I imagine the quality of the recordings that these top mixers receive from top studios, top engineers and top musicians, might give them quite an advantage in making a top mix.

    • @eilzaanpro1223

Of course. But for them to reach the point where they get to mix quality recording, first they have to actually start from the bottom. They never stop working.

The difference is when they get a bad quality recording the will probably know exactly how to deal with it. Either that or refuse the job. Which I don't doubt they do.

The best mixers will be the ones serving the artist's intent, or vision for that piece of art. Too many mixers want to play artist with the art already given to them by the artist. Many times changing or altering the the provided art's intent. Now, if the artist's agree with your spin on their art fine, but this should be encroached only when asked, not at will. The best mixers will know how to FIND out what the artist's are looking for, and then provide it. Unless, of course, the mixer is a self serving piece of garbage with an ego too boot, which is the common theme.

I became a professional with . 25$ headphones.... Learn what you are actually hearing learn you're frequencies and why they effect the human ears and brain they way the do. Panning and levels is EVERYTHING . learn how to control the dynamics of sound. When you master all that. You can mix ANYTHING

    • @phillamoore157
      @phillamoore157 11 місяців тому +1

Amen…. Instead of people jumping in and learning their gear, and how it effects the recording process, and failing their way to success….they go and invest an obscene amount of money into gear (that is marginally better at best), then want to be spoon-fed information on how to use it. When the vast majority of pro’s never learned like that. Not only that, but these pro’s aren’t about to sit down and tell you everything they’re doing to get their “sound”. That’s like asking a guitar player to tell you how he got his tone. They’re very protective of that stuff.

@@phillamoore157 factoid... every Daw comes with enough stock plugins to get a professional sound you have to actually learn wtf we are doing with sound

    • @phillamoore157

@@GgWifi-ot2sh Funny you should say that. If I had a dollar for every time I made that exact statement, almost verbatim, I could buy that $50K SSL board instead of it’s respective plug-in. There are a few guys on YT that are using some very expensive boards in a “Home Recording” context. And, my argument, from day 1, has always been, that in a digital world where there’s virtually no difference between interfaces today (regardless of what they cost), and the plugins being as good as they are these days, there’s no reason for people can’t get a great sound, with very little money (comparably speaking). The plugin may not sound 100% like it’s hardware counterpart…but, it get’s us 90% of the way there, if not more, if people know what they’re doing. There are only so many knobs on a preamp, EQ, or mixer….people just need to put in the time, and trust their ears. But, everyone wants to be spoon-fed “how-to” info. And, even if they could afford a six figure Neve board, they’d still need to know how to use it….there’s an epidemic of that going around these days, as well. These days I’m more interested in how people can afford to have 500K worth of gear laying around, than how they’re using it 😂. But, I digress…. We’ll said, I agree 100%.

Just a suggestion, the music throughout this video is perhaps too loud and at times interferes with the content of the video in tone as well.

So in a nutshell. Give yourself time. Learn the main plugins (I recommend from an experienced background getting Fabfilter and Ozone - this gives you all you need on top of the DAW stuff trust me). Then about 15 years - you won't get there faster than this.

stop to name it mixing thats 50%
then go and watch painting channels listen what words they use to discribe the whole picture(track)
chefs dont mix food, painters dont mix colors, athlets dont mix musclemotion
all we do serves the purpous of pleasing the brain
i now cringe when ´the speach gets complicated
our brain trys to figure out the environment
and in a bad "mix" the trees are to big, the ocean to small the nightsky to bright and so on..
the funny thing is we see this instant when hearing with fresh ears but as soon as u start to think..
.. oh this knob and this compression setting and now this pricy plugin blahblahh
start to hear (see) stop analyzing (try to impress)
watch the painters its all in there words
think in size - distance - hazyness -clearity -up/down and so on
