Desiree Barnes said she approached the group Saturday night in the East Village after they began looting the stores below her apartment.

Many of the rioters and looters that were in Detroit... weren't from there.. hell many of them weren't from the surrounding suburbs either. It took years for Detroit to start to recover from the riots that happened in the 60s. For decades that city was forgotten and taken advantage of. they have slowly been recovering for the last 20 years but it has been a slow process... the people there don't want that to happen again. Most of them weren't even born when that happened but have suffered for years. And then outsiders come in and try to create havoc and chaos on them again.

This ladies and gentlemen is how it looks like to be filled with righteous anger. Despite her anger and despair at what looters and vandals did to her community, she didn't strike back with violence. She sought to educate instead with her words.
Protest for change. Organize rallies, petitions. Put up signs, take out ads in papers or tv or radio. Put up posts on social media that go viral. Do all these things or be creative and do other things.
*DON'T* vandalize public or private properties. Don't resort to arson or destruction of property, don't incite violence or be violent yourselves. And don't loot! Those of you who do this only set back the all the hours, days, years or decades of hard work that people put in to start changes.

I don’t think that every person who is damaging property is being hired but it’s definitely a very unsettling thought.
I feel really bad for the people being affected by all of this and it IS getting ridiculous but sometimes it’s actions like this that actually makes a difference
Violence shouldn’t be condoned but this is the extent many people have been driven to. Personally I don’t feel that many of the people who are acting this way are in their right mind. Many are upset and simply acting irrationally. Some are just being driven by the crowd and follow what everyone else is doing 😣

@@imlost3708 -Thank you for your thoughts and opinion. I do however believe that inciting or resorting to violence is a choice. No matter how dire the situation, you chose whether you will raise your fist in anger or your hand to help.
I also believe that there are those who are choosing to use the current situation to mask illegal activities (looting, destruction, vandalism). Whether they are doing it for personal satisfaction/gain or whether they are doing it to undermine and discredit those who are peacefully gathering to protest remains to be seen. Either way, they are making a bad situation awful.

@Mark Johhson - Mr Johnson, while resorting to violence may lead to faster results in the short term, it does however hurt the cause (equal treatment of the police for all/ equality in general) in the long term.
You cannot hold peace and safety as hostage to impact meaningful change. You may think that targeting big businesses are fine since they can afford it, but I would like to remind you that regular folks work in those places and if the companies choose to move their businesses out of the area, it is the community that suffers and not the company.
