Now this song right here just hits different. The instruments, the spoken words and just how cool they are says it all.

So lucky, Digable Planets played at my college in the 90s. They sounded even better live. Truly a one of a kind group.

You feeling the song the same way we did... They bring me back to college and the poetry meetings. Most people don't recognize the theme song to Spiderman (1967) with the horns. The girls voice always got me on this song too.

Jazz & hip-hop blended so beautifully from this trio of hipsters. Damn! I wish they were still recording. That debut album was stone fiYAH!

I miss the acid jazz of the 90's. That certainly was a great decade.

They came with 2 albums then dipped, but that shit was quality. Check out a few of these other tracks by them:
    -"where I'm from"
    -"nickel bags"
    -"jettin"
    -"Pacific's"
    Great reaction! ❤️

I miss the rap style of this era; they were actually talking about something. Rappers from this era were really smart.

I was in college when this album dropped. Somehow, we found out that the rapper Butterfly (the first one) was the son of my history professor. Can I tell you, we were PRESSED. Half of the questions the class would ask would be about his son's music. The professor would get SO MAD!!! It was quite amusing.

Their first album is a must listen, bought it in 93', still have the CD. They hit hard with some serious social conscience lyrics but its done in a very subtle cool vibe way that you might not catch unless you really listen and break them down, which everyone should.

One thing about hip hop back then is that we had variety you can find your vibe in one artist or another. It was true artistry, creativity and talent!

👋🏾 guess what?!? Butterfly (the first to rap) has a son who has a rap career now: Lil Tracy. Lil Tracy’s mom is Coko, the lead singer of SWV (sisters with voices)❤

When this song came out it was our moment of zen to play with my jazz band to settle our jitters. Such a simple atonement to play on sax(me)trumpet (larry) brian (bass)darius (beats)❤

Hey JT it’s the other JT…now that you’ve broken thru with the Planets, time to dive deep down the Planets’ rabbit hole. Well, it’s only 2 LPs (Reachin’, Blowout Comb) but well worth it to check ‘em all out! Recommends include ‘Pacifics,’ ‘Nickel Bags,’ ‘Escapism (Gettin’ Free),’ ‘Jettin’, ‘Art of Easing,’ ‘9th Wonder,’ but basically every song is a winner!

They have an interesting song off the same album: it’s a story about a young black couple deciding whether or not to get an abortion, and it talks about how the government wants to control women’s bodies. Check it out even if you don’t make a vid about it. They were really trying to elevate hip hop with this album, and the follow up is good to, it takes the jazz, blackness, and political vibes even deeper
