- Has your rear subframe failed due to corrosion rust on your C-Class W204 Mercedes ? well the issue could be far more serious than you think and the repair bill could run into thousands!
Just a heads up in this video I explain how Mercedes fixed mine for Free!
BenzWorld Forum topic thread on the topic "W204 rear subframes deterioration" www.benzworld....
Hi, I'm glad I came across your video. This morning I went in for an alignment and I found out that part of the rear subframe sheared off and a control arm was freely hanging from the wheel! Had I not gone in for an alignment I wouldn't have known about it as it was never and issue and never noticed excessive corrosion on the subframe during the MOT. To make matters worse this must have put unimaginable amounts of stress on all other suspension components but I'm happy to be alive to tell. I have called the local dealership and they will inspect it and then contact headquarters. The problem is a serious one and I'm without a car now!
Sorry to hear your now without a car however I am glad to hear nothing far worst had happened, looking on a positive front you now have the garage to sort the mess out which should be fr Free!... all that very best and thanks....mrix
Thank you! I have called them and they will look at it free of charge on Monday the 15th.
I'm sure they will keep the car as it will be deemed unsafe until fixed. I'll let you know afterwards on what the outcome is.
@@mrix Update.
MB has agreed to change the subframe free of charge. Now waiting for the parts. I forgot to ask if this one is the same as the original or an updated one, silly me 😅 I guess I was too happy when I heard the good news. 😆
I live in the US and had the same problem with my 2012 C300. After several long calls with MBUSA, they refused to pay for it and not only refused to pay for it, they denied that it was a prevalent issue with these cars, which we all know that it is very common.
I had it replaced by a certified technician hoping MBUSA does the right thing and recalls this faulty subframe and I can get reimbursed. I reported the issue to the NHTSA! You should all do the same.
Update 2/22/23…The service center that repaired my car received a letter from MBUSA stating that they will be reimbursing owners for the replacement of the subframe. His letter stated that the owners of the car would be receiving a letter from MBUSA explaining how to be reimbursed. I have yet to see a letter from MBUSA but will post if/when I receive it.
Fingers crossed that eventually you are reimbursed sooner than hopefully later as you should not of had to pay....mrix
Same situation here in the US, rotted subframe but MBUSA will not repair or reimburse.
There's an extended warranty on this. If they don't pay, you can sue them for breach of contract/warranty
I booked by C250 in for a Airbag recall at Marshalls in Blackpool, they were FANTASTIC they called me told me the issue that it was rotten and now booked in next week with no charge, only said if it needs extras like exhaust clamps ect I will have to pay for that but WELL HAPPY
Fantastic it looks like the issue is being resolved more and more but only if its brought to their attention....mrix
I'd report it to DVSA as its a serious safety defect:
www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect
They did my w212. 😊 And they still make a good profit with the control arms.
I guess if you require the control arms replacing then yes you will have to fork out, myself and most from what I can establish never required the control arms replacing, I am assuming you had to ?... mrix
Most useful....I have this problem. My C Class has been in the workshop now for a month waiting for a replacement subframe to be delivered.
I would think that with this problem being so prevalent that they would have a few in stock?
Hi Brian, so are you also getting it replaced for Free ? as you say as the problem does appear prevalent and you would of thought they would of had them in stock.
I have a 62 plate E220 and yesterday while driving I could hear some noise and on breaking I could sense car go zigzag so I took it to mechanic today and he said the rear subframe is damaged due to corrosion.
Can you pls let me know how do I go ahead from here? Which template should I fill etc. to get this sorted from MB?
Hello you should no longer have to worry about a template and simply ask for it to be replaced for Free... Mercedes now have replaced so many for Free including mine its now their obligation to replace yours... you would need to go to a official Mercedes garage / dealership.... all the very best having your replaced.....mrix
Mine is going in tomorrow- it snapped, which was scary because I drive up and down the motorway everyday
Now that is the most extreme thing I have heard to date... I dont think there should be any issue of replacing for Free in that situation... all the best ...mrix
@@mrix tbh I kept hearing a knocking noise when I went over a bump- thought of it my shocks- took it to my mechanic- nooooo it’s the subframe- you can’t drive it!!!! Tow truck booked to take it to Mercedes tomorrow
The recall for the rotting sub frame atm is USA only. When MB was forced to issue a recall to fix the rear tail-gate light clusters due to it being a fire hazard in 2014 the recall was a US only. These issues impact every single W204/S204 ever made. If its a recall in the USA due to being a critical hazard due to poor QC/design choices made by MB, then MB should do the decent thing and recall and repair all S204/W204s worldwide for free. If not, as MB owners we need to force them into issuing a recall.
Thanks for the additional information, much appreciated....mrix
@@mrix No probs.. seriously appreciate that you did this video. I think we as MB owners need to report these faults to the DVSA as MB in Europe is going to try and avoid fixing this. Everyone that has a W204/S204 in the UK needs to submitt a defect report to the DVSA:
www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect
That tail light recall was NA only and MB got away with it scot free. Unfortunately for me, my S204 had the driver side tail light cluster completely fail (the connector had fused to the light cluster) and the passenger side was also on the way out. Car was a firehazard and I had to get that fixed asap. Luckily parts from MB are cheap. I'm reporting the tailgate issue to the DVSA as that needs to be a recall too.

Hi mrix, were you the first owner of the car? I'm looking into importing a particular w204 into my country and I wonder if this subframe replacement will apply in case I'd need it
Hello no I was not the first owner so you should be ok.... all the very best..... mrix
Have you got the draft letter please so I can challenge Mercedes for my C Class W204😊
Hello please read the video description as its not really my personal draft letter to give out, I have left links to the forum where I got mine, all the very best of luck getting a Free fix...mrix
I have a 2014 C300, 40k miles, not rusted yet on mine but another friend, 60k on a 2013 E350 rear sub-frame just broke today. I would change part myself, did front subframe on a ford escape... Ebay has them for $235, same part across a lot of years and models... but may pay more for OEM branded one for a new part# where they corrected this problem.
A couple of people have mentioned that its now being done under a extended warranty so I would get your friend to look into it, all the best .....mrix
Yes absolutely yesterday I dropped my 2015 e350 rear subframe corroded and almost had an accident here in New York it’s covered under extended warranty they will replace it but my question is the new subframe isn’t going to have the same issue? Few years from now?
That did also cross my mind but we are likely talking another 5 to 10 years before any issues start arising again especially if they do actually use the same sub-frame used originally, mine lasted 9 years and if it lasted another 9 personally I have no issues ...... mrix
Hi, do you have a copy of this email template? I would really appreciate it if you can help as my subframe has corroded
Hello, I honestly dont think you require the email template now, simply take your car to a official Mercedes dealer and they should now simply honor the request, you could go down the email template route but personally I do not have it, I have a link in the description of this video which takes you to the forum where the member Dave will send you a template if you contact him.... all the very best with yours being repaired.... mrix
So do you think I should rock on up to Mercedes with my 2002 w203 and get it inspected? Mega rust in the doors and arches too..🤣🙄
I have my sub frame problem and has failed MOT..
What do I do??
can I contact Mercedes??
Hello if you take a look at the description of this video if will give a link to the forum I spoke about and if you ask Dave I am sure he will send out the email template to send to Mercedes... all the very best of luck.....mrix
As your's has failed the MOT , report it the failure to the DVSA as its a serious safety defect and is a recall in the USA:
www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect
Any chance I could get the template off you?
Hi sorry for the late reply, I never got notified... I cannot send you it personally as its not mine but if you look at the description of this video it gives a link to the forum and topic whereby if you contact Dave he will send you it, however as far as I know they are now Mercedes are now honoring the repair so its not really required anymore, I think if you simply contacted your local Mercedes all should be fine with a Free repair.... all the best mrix
@@mrix Thanks for the reply. I will give it a go.
how long time u wait to arrive new subframe??
Hello it was not really about receiving the sub-frame as that went directly to the the Mercedes dealer but more about the time period for the appointment for Mercedes to fit it and that if I recall correctly was about a month... mrix
Hey mrix any update from m benz on this you getting any results ??
All very Positive - ua-cam.com/video/Nejin-y9nlo/v-deo.html
Same for me just paid £2800 and found this thread. Going to take it to watchdog! This story needs to be told!
Hi I have same problem. I already booked with Mercedes to have a look at it. Do I have to contact David still? Or go a head check it with Mercedes straight a way.
Because I can't see any link to email David and how to contact him.
Will be nice of you if can help me out with this..
Many thanks
Hi the only reason to contact Dave is for him to help with advise and send you his email template, he has worded it very well so in pretty much most cases it has worked etc.
If you had already contacted them hopefully your email has been worded correctly and you should also get positive results.
All the best of luck
mrix
@@mrix thanks mrix for your reply I have actually e class quite well maintained and I love it do you think they dale with Same is e class as yours.? Can you send me please David email or link just incase..
Will be grateful
Thanks for your useful video
@@mrix they agreed to do mine free of cost as well.
Thank you so much
This needs to be a #SAFETY related #ClassAction #Lawsuit with #Mercedes for the #W204 chassis
Most definitely and maybe will at some point.... mrix
My 2011 C300 Mercedes was too dangerous to drive when it was 71,000 miles, and had completed 6 routine services. I wondered while my car was in the service why there wasn’t any mechanic or service advisor informing me about the rust problems until the brake lines and sub frame were rusted out and close to failure. During the period of my ownership, my car had several mechanical issues and was towed several times. You wouldn't expect that a prestige’s car like Mercedes would have to go in and out of the service so often, especially since I always park my car in the garage and never get submerged in water. The last advice they gave me was sell it to the junkyard or commit insurance fraud. They told me that there wasn’t any customer service for me to complain about, instead they persuaded me to buy another Mercedes-Benzes!
Hi Wendy, I have had to do a fair amount of work on my car and have the garage fix other jobs and if I am to be honest I am also disappointed these cars are not more reliable, over the years the name Mercedes always meant to me as reliability but not anymore.
@@mrix They've had a substantial drop in QC .. look at the timing chain issue with the switch to a single timing chain that a lot of the 203/204/205's suffer from.
I took my w204 for mot and service subframe was rotting and replaced for free
Yes it does now appear to be standard procedure due to all the efforts that has been put in by people especially by Dave over at the Benz forum.
Everyone please check with your local dealership. It is now a recall for these rear sub frames and the dealership will replace for free.
Hi A.G, where are you getting the information from ? have you found something official stating that is the case from Mercedes themselves ? thanks mrix
@@mrix yea I received the letter in the mail stating to bring the car in to the local MB dealership for inspection. The safety recall has been extended for 20 years unlimited miles. for the 2008-2015 C Class sedan & coup and several other models.
Is this for real? My local indie garage has just informed me my rear sub has corroded through! Been onto local dealership but the lady in Bookings didn't seem to know about this as a common problem. Waiting for someone to call me back though. Fingers crossed.
That`s Brilliant News, thanks for letting us know......mrix
It is a fact, I received the letter. Great news!!
Not a happy bunny we have been pushed from pillar to post to get the subframe done as corroding it's had the mechanic do the video check they said they would order the part that was 8weeks ago and customer services are now saying that they don't have to do it under warranty so continuing to fight this see what happens !
They are calling it a good will gesture and for you its not right to allow countless others to have it done for Free and not for you!
Just try to keep calm and be as polite as you possibly can.... all the best of luck and please let us know what the eventual outcome was.... thanks mrix
A guy in the messaging is saying its now a official recall.... mrix
Report it to DVSA as its a serious safety defect and is a recall in the USA:
www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/report-a-serious-safety-defect
Quick way to do it is book it in for a rear subframe inspection and they will see it needs changing and they contact Mercedes in Germany for authorisation to carry out the work and it will be free
Yes it should be a far easier and quicker process now..... mrix
Hi thanks for the video my Mercedes has just had this happen so dangerous as I’ve had my two young daughters in the car and this wasn’t picked up on mot or services. How long did they take fixing yours ? And where can I find template letter :)
Hello if you check out the description of the video it will have links to the on-going forum discussion on this topic, a member there called Dave will email you a template... all the very best of luck getting yours replaced, when they finally received the subframe it took 2 days for mine to be fitted.... mrix
This just happened to mine their other day. 2010 C300 sport sedan 97K. Taking it to the dealer. I received no letter of any recall about this.
As far as I know there is no official recall notice presently but hopefully taking it to the dealer they will rectify your sub-frame for you! best of luck.. mrix
im in the same position. 2011 C Class C220 Blue Efficiency AMG Sport Plus. Subframe is completely rotted. Got it booked into dealer who wanted £160 to diagnose the issue... If mercedes approve the repair I won't have to pay the diagnosis. Really hope I can get it repalced for free/good willd or else I will be scrapping car.
All the very best of luck with your Free replacement, many have had theirs replaced so I would imagine it would be difficult now for any dealers to refuse ? however you should not have to pay for the diagnosis..... mrix
Thanks for your help and uploading this video. Mercdes called today and confirmed they'll replace the subframe as good will/30 year anti-corrosion warranty. They mentioned if the rear suspension arms are corroded, they may need replace, and it's not covered under warranty. Max £700 if both need replaced. They won't know until they remove rotted subframe @@mrix
Thanks for video. I have found the forum and will contact Dave
Glad to of helped, all the best of luck to you and getting the subframe repaired... Free
Can you send me the template which you used?
Hello I would like to but I don't think its my place to send someone else's work, if you join the forum I have linked in the description you can ask Dave yourself within the topic like I and others have done, all the very best of luck to you, I have mine booked in for this Wednesday.... mrix
