    We are all fans but the team salary is too high. Alonso is not worth more than 20 million a year at current level of performance. 22.5 million per year is absolute maximum value even if he turns it around as he doesn't hit for average.
    Pete can't run the bases like an average major leaguer. He is Ok at first but not exceptional. This could be his only off year but if he continues to slide, the Mets will have to eat another large contract. Tough call.

    Its not that Pete Alonso is a bum player and awful. Its that he isn't necessarily a keystone player. Does he make the team better? Yes. Can the team get better trading him? Yes.
    Nownif no one is offering something worthwhile for him, of course keep him! But can't ignore if a team decides to go all in and give up their 2nd and 3rd prospect for Pete.

      Why...?? This METS team is going to make the Wild Card and Pete is a big key to the "win now and challenge for a World Series this year" mantra. No way they are giving him up for a "prospect" - they're in a playoff race and he is a big bat + he is HIGHLY motivated to produce good #s over these last 66 games and through any playoffs because this will be the last big $$$ contract of his career and what he does the rest of the way THIS YEAR is worth tens-of-millions of $$$s to him and Boras

    Keep Pete. He’s a true blue Met! For years he played with no protection in the lineup. Personally, I feel that he’s putting too much pressure on himself to “be the man”! If you are planning on keeping him then let him know and hopefully he’ll relax and play the way he has for years. He really seems uptight over his contract situation. I think that the Mets have more value trading McNeil, as much as I would hate that.

    I'm thinking about Pete's history with the Mets and his side kick Jeff right along with him, and both contributed to this team's success so many times over, and at times when no one else on the team was. It is never in the stars all the time, sometimes we all have to come back down to earth and see that this guy is having 1 not so great season, out of how many? And if we aren't with him and willing to wait it out, and give Pete along with Jeff too the patience they both deserve, that is on us, not them.
    Some fans might be turning on him to prepare mentally for the chance he is traded, and perhaps soften the blow of such news.

    • @dougmarinosci370

  • @anthonyzheng7274
    @anthonyzheng7274 2 місяці тому

    I used to think Pete should go, but tbh he brings more value than his numbers suggest. Average defense playing 1B every day, extended cold streaks with short bursts of upside. Stable club house figure and his presence alone puts stress on opposing pitcher at the 4th spot in the lineup whether he produces or not. I'd say as long as the Mets retain one of the WC leads, keep him for 2024. Resigning him is a different story, let him sign elsewhere in 2025 and move Vientos to 1B next season.

    Pete is a 100+ RBI guy,& most HR MLB from his 2019 start, just not flashy-so what. Pete hit more RBI than Judge in his record HR Yr. 29 yr power hitter until 35yrs(pay him 5 yrs). He's off at the moment and has slumped before (after HR derby win) as did Judge earlier this year. He should get a big contract. Bad Yr tracking for 100 RBI & 40hr. list starts getting shorter as to who else makes a difference and gets paid huge $. Lindor and Nimmo are hot, but neither have carried the team, ever.

Even if Pete only hits 30 homers per year for those six he will reset the all time Met home run record into the 400 plus range. I realize many fans don't value defense as much as offense, but if I could find away to create a package deal that moves Pete Alonso to San Francisco for Matt Chapman (with Matt dropping his opt out cluase after a year), I would do that deal. You can move Vientos to 1B. Mets have many good infield prospects coming up. Chapman is greatest defensive 3B on the planet. It would be the coming of the greatest defensive 3B to play for EITHER New York Team since Craig Nettles.
