Great video, and enjoy the content! I totally agree with the branding question upfront. A lot of clients just assume this is a web designer's job. The main difference between your flow and mine is that I now charge for proposals. Game-changer!
I’m late or maybe just in time. I needed this badly, I just had someone ask for my graphic design services but I haven’t yet added website design to my skill set ❤
Hi, Megan! Loooove your content! I just landed my first website design client inquiry and I was wondering, do you have an example of what you put in your web design questionnaire? I'm not really sure where to start
This is so cool! Thanks Megan. One question - when you create 2 or 3 versions of design for landing page, do you also create moodboards for the client so they could pick the mood they want, or, do you let them choose design keywords that represent the mood they want? Which way do you think is more effective if you have tried both? Thanks for the amazing video!
what program are you using to design the website (before wordpress) and what dimensions do you typically make the canvas? i know you mentioned Adobe XD, i was just hoping for a little more information. i'm a recent college graduate and your videos have been so helpful to me, thank you so much!!
Hi Megan, i have a question, you said that you can give them some proposal in two days. For exemple, if you had to design the microsoft website, how many time would you take ? is it something that can be done in two days? I am bigenner, i am asking cause i was trying to build the design of microsoft website on figma to get used to this CMS. And it take me so so much time jsut for the home page (without animation ). And when you re designing an E commerce website, is it really take you two days ? You have to do different template for each customers right, did you give the same template for different client one time (with just different logo and color) or you really try to avoid that?
I love your video very explanatory. I want to start website design for customers. I have experience and I build an eCommerce website already. I want to find out the pricing.
Hi Megan, how do you make note of all the things they mention during the discovery call? Do you take notes by hand or on your computer? I wonder how to do it so to not get distracted or seem like not paying attention to what they are saying.
Hi Megan, Great video! I enjoyed it. I have a quick question about how you launch the client’s website? Do you build it under your account, then transfer it over? What is the process involved in that? Regards, Ash
You did not mention anything about keyword researchs and SEO configuration, what I believe is also fundamental. Could you share how you deal with this part of a project once I suppose it belongs to some of the steps you so nicely presented in your ebook?
Whew 😅.. I love emojis as well.. ❤️😊 thanks Megan for sharing your 10 step web design process.. I really learned a lot about how you do business.. keep up the great work Megan.. I like that you mentioned having the client pay with a deposit at the beginning before you start designing and I like also that you do a work thru video of your design decisions.. cheers 🥂 hip hip hooray 🎉🙌🥳
Hi Megan, such great content! Thanks for sharing this. I noticed that you didn't mention UX design. Do you work with a separate UX designer, or do some short preliminary research before you design? Wondering how I can use hard data to back my design decisions.
Hi Megan. I loved the video, it's very helpful to see how other designers run their businesses. Can I ask what type of questions do you ask you client when asking them do give you feedback on design?
Thank you so much! Yes I ask things like, “are there any format changes you would like to see?” “How do you feel about the color palette choices?” “Would you like to see different imagery?” Things like that! I always like to tell them this is when I want to hear all thoughts and feelings about it because it’s easier to edit now than later.
@@MeganWeeks Hi Megan! Thank you for your response and for sharing those helpful questions. I appreciate it! I was wondering, do you have any videos that go over the branding and web design process step by step? I think it would be really helpful to see how you approach these processes to make my own process as smooth as possible. Also, do you happen to have any templates for sale that includes your processes and questionnaires for web design and branding? That would be a great resource to have!
Hello! Love so much the information! Thank you! I have a question, for how long take doing a website? I know that depends a lot of things but maybe an estimate 😊
Hi Megan! Thank you so much for this video! Question: What questions do you ask to find out exactly what pages they need besides the typical (Home, About, Services/Products/Packages, Contact?) Thanks so much for all you do! Love your videos
Do you have web design course (not with web development)? I am interested to join your course, however, I see it also includes content on developing websites with Divi, I never use that Theme, so I am asking whether you offer design course with sole web design
I include the rates in my Web design package and I pay them directly. That way my clients aren’t having to pay separate people. My web developer lives in India so his rates are more affordable for me.
But do you charge your clients for the copywriter who needs to get paid? Content us the hardest... my clients usually write it themselves but it often takes ages. I like to design off the copy so the client isn't restricted in any way and in my opinion the design should be designed around the copy, not the other way round - as the content is what's most important. Thinking about a solution... maybe I offer them to design with notes so I know what copy needs to be in there and it helps them to finish the copy when having a design structure.
Because I like to make sure the user experience and the flow of the site is perfect before making it functional. Editing the site mockup is much easier than editing links, buttons, sections, etc directly on the site.
10-12 weeks, how much would you charge for something like that? I ask this because I'm having a hard time determining a price for my clients. Do you have a set rate per hour and base it off of that? Any advice would be great, loving the channel. Subbed!.
hi! sorry for the delay. the pricing depends on a lot of things. the industry, the pages, what type of site, etc. typically I range my website pricing between $4500 - $6000.
@@MeganWeeks Thank you for this answer! I love love love your videos but currently doing similar to what you're doing for $500 total because I'm re-starting my portfolio and I've had a hard time trying to find information on how I should price it once I start doing non-portfolio designs. ❤
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing the helpful content. I was wondering when you start designing your clients website, do you just put Lorem Ipsum text on it as a place holder or do you ask your client to write up the copy for each page and then have your copy writer rework it after?
My only concern with the pricing question - you haven’t even had the chance to educate them on the value of what you do - maybe they don’t realize all they get for what you offer, or the potential ROI value to them. ♥️
Very good point!! Maybe adding in a note about what’s included in your packages so they understand the value? I think that’s a solid point. I found I was spending time on discovery calls and would spend the whole call getting to know them/ telling them my process, but then as soon as they heard pricing it wouldn’t work so it wasn’t super time efficient for me and them… You definitely have me thinking of how to approach it differently though. Thanks for the insight!
I’m so glad it helped! I have a coach that is constantly telling me to stay OUT of my clients wallets but it’s SOOOO hard! I usually try to give 3 options - one that almost anyone could afford (but is VERY basic), one middle that is kind of my sweet spot - and one that is ALLLLL the bells and whistles. 9 times out of 10 they go for the middle 🎉 One thing I’m really excited to implement is using adobe xd- I never would have thought to use it since I tend to customize themes using blocks, but I realized how easy it was for me to translate a site from XD to the page builder PLUS being able to see the site all at once is exciting! I also had NO clue about task boards - I’ve learned so much from you!!! ♥️
Just chiming in here because I agree with both of you! Spending time getting to know the potential client, writing a proposal and then they aren’t willing to invest or simply don’t have the budget takes up a lot of time. BUT finding a solution that works with both the designer and client is key!
I love how you have a client portal with the right questions and process. Honestly love your process
Her client really felt stress free all the time, what else a designer wants, while having busy routine at work #devtalks 😢
Ok but why did the intro make me shed a tear! You are so lovely to talk about succeeding together

No they do not need to have an Adobe XD account to leave notes :)

so how much do you charge from web design to fully developped website?
What tools do you use to make a client portal ?
How did you build a client portal?
Do you use their wordpress account and therefore their subcription features to build the site?
WordPress does not charge any fees.
after developmemt do you do technical SEO before delivery.?
I do offer that as part of my package yes and my copywriter includes this in her delivery! So meta titles, descriptions, etc.
What about your clients photos?
What if the client doesn't provide the required feedback on time?
