I recently cleaned out my closet and tried on everything, even shoes. I was surprised how many high heels I was able to declutter because they hurt my feet now that I'm getting older. I couldn't walk in them anymore even if I wanted to. I realized I was keeping too much stuff because I assumed it still fit or assumed it was comfortable and actually trying it on showed me otherwise.
That’s awesome and so true! When I finally tried on everything I realized the same thing! I was keeping so many things “just because” or “just incase”
I too have never been a blazer person and I never will be!! But I know my sense of style and I just find that so many must have capsule wardrobe lists just don't apply to me. "Classic" pieces like leather jacket, black blazer, blue jeans, white button down shirt, little black dress, knee high boots - I own none of these and I don't want them!
That’s awesome 👏
Great advice! I find that separating out my very favorites first helps me to declutter most any area of my home quickly. And, yes! The blazer pressure 😂 I'm not a blazer person either, yet I've wasted tons of time searching for just the perfect one only to realize that I'm just a cardigan girl 😂
Omg I finally found someone that understands my blazer dilemma hahaha thanks so much for watching 😍
Blazers 😮 I did the same thing, I spent loads of time and money on blazers because my friends were wearing them and influencers were suggesting them for “the ultimate capsule wardrobe” I never reach for them. Give me a cardigan any day 😊
Same!
Cardigans are my favourite article of clothing and I could never understand when people stored their summer shirts away because I need them to wear with my cardigans!
When I was a girl in the 60s my drawers were empty or not nearly full and I could push my hanging clothes into 10 inches thick. And my family was upper middle class-ish! There were hardly any stores. I remember my first trip to a mall. It was crazy! Never saw so many clothes. I have waaaay too many now. Working on it. Thanks for the good ideas.
😊 Nothing beats trying on an item to know whether it fits, flatters, and feels comfortable. Wearing it all day is the true test though. I just make myself wear something different each time I get dressed (that's appropriate for the weather, of course) and the winners and losers reveal themselves quite clearly!
Great idea! and so true! The winners become very easy to see 😍
I love the last tip - to think about if I will wear the item at least 30 times. Haven´t heard that before - and it´s good! 😊
Thank you! It helps me slow down buying! 🙌😍 Thanks for watching friend!
It´s really great advice - did you come up with it yourself?🤩@@minimalease
No, I’m sure I heard it somewhere or read it haha this is what happens when you start to get older and you watch and read a lot of minimalist content 🤣
I recently tried the “ten item” wardrobe. It’s very eye opening. One thing I started doing instead of pulling things from my timeout bin, is to mark every time I think about wanting the item instead of getting it out. I also put wish list items on a list and mark if I would have pulled from a wish list item. I think this will really clarify if an item is really worth me keeping or buying, but also prevent me from impulse buying.
Omg I love that idea! Writing down and marking when u think about the item is genius 👏❤️ thanks for sharing!
Using the strategy where you turn all the hangers in your closet backwards & only turn them around if you wear an item. I was very surprised how many items I repeatedly overlooked all season, in favour of a smaller group of favourites I wore often.
Yes! I love that idea for hangers! Thanks for watching friend!
❤❤❤I’m definitely not a blazer person either. I much prefer a comfy cardigan. I’ve decluttered 8 bags so far thanks to you😊 I still have a ways to go, but I’m really happy with my progress.
That’s amazing 👏❤️❤️
I have been downsizing for several years now. I am nowhere close to a capsule wardrobe like you, but I improve every year, as I declutter with each seasonal changeover. I do a spring/summer to fall/winter switch. I evaluate every piece going in. I hang the hangers backwards and forwards when I wear them. Then I either force myself to wear the items not turned at the end of the season, or at a minimum, try those items on. I ask myself several questions: Does the item fit? Does it reflect my current style? Do I have something to wear it with? Do I still love it? If I love it, but I have nothing to wear it with, I add a coordinate to my wish list, which I intentionally shop for. The other items go in the donate or sell pile. I also count the number of items in each category. Those numbers are still way to high, so, I have set goal numbers, but, I haven't yet reached the goal in many categories. I whittle the numbers down each year. Maybe one day I will get there. Until then, I continue to watch and be inspired by channels like yours. TY!
That's awesome! It sounds like you have a good system and great ideas!! Thanks for sharing 😍
I know NO ONE who wears a blazer where I live in a Mpls suburb. And never have. Ive tried them because everyone says they are a basic, but dont think I look good in them , felt awkward in them and thus did not wear them. For years the button up shirt was the same thing but then I figured out it was the "structured" button up shirt I didnt like i.e. with darts and front seaming. A loose unstructured shirt in a shorter length I love ! I agree, find what YOU like and feel comfortable in NOT what others say you SHOULD have. And buy and wear clothes that fit the lifestyle you have right now not your fantasy life.
Thanks so much for sharing!! I wasted so much money trying different blazers over the years! They are just not me and probably never will be! I'm much too laidback and causal to feel comfortable in one even the sweater blazers hahah Thanks so much for sharing!❤️❤️
Such a true video! I remember my mother dragging me to the stores for clothes and I hated it. Now as a 40 year old adult, I still despise shopping, but I will do second hand when “new” items are needed.
What I do is sell, or consign to sell, what doesn’t fit and use the cash to purchase gently used, good quality items. I usually will make more money and typically have a lot of money leftover☺️.
Side note….i love your bed! Thats next on my list is a wooden bed to replace our upholstered one. Can you tell me the maker/where you found it?
Aww thank u so much! My husband actually made the bed! I’ll let him know you like it 😍
I’m still curating my capsule wardrobe. I’m finding it takes time to get it to where I want. Some pieces I held onto when I shopped my wardrobe aren’t working so I’m in the midst of replacing those. These tips are very helpful.
That’s awesome! It’s great to be aware of what you are missing in your wardrobe or things that aren’t working! Thanks for sharing ❤️❤️
😊 I have 5 closets- just for me! Most are “when I worked” dressier outfits. Excited to start this declutter. Most I’ve had for years & I can still wear. This will be a tough one.
It will be so worth it ❤️❤️ good luck friend!
🙂 this is the first year I’m going to do an official capsule wardrobe!
Whoohoo! Good luck friend!
I found a lot of my light wood hangers at the thrift store 🥰
That's awesome!!
Would you be able to do a declutter on accessories like handbags?
Sure I can def do a video on my bags and accessories ❤️
😊

What lipstick are you wearing?
❤ as always
Aww thanks so much friend!

What has helped you declutter your clothes??
Declutter uncomfortable clothes like polyester fabric, down to more sustainable ones like organic cotton, wool and silk..
I am not a blazer girl either. I think other women look so amazing in them, but when I wear them, I feel stiff and uncomfortable-- even if the blazer is comfy-- my soul feels stiff and uncomfortable. 😂
So true! I have to always remind myself just because I like it on someone else doesn't mean I will like it on me 🙌❤️
Just stop buying ❤
Yesss 😍
