- Victorinox launched the FireAnt fire steel set a few weeks ago. In this video I test the performance with different types of tinder. According to the product description, it should be possible to start 100 fires with this micro fire steel. I want to test that!

When Felix says it will work = It will work . The guy I trust for an expert opinion .
Debatable. Felix is a God of survival :D with that said I did just receive it too, but for me it will probably only be used for cases like not having anything to ignite a barbecue with
That's what I think. You're are absolutely right.
💯
You know what lights VERY easily, and you should have in your kit or pocket anyways? Gel hand sanitizer. Mostly made of ethyl alcohol, not only does it light from a single spark, it burns for several dozens of seconds, and is wind resistant, giving you plenty of time to build up a fire. It burns with a blue flame, very much like the Steno buffet food warmers. Give it a try today!
Agreed! Or even the humble Vaseline petroleum jelly!
@@dennisleighton2812 I'd second the petroleum jelly.
That Huntsman was the best gift!
Yes... that's true! 😆😆
I’ve been hesitant to add this because I thought it was gimmicky. This video totally changed my mind. Thank you, Felix!
Thank a lot for watching!
I've been using the firefly one that replaces the toothpick. It works like a charm.
And because it is longer you get a bigger spark.
If you anyway need to bring fresh tinder from home u can also bring a bigger firesteel with you...
I mean... The Firesteel doesent work with natural materials as he shows.
So why u need it? its so expensive and u need to cary youre own tinder? is it worth it?
A bigger light my fire is less expensive than that.
@@lyronixone4567 he shows it catching natural tinder like fatwood though, and admits if he made the birch finer it might work. Finer material will always catch easier. This product would be a way to have an extra fire starter without taking up extra space in your kit. I like having a ferro rod on me in case my lighter doesn’t work for whatever reason, and this would let me keep it with an edc knife in my pocket without taking up any extra space. A bigger ferro rod will always be more effective than a smaller one, I myself keep a 1/2x5 inch ferro rod in my bag, but that doesn’t mean this is a bad idea to have with how convenient it is to carry.
I've been teaching some 9 year old Cub Scouts about both knives and building fires. I'm going to have them try using my FireAnt and Firfly to build the fire at our campout this weekend.
Thank you for helping kids!
One tinder everyone literally has on them are the clothes your wearing. Fibers from any cotton clothes, like jeans, can be shaved off with your blade giving you a nice little pile of lint.
Gel hand sanitizer. Seriously, give it a try. A squirt will light from a single spark, burns with a blue flame, lasts for several dozens of seconds, and is wind resistant. Plus, you will have clean hands. Give it a try!
One thing to be careful of when burning hand sanitizer is that the blue flame can be very difficult to see.
Belly button fluff ;)
@@noncompliance4100 Yeah, but it doesn't burn long. And it has a smell. 🤢
@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic tried it myself a few months back out of curiosity. One strike and it caught immediately . Perfect addition to a small piece of tinder
You should be victorinox CEO or something lol I learn soooooooo much about my SAKs through you… things I’d never think of when I thought I knew it all. Thank you 🙏🏽 I appreciate the hard work you put in for us
Felix would be "Q" in James Bond's British MI6. I come from a spy family, only the American version.
Now I have become curious about another natural fibres: wool. I could knit a wool cap with tassels!
I very much admire your persistance in the pursuit of knowedge.
Impressive. I fully expected such a tiny fire steel to break before 100 fires could be struck.
Yes...me too 🤣 🤣
Thank you! I also use the firefly that fits in the toothpick holder on the Victorinox SAK. It makes that wonderful folding knife even more versatile. But…. The greatest asset on my Victorinox is what you bring to us through your videos. Thank you so much again! You even showed many fire starter possibilities 👍cheers from Canada
The tooth pick fire🔥steel is MUCH more practical 👍
@@edwardfletcher7790 : But I would rather give up my mini screwdriver than my toothpick:(
@@markashlock9017 You could always swap them when you go camping, it's not like you need a firesteel at work.
@@edwardfletcher7790 You can always make a toothpick. It would be way harder to make a firesteel rod ;D
Edward Fletcher, I’ve not tried the corkscrew insert, but I do know that the toothpick version doesn’t fit in the RangerGrip series toothpick. Found this out the hard way. I have a snapped one still lodged into mine.
Thank you, Felix for another great video. I love your enthusiasm!
That was an awesome video. Love the different fire starters and the technique with the saw being held in place and moving the fire steel. Thanks for another great video.
Felix...thank you for your video and for your positive energy!!!!
Stay well!
Awesome again. Your work in making these videos is greatly appreciated.
Fantastic video you are such a joy to watch I hope you have as much fun making these as we do watching them have a fantastic weekend Simon
I love this channel, thank you Felix for your honest ,humble, real world reviews, tips and tricks.
What a great backup fire starter option. Thx Felix for the great test on this. Appreciate your dedication!
Awesome as always!! Love Felix ❤️ and SAK!!❤
You sir are very thorough, and have a lot if patience, great job and brilliant review of such a tiny, very useful fire stick. Great work
Love the amount of detail in your review of the fireant. Your dedication in sharing SAK info will always be much appreciated. Stay safe...🙏🥰
By the way, I really like that you actually try everything for real and make the product suffer to reveal it’s true value.
Sagenhaft!
Great video as always, good to see this being put to the test. As a little fire steel you only use in an emergency and still being able to make over 100 fires makes it a very useful addition to the SAK.
Great video Felix. In Felix We Trust !🙌🏻🔥
Thanks for the review. As always, excellent content!
I've wondered about this. Thanks for the great review!
Again, you hit one out of the park! An American baseball term for hitting a home run and clearing the bases for one to four runs or points. You should make a CD or thumb drive with bow to use each blade on the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, specific to that one style of knife, include a small pocket sized solar charged flash light and sell them in a set or kit. Include your whitting book! You are a genius and you know it! Bravo! Felix Immler, a true living treasure for all of Switzerland!
Looks like a great product to try include with all of my Victorinox pocket knives. Thank you Felix for sharing!
This was originally put out by a company called Tortoise Gear. The first micro fire steel replaces the toothpick on your knife and then they made these micro steel inserts for the SAK corkscrew. Neat that Victorinox picked up on it. The Tortoise gear ones also have glow in the dark plastic which is neat. No, I wouldn't use these as a primary fire source, but as a back-up, they are hard to beat. Thanks again Felix!
Brendan, I looked at these when I found out about them, but the cost of getting them to the UK made them unviable. I opted for a 4.5mm ferrocium rod in my Swiss champ case. I assume you would recommend them?
Felix didn't mention it, but these glow in the dark too.
@@boola69 I do but there is a 'technique' to striking them. You strike along the top 'thin' edge, not the broad 'flat' edge. Also pull the blade (or striking surface) along the fire steel, don't pull the steel across the blade. But it does throw some sparks when you get it right.
@@brendanking7328 Yeah, I'd seen you used the narrow side on a review. I think I'll just stick to the ferrocerium rod as it takes up little space. BTW cotton balls soaked in Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) make amazing tinder, but you probably knew that.
Victorinox is buying these from Tortoise Gear.
Guess I should have watched this before I bought the fire ant system. This video is enough proof for me that I didn't blow my money. Thanks man. 👍
Thank for this positive feedback!
Would never have believed it! It works! Thank you Felix for doing such a great review on the Victorinox fire ant
Wow. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this!
Thanks a lot for watching dear Mike!
Been trying to get hold of one of those for ages! Thanks for the info that it’s now available directly from Victorinox. I ordered a Fireant immediately! Thanks Felix!
Hi Felix, *tolles Teilchen 🤩 wieder etwas mehr auf meiner Wunschliste!*
Hab ein schönes Wochenende und LG, Uw€
Awesome Demonstrating this Cool mini ferro rod! Thanks Brother.
Hi Felix. Thank yo for taking the time to test the firesteel so throughly and film it too. Danke fuers mitteilen und bleib gesund. LG. Nigel
Bravo Felix, great video again!
Thank you so much for all your SAK videos and your excellent work Felix. You're a real knowledge well !
Many thumbs up to you 👍👍👍 and all my respect sir 😉😜😘
From Belgium.
I saw these a few weeks back and my grandson and I were wondering..... thanks, you proved what we wanted out of this.... time to buy! Bravo Felix!
This is great, I have considered this but it’s just so small, now I’m definitely going to get a few.
Thanks for your feedback Tim!
Great video Felix 👍
Great job…thanks for the demonstrations👍
My pleasure!
Your determination & devotion to the SAK is nothing short of amazing & inspiring. Always a pleasure to watch your videos along with your positive attitude & smiling face. Cheers from Canada.
Marvelous, Felix!!! What a great part - so small and so good!!! Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for your kind comment!
Great demo Felix.
I always enjoy your presentations. They're so innovative.
Regards from S Africa
Thank you so much!!
Excellente démonstration ! :)
Thank you so much!
Great video lad, you have some great content. Cheers from Ireland.
Awesome! Thank you!
I've been using fire ants for a while, since the original crowd funding. Very happy with them. The huntsman is almost a complete survival kit with this. I see it as essential EDC.
Excellent presentation as ever! Danke!
Many thanks!
I've seen so many survivalists struggle with a giant fero rod, you must have really perfected your technique in order to get such a small one to work so well. Thanks for the demo!
Great work Felix... I love to watch your awesome films!
Thank you very much!
Great video and proves what a great product it is.
I have one on my SAK but this shows it's even better than I thought. I was cautious to use it except for emergencies but this shows just how many strikes one can get from a single little fire steel.
The Huntsman has been my personal EDC for over 25 years, and I just ordered a Fire Fly kit for it. Thank you for your tips and reviews!
Great video, useful information from your tests of the fire steel
Great video Félix!!! The fire ant works great!!!
Respect, Felix. Good job. Thank you.
All the proof I need! Great video Felix!
Hello from Oklahoma! Great Video! Thanks!👍👍
Thanks for all U do! God Bless!
I've never heard about these accesories! A great addition for a survival sak. I'm still going to stick with my old ferro rod, as fireant costs just as much as a Huntsman in my country! Thanks for the video!
Yes, that's sad but true! Very expensive )-:
Wow i didn‘t expected that 👍🏻 nice !
Thank you
Thank you, Felix! You convinced me to get the FireAnt.
Aw, I missed the usual “Hello You Tube”. Great video as usual. Looked at these, but they were only available from the States at the time and the shipping to the UK made it unviable.
I had the same problem getting them shipped from the US, but now that Victorinox has picked them up they are much easier to get.
I, too, miss the "Hello UA-cam!"
Great video as always my friend.
My bushcraft journey started picnicking with my family. It was cold and damp and we couldn't start a fire. It has been an education, to say the least. Others use accelerants to start fires and don't think twice. We, however, pride ourselves on following the basics and letting the fire and fuel work for us.
Another FANTASTIC video - keep teaching us cause we keep learning!
Thanks Felix, I honestly didn't think you would get 10 fires from it, very impressed and will be adding to my knife, Victorinox Forester.
Despite a seeming dependence on just the right tinder, I'm amazed at how well it worked. I can now see that it has a practical application. I'd be interested to see how it does with dryer lint. Thanks for another great video, and looking forward to your next one!
unbelievable what you always conjure up and how hard you try. Thank you Felix for your ideas, I appreciate it
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Very cool, my friend I just ordered some off of Amazon thanks to this video.
Thanks a lot James!
Perfect. As always. 👍
Great video, great product as well thank you!
thanks Felix for the review. I have been using the firefly (big brother of the fireant) for two years now - don't miss my toothpick much and have found that even without a saw blade (on my mechanic swiss army) that the punch and can opener spark it very well. lots of fun knowing I have lots and lots and lots of more fires to be started ATB
Tks Felix, great tip!
Felix, is the best! Always informative,a d Interesting
Thank you Felix. Very informative. I fitted 3 of my SAK's with firesteal. Champ, Ranger and Handyman.
Super..Thank you. Do you know this video?

I'm impressed that you still have your first swiss army knife. I don't know how many of those I have lost
Or had stolen, in my case 😢
Oh Mr.Felix I can't wait to get together and learn what to do with our new found thingys you sent! Can't wait to see the next lesson you will share with me! I seriously can not wait my friend! I am giggie like a kid in a candy store! I'm so very grateful that our paths crossed Mr.Felix! You really make learning my SAK Camper and feildmaster fun and it's all info that will help me in a serious situation! Can't wait to see what you will teach! Hope your well my friend! Talk soon! Cheers, Jerbs 👍🏼🔥🔪🔥👍🏼🤓
Thanks a lot for your friendship!! I'm also curious what the new fire steels are good for
Outstanding review
Auch bei mir fing es mit dem Huntsman in den 80ern an :) Danke Felix, tolles Video und starke Erkenntnis.... hätte ich nicht gedacht :0 jetzt brauche ich sie auch :)) Grüße
Great demonstration!👍 I'm so grateful to your godmother whose gift of a Victorinox Huntsman maybe set you on your Victorinox course that led to the fountain of knowledge that you so generously share with us all. Thank you Felix. Thank you Felix' godmother😊
Thanks a lot for this wonderful feedback!
Felix, your are a genius. One of your best videos.
Thanks a lot Simone!
👋🇧🇾✌️ Hello Felix - Mr. VixMan! Thank's again 🙏! You are the Best 👍🤘!!!
Great video on a nice addition to my Huntsman. Thanks.
Diesmal stimmt „See you next friday“ sogar
Geil! Ich freue mich schon riesig!
Good test again. Thks
Thank you too!
I just found this channel. Subbed and liked. Thanks for sharing. SC USA
Great videos.I was last weekend in Geneve,a visit to victorinox shop and this time no knives but your english books.
I always enjoy your videos, good practical advice, top man 👍
Super..that makes me happy. Thanks a lot Mark!
Nicely done Felix. Proof! It works and that is good to know. For my use I'llk stick with matches, lighters, and full sized fero sticks but for emergencies or a backup source of fire this is great. Thank you.
You have taught me so much. I recently bought 2 of your books (I don't know if you have more than that), and really enjoyed them!
Thanks for the review. I’ll have to check out the FireAnt.
Or the firefly... Personaly i like more the FireFly
I have the firefly and like it as well. I just like to try new things.😂
Felix, you are awesome! I probably would not have justified buying these until I saw this video, but my mind is changed. My first Vic SAK was also a gift ~40 years ago (but it was the Champion).
Genauso so stellt man sich einen guten Test vor! Danke!
I have the Fireant and Firefly. I’ve trie both and they seem to work well. I prefer the Firefly because I tend to use the mini screwdriver a good bit. They are expensive but well worth the cost in an emergency. Excellent kit and excellent video. Thanks again for making these videos.
Yes, I like having the mini screwdriver. I can always make a toothpick. Firefly for me!
That little thing works great. I need to get one. Thanks 😊🙏
great work!
Very Nice Video I played with the Idea to Buy me one of this. But now I’m sure I should get one
Good review.
Thank you sir!!!
Thanks for visiting my channel!
Sei Grande Felix!!
I’ve always liked the alox knives, but this is yet another reason to go for the more basic celador ones. Great video!
Thumbs up to the amount of effort you put in all your videos. 👍🏻. This addition is one of the best for the SAK. It is still not available in india on the official website and Amazon yet.
Super lieber Felix! Toll gezeigt und gute Besserung für deine rechte Hand, herzliche Grüße Sepp
