Hey fellas apologies for a reupload but this video was originally uploaded before my account was confirmed. It wasnt being shown besides people checking my channel page. Apologies if you saw it already
It’s funny this video popped up because I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I got into the series only last year when one of my friends who I never thought would play one of those games started Bloodborne and absolutely loved it. Soon enough, everyone in my friend group was playing it and we loved it. However, there was one of us who refused to play it. He just couldn’t stand the games. Then on a whim right after Christmas, he bought Elden Ring and beat it within 4 days. He platinumed it a couple of days ago. This all led me to ask the same question you did and honestly my answer is either Bloodborne or Elden Ring.
I wanna say Sekiro but it's probably Elden Ring. Sekiro was my first Soulsborne but it might be too unforgiving for most people. I used powerpyx and still struggled a lot on the first run. On the other hand, nothing has ever felt more challenging since. ER has more flavours, so it's bound to attract a larger crowd. The options to make things easier for yourself are basically endless too. So there is no point in adding DeS to the conversation, the low difficulty bar being the only reason to recommend it to a beginner. I also think there is too much in DeS that would make people give up on the genre completely, it might actually be the worst choice to recommend.
@@SeanySalamiYT Too many bosses that are more annoying than Bed of Chaos, basically. But for different reasons. Some bosses are even invincible until you figure out the gimmick, I can see newcomers lose their patience needlessly. Since no other Soulsborne is like that.
I cant understand why Bloodborne is seen as an bad looking game. Wtf dude? The engine may be not the best, sure, but the amount of detail is just breathtaking.
@@SeanySalamiYT The atmosphere, the details, the textures - in every corner you can see the amount of love Fromsoft put into this game. It still looks beautiful today, and there are tons of "modern" current games that look like shit in comparison to bloodborne. Sure it aged a bit, but more like fine wine. "lol"
@@morfkapunkt6015 i completely agree with you, the level of detail in all FromSoftware games are astounding but bloodborne in particular adopts a moody truly dystopian world that entices you as the player to continue your exploration through the world with a sense of intriguing disgust, the combat system differs from the other games creating a unique experience while introducing new challenges that accompany it. Definitely a top 2 FromSoftware in my opinion.
That's like saying Resident Evil 4 on GameCube still looks totally brand new. We get it kid, you love the game so you're here to defend its honor while wearing the darkest nostalgia glasses you could find
@@jarlwhiterun7478 You don't get it. I never said that it's modern today, and I also admitted that it aged indeed, so your comparison lacks a bit of sense ;) It just think that the term "bad looking" is completely inapropriate. If you want a better example of this meaning, look at current games like the newest World of Warcraft addons. The engine is old a.f. and the World looks boring and uninspired. Or just take a look in the mirror ;DD
If you haven't played Demons Souls, but don't have a PS5 or PS3, I can't recommend enough playing it on PC using an emulator. It runs perfectly and much better than Bloodborne on the PS4 for example. Its an amazing game.
Elden Ring would be a great place to start because you have so many tools at your disposal. As you said, it's the most accessible, and to me, it's the least clunky feeling game out of the series. Then i recommend playing the dark souls series chronologically, if you can handle the change of pace in DS. ADP in DS2 didn't really bother me but it's stupid that the default roll i frames are 5 (smelter demon in iron keep kept cooking me because i didn't have enough i frames). Lastly i would play Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and then Sekiro
Man, got my wife, who does not play video games, to agree to play DS1. Wanted to start her there just because it's slower and, well, nostalgia. She has no idea how to walk and use the camera, and somehow got through the Asylum in an hour. Took her 6 or 7 tries to beat the demon!! She Magoo'd her way through it and I can't wait to see where we go next!
@@SeanySalamiYT Truly. Only took 8 years of learning to garden! But, yeah she is a fan for the most part. Has watched me play several of them. I just know her brain is the same kind of damaged as mine. She'll enjoy the pain!
I went elden ring, bloodborne, demon souls, dark souls, dark souls 3, and finally dark souls 2. I have to say, when i got to ds2 i was glad i started where i did and wished I played ds3 sooner.
I started with DS1 and I don’t regret it. I almost started with 2… But I’ve skipped it haha. I’m playing 3 and tbh I prefer 1. Idk something about dark souls 1. It has a certain charm and everyone agrees there is nothing quite like starting dark souls 1 for the first tome
I think Bloodborne has great graphics. And there are even some things I’d argue actually look better in Bloodborne over DS3 (like cloth physics on the player character and the blood splattering effects when hitting enemies). It’s just the frame rate that bothers people.
My souls journey: picked up ds3 in anticipation for er, got stuck on the abyss watchers and quit. Elden ring then came out and after I beat it I went back to ds3 started a new character and beat the game in like 8 hours. Long story short I found elden ring to be the hardest of the series (x sekiro) by far and still think that its the best for new players.
I wouldn't say Elden Ring's the easiest to get into the series with, but i would say its the easiest. Only because for like 90% of the main game you either have the option of learning the fight like a normal souls game.... or overleveling to so everything dies in like 2 seconds. So it doesnt do much to even teach it's own game, let alone for the series. Thats just my opinion though, it is accesible in a lot of other ways just think it is not very good for teaching players how to play the actual game, just get around the problem. I think a lot of the burden of teaching is on the player to choose if they want to learn or not.
I don't know what you mean with the dodging in DS1 being unreliable. I am playing this for almost 800 h and the dodging is realy fine at least when you have fastroll but yes on middle roll its a little hard but also managable. Played also DS2 and DS3. DS2 has a real dodging problem with this gamemechanic which depends on ADP and agility. In DS2 I felt that I had a lot less tolerance when dodging, needed to time it very accurate.
I think you focused a bit too much on the combat, I'd also consider the world design of each game - DS1 has a non-linear, interconnected world, DS3's world is pretty much a bunch of disconnected straight lines, and ER's world is a whole damn continent. If you're a fan of Metroidvanias, you might lean towards DS1, while if you're just looking for combat DS3 would be your best bet.
I think the combats difficulty is what turns people off of the games initially so that's why I focused on that. There's defintely other things to consider though for sure
DS1 first half is a great Metroidvania style world. After that it's total garbage. DS3 has a few branching paths and sequence breaks, and the different areas have great level design by themselves.
I would say deff ER for best beginner friendly. After that ds3, demon souls, ds1, ds2, bb, and finally Sekiro (which is my personal top pick for WORST Fromsoft game for beginners. As we all know though, once it clicks you are good to go and will shred everything).

Bloodborne last? Interesting why is that? Just curious
Start at Elden Ring, then DS3 if you think you'll get into the games. Then the original and then skip the rest! Until they remaster Bloodbourne
