Now this song right here just hits different. The instruments, the spoken words and just how cool they are says it all.
old rap songs will be ever relevant... the new rap songs will be never relevant....
So lucky, Digable Planets played at my college in the 90s. They sounded even better live. Truly a one of a kind group.
You feeling the song the same way we did... They bring me back to college and the poetry meetings. Most people don't recognize the theme song to Spiderman (1967) with the horns. The girls voice always got me on this song too.
Jazz & hip-hop blended so beautifully from this trio of hipsters. Damn! I wish they were still recording. That debut album was stone fiYAH!
I loved it. The two styles fit together like a glove .
I miss the acid jazz of the 90's. That certainly was a great decade.
They came with 2 albums then dipped, but that shit was quality. Check out a few of these other tracks by them:
-"where I'm from"
-"nickel bags"
-"jettin"
-"Pacific's"
Great reaction! ❤️
Just wanted to give you your props
@@joeng4057 thanks, bro! Have a good one! 🙌
I miss the rap style of this era; they were actually talking about something. Rappers from this era were really smart.
That's hate
I was in college when this album dropped. Somehow, we found out that the rapper Butterfly (the first one) was the son of my history professor. Can I tell you, we were PRESSED. Half of the questions the class would ask would be about his son's music. The professor would get SO MAD!!! It was quite amusing.
Their first album is a must listen, bought it in 93', still have the CD. They hit hard with some serious social conscience lyrics but its done in a very subtle cool vibe way that you might not catch unless you really listen and break them down, which everyone should.
One thing about hip hop back then is that we had variety you can find your vibe in one artist or another. It was true artistry, creativity and talent!
When I was a kid, I thought that was the hardest line ever. We be to rap what key be to lock.
The main samples are from 1978, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers . A song called "Stretching" .
Digable Planets were a terrific fusion blend of Hip Hop and Jazz, they are just cool like dat
👋🏾 guess what?!? Butterfly (the first to rap) has a son who has a rap career now: Lil Tracy. Lil Tracy’s mom is Coko, the lead singer of SWV (sisters with voices)❤
That's NYC swag! You have to move like you're ready, hard like that!
It's like floating in a lake of verbal mocha with melodic cream cascading over your body.
Just saw you reacting to Pharcyde passing Me By. New Subscriber in the UK 👍🏾🇬🇧
Digable Planets- Nickel Bags ( Of Funk)! 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
When this song came out it was our moment of zen to play with my jazz band to settle our jitters. Such a simple atonement to play on sax(me)trumpet (larry) brian (bass)darius (beats)❤
I love this. I first heard it the 90s
Its IMPOSSIBLE to talk about how much this song changed my ass! 💯
Nicole bag of' FUNK'.!💯🎯👍🏿🙏🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥DIGABLE PLANETS
Miami little girl is mad funny............... Just love when youngins finally hear our music.
Word she is….hilarious…
Hey JT it’s the other JT…now that you’ve broken thru with the Planets, time to dive deep down the Planets’ rabbit hole. Well, it’s only 2 LPs (Reachin’, Blowout Comb) but well worth it to check ‘em all out! Recommends include ‘Pacifics,’ ‘Nickel Bags,’ ‘Escapism (Gettin’ Free),’ ‘Jettin’, ‘Art of Easing,’ ‘9th Wonder,’ but basically every song is a winner!
Swoon units!!! 😊
This is Hip Hop, smoove with the spoken words and Jazz in the background, shout out to Lady Bug, Butterfly and Doodle Bug.
Butterfly is Coko from SWV baby pops. Just some Hip Hop trivia for you.✌🏾
I seen them back in '93 in Northampton, Ma. at a small club called Pearl Street. They had a full live jazz band behind them. Dope af.
love
Finger snap, fingers snapped. 😎😎😎
I saw them live in 1994. They had a live band playing behind them, it was dope. Opening band was Spearhead. Great show.
Sista ILOVE this song this is my jawn
I’m so old school I remember when this video premiered real hip hop right here
Good song u reacted too
Awwwwwww 💩 this one of those ONES🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song is smooth with a nice beat.
They have an interesting song off the same album: it’s a story about a young black couple deciding whether or not to get an abortion, and it talks about how the government wants to control women’s bodies. Check it out even if you don’t make a vid about it. They were really trying to elevate hip hop with this album, and the follow up is good to, it takes the jazz, blackness, and political vibes even deeper
Always loved this song. It just had a different vibe than anything out there at the time. It was a banger and still is.
Digable Planets- Pacifics and also Digable Planets- Where I'm from . Those joints right there will keep the vibe going
This reaction was great lol 👍
I will never understand how people try to claim hip hop now is better than it was back then smh.....
Whole LP was fire

Love your content. But go easy on God's name. Otherwise great reaction.
Problem wit y’all youngins. You think they gonna fight. Can’t go to jazz club and cool out. ?
It's no surprise that there are no books to be found in your home
