Nah, thoughts and prayers taste like a shit sandwich to the victims and their families since that is all they always get with voters still choosing the same politicians that did nothing each mass shooting, no gun law reforms to stop these imbeciles from buying guns and no assurances that this isn't happening again to their loved ones.

Sir Mount good point. I feel like this part of the problem is often overlooked. But sadly it's currently not possible to fight the pharma companies or the NRA-lobbyists in the United States of Mitch McConnel.
@@sirmount2636, the biggest problem is the guns and the gun culture. It's as if God himself decreed American's right to bare weapons, instead of a mere amendment written on a piece of paper.
Joe biden wrote a bill that that passed years ago that banned semiautomatic rifles. It had a clause in there that if 10 years later a study couldn't show that it had an impact on reducing gun violence that it would expire. They could not get a study to show that so the law expired since it did not have an impact. The problem is not the guns. The problem is the public mental health crisis and public financial crisis. If we address those 2 things and work on getting people the emotional and financial help that they need then we can reduce all violence across the board, reduce the number of suicides, and work on making the world a better nicer place.

I agree however Moscow Mitch can be voted out of office after his first term. We the people have always had the power to change things but we sit back and watch our political process morph into a sporting event. We should be engaged in the process so much so it wouldn't matter how much a candidate raised to put out signs and ads removing the power of big donors. But that's my pie in the sky thinking
dredai There are a mountain of studies that show that the amount of money spent on the campaign has literally NO EFFECT on the outcome. The best possible indicator of a candidate’s chances of winning is simply how popular they have been in PREVIOUS elections. Studies have shown that, if a particular candidate A has been historically less popular than candidate B, that they are less likely to win the upcoming election being examined, EVEN IF they outspend Candidate B by more than double. It’s also worth noting, that the way that most people assume that this works, os they imagine various lobbies bribing politicians to flip on positions and take opposite stances to what they used to believe. In REALITY, what is usually happening is, on any given political issue (say gun rights vs. gun control), there are ALREADY politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle. (This shouldn’t be hard to accept, since there are different PEOPLE who are on both sides of the argument, and politicians are just people who got involved in the process). What lobbyists do is, they find politicians WHO ALREADY support the same beliefs as themselves, and they donate to those like minded individuals to assistbthem in getting elected against politicians who naturally DISAGREE with their beliefs...which isn’t really a problem, or sign of corruption, since as I stated before, spending has virtually no effect on the outcome of an election.

@Metalmanmick13 LOL, Unless you are already in critical shape, i.e. very likely about to die anyway, there is actually a lot of evidence that shows that you are MORE likely to die from going to the hospital than if you had just stayed home. If you want to look more into the subject, you should read some of the papers published by the MD. Craig Feied on doctor efficiency. Essentially, when a series of doctor strikes took place in Columbia, Israel, and Los Angeles during the early 2000's, there was CONSISTENTLY a DECREASE in the death rate, anywhere from an 18 % to 50% decrease, depending on the location. Dr. Feied at first thought that this might be due to patients postponing elective surgery during the doctor's strike, but then the same thing also happened close enough to him to witness firsthand when there was a Medical convention which caused many Washington Doctors to all leave town at the same time, LEADING TO AN ACROSS THE BORD DECREASE IN OVERALL PATIENT MORTALITY!!!! This was all detailed in the book "Super Freakonomics", but essentially, the logic goes something like " If you go to the hospital, you will be exposing yourself to people with highly aggressive infectious, highly contagious diseases, which all have a probability of being contracted and leading to life ending complications. Ergo, if you are not ALREADY at an EXTREMELY high risk of dying if you do NOT seek immediate medical attention, then you are probably best staying at home and recovering naturally. This isn 't just my opinion though, it is one that is also now shared by many physicians like Craig Feied, due in part to Dr. Feied's prolific work...

You have to accept your country is seriously screwed when, around the cooler on a Monday morning, you say "How about that mass shooting on the weekend?" and your reply is "Which one?"

These incidents are terrible. But this idea that mass shootings are somehow part of the everyday American experience is just hysterical nonsense.
ReallyBigBadAndy76 They are more frequent than we should be comfortable with is the point, I think. This isn’t a problem that we should be dealing with in America.
This is just brilliant. To pull a trumpie, I’ll repeat myself, this segment of Stephen’s is a masterpiece of modern political commentary; Mark Twain would doff his hat.
I live in New Zealand. As everyone knows, we had a massive shooting in our country this year which was in fact our only mass shooting of the 21st century so far, and you know what our Government did? They didn't even HESITATE to ban assault rifles in our country, despite our already very very strict gun laws. And this was only 2 weeks after the shooting happened. Compare this to the 250 mass shootings in the US this year alone, and still nothing has been done. There's no way else to put it - It's absolutely fucking pathetic that the US Government has refused to change. It's quite unfortunate because it seems like no matter how many Americans want gun laws to change, it all depends on the opinions of a couple of corrupt assholes that run the US Government
You know that a majority of mass shooting in the US are gang related and include things like drive by shootings? New Zealand caved to pressure after 1 incident and banned guns based on cosmetic features, and somehow belive that "assault rifles" were the weapons even used
@@demanischaffer I don't care if they are gang related or not. Shootings are shootings. Second of all, the NZ Government didnt cave in to pressure. They are smart and realised that no one needs to own a semi-automatic rifle, so they banned them. (My mistake btw, full auto assault rifles were already banned before the shooting). I believe all of these guns are still legal at shooting ranges though
@@brittensomerville8883 Shootings are shootings, but how do you stop gangbangers in inner cities with some of the strictest gun laws in the nations?
And yes NZ did cave, the actions of one man who even admitted his intent was to cause debates over gun control and cause people to try and ban certain types of firearms
"No one needs"
Which acts like semi automatic rifles are killing machines when they are responsible for less deaths then fists and feet per year
Even if they banned "assault rifles" (they aren't) they didn't ban the other firearms he used in the mass shooting. Any repeating firearm is apt for shooting multiple times and thus a mass shooting. You even openly admit that NZ already had strict measures yet the shooting happened. It will happen again give it time. All that has resulted is the theft of private property from individuals and one more measure of arbitrary control on the citizen.
It also has to do with the voting majority which happens to be conservative. Lefties are too busy doing snapchats and other social media to vote. They can whine and protest ok but where it actually matters they do not participate. the number of lobbying funds in total is far higher for gun controls yet the number of unique pro gun voters is detrimental to this end.
I don't think you should trust a government with firearms when 94% of background check denials are fraudulently declined (CPRC). Gun owners have zero reason to trust the government. I have been denied a firearms transfer through a form 4473 and I am a certified firearms instructor. I have no criminal record and haven't been adjudicated mentally ill. If (according to the government) I am a prohibited person then I see no reason why the government should decide who gets what.
Considering the entire American basis of ownership of arms is violence against the government any preemptive measures from government is infringement by definition. People are going to fight and die for the second amendment and ironically it will be due to gun control that gun violence increases and not decreases. It is sad that it needs to happen but it is going to happen.
