For heating you have to use the Pressurisation Air Temp and Pilot Air Temp knobs. What you are doing is just setting the target temps (which doesnt increase the actual temps.)

Amazing video thanks Steve for putting the headset through its paces! FYI there are people putting pressure on Pimax to add eye tracking as an optional module for the Crystal Light, and it seems that from the response of one of the reps there may be some hope for this. Can you please add your influence to tell Pimax that this would really make the Crystal Light the perfect headset for those that want to pay for it as an optional extra? You know you would love it for DCS. :)
I'm glad to see people are putting some pressure for this. It was my thought as well. In DCS, the addition of eye tracking can be the equivalent of moving you 2 years into the future in the GPU cycle. People jump 30fps in performance at times with quadviews DFR. I am pretty iffy about the Crystal Light only in terms of performance in demanding titles and the compromises that would be needed in fidelity. So I'm holding. I would not hesitate to pay more for an eye tracked model though.
If it had eye tracking I would have to buy it.
I agree 100% it should be available as an optional upgrade. In an interview with MRTV SweViver remarked the components and licensing for the Tobii eye tracking solution they use is expensive. But even if it costs an extra $300 I think there are some people out there, particularly DCS enjoyers who would pay for it. It would help make the headset more accessible to people with less powerful GPU's while still being able to fully enjoy the edge to edge clarity.
It would also open the door for dynamic lens correction in the future like what was demonstrated with the Almalence plugin, enhancing clarity/sharpness while reducing the main issue with aspheric lenses, chromatic aberration. If Pimax can integrate it into their software (either Almalence or Pimax's own solution) it could further help justify the expensive cost. Plus they could use that technology on future headsets as well like the Crystal Super or 12K and potentially achieve even better visuals.
I don‘t get it… There is a version with eye tracking available. It‘s called Pimax Crystal.

OK You got me... I'm phasing out my G2 and pulled the trigger on a Crystal Light today. With a i9-12900K, 64 GB Ram and a RTX4080, I think I'm in good shape.... And can't wait for MSFS 2024 in November. And... The microphone sounds pretty darned good to me. And I'm getting annoyed that the G2's inside out tracking is hit or miss and really poops on the immersion too much. Sounds like the Crystal Light will put that in the rear-view mirror. I can't wait.
the crystal sounds pretty good to be honest not bad at all, but in simming who are you talking to anyway unless you are on a group fly!

@@PeteV80 but that’s the point.. to see the difference. That’s what I’m interested in well. Normal crystal cost $700+ more than the Light. It would be nice to see how much of a difference it actually makes in DCS in terms of FPS.

@@PeteV80 DFR helps me get about a 10 FPS increase in DCS. It helps, but it's not a gamechanger. I get framerates between 70-90 on DCS servers with a 4070ti. This is a smooth PvP dogfighting experience. But I need a fairly muscular, modern PC to really take advantage of what the Crystal offers. If I knew I was going to be using VR all the time in flight sims, I would have got one with a 4090. MSFS gets only 30 to 50 FPS on my rig. I shut off fixed foveated rendering completely in MSFS because it causes flashing cloud artifacts that make night flights unplayable.

Pimax crystal og here ..scratched lens with 1.5 reading glasses….honsvr …Plano no prescription lens.. looks like a good replacement… or if you know someone that has an original pair of lenses they swapped out for prescription lenses that I could buy from them
Prescription lenses fit on top of the existing Crystal lenses. You don't take the original lenses out for those.
You might want to try reaching out to Pimax. They should be able to get you sorted out with a replacement set of the normal FOV lenses. You'll have to pay for them of course but it should be much cheaper than buying a whole new headset.
Going to show any through the lens? All we are seeing is a 1920x1080 reprojection of your screen
I liked your videos until I saw this thread on Reddit - After using the Pimax Crystal Light for over a week here is how I compare it to the Q3.
Suddenly there is a lot of people that having tried - but simply cannot justify why PCL cost the double of Quest 3.
But you praise it so in all your videos.
do you think the level of resolution/clarity is now hitting that ‘retina display’ level where its plenty and we can start looking at wider fov and other features? I’d like to start seeing eye tracking and dynamic foveated rendering getting more support on PCVR (and HDR when oled panels start to become more common)

I have a reverb g2 and a beefy system by any standard. My biggest frustration comes with having to adjust my visual settings through OpenXR toolkit, companion, and in sim with MSFS only to have a negligible experience nearly every time. Settings are never consistent and my pc is dedicated to using dcs world and fs2020 only. Looking forward to trying out the crystal light. Only other upgrade will be a 4090 when I can.
I'm fortunate to have received my Crystal Light today. And the image quality in DCS and Falcon BMS is fantastic. With a 5600X and 3080RTX 10Gb I still average >50 fps with full resolution. Fantastic HMD. B&W low fidelity passthrough is also very useful.

I just turn Quad Views on in OpenXR toolkit. I'm still finetuning though.

Any thoughts on the Super, do you think it offers much more, (eye tracking)? Cool pics of the helicopter ride! I crewed Huey's in the Army, 3500hrs and some fun stick time!

Thanks again for another great video, and for confirming that I made the right upgrade. This will be my 6th headset, and the one that I think will finally feel like end game with nothing really distracting me from the experience. Oculus Rift > Lenovo Explorer > Samsung Odyssey+ > HP Reverb G1 > HP Reverb G2 > back to Reverb G1 > Pimax Crystal Light.
The fov will distract me, need 12k 😢
Great video. Your enthusiasm wants me to press the Buy button now. However, I guess you need a 4090 for it to run? I have 3070ti at the mo. I'm not looking for amazing visuals or a gazillion fps (I lock MSFS at 30 and DCS at 60) but I would love to get it and use it whilst I wait for the bank balance to grow for the 4090 and extra power supply
I have my order in for a PC Light, but disappointed with 6-8 weeks shipping. I bought it based on information you produce. I've been swimming since 1984 when the Mac had a stick figure flight sim. Oh and good on you for flying in real time. I have never, in all my decades of FS have I ever compressed my flight time. That isn't to say that I haven't fooled around with my favorite flight attendant or taken a nap, but I take off, fly to somewhere, from where I last flew too.

Please do a DCS video with the Crystal Light. I’m very curious how well this will run without eye tracking in that game. I know I’m not the only one that wants to see that. Lots of people in the DCS community are waiting for a good Crystal Light review in that game.
Please show some real through the lens vision at 4k so we can all see what your talking about. Currently it's just you telling us how great it is and all we see is 1920 x 1080 from your screen output. Through the lens will give all of us viewers some idea on what you are talking about.

Do you get any ghosting? I have an add on called Traffic in sight. It adds things like water balloons, para motors, aircraft, helicopters, etc. The problem with the add on is that in VR these objects leave huge ghost trails and are somewhat blurry. DO you notice any ghosting in the Crystal?
Always loved the channel and was excited about this latest from Pimax. But I think you need to take a look at the purchasing experience from these guys. There is no way in hell you are only paying £680 for this headset. Their business practices are not cool and I think you should let people know. I followed your link and for the local dimming headset only option you are looking at around £900+. The reason for the plus is they can't even tell you how much you'll pay until you commit to paying - WTF!?
I think the more features you add, the pricier it gets. But you do get a lot for your money and I'd recommend opting for the DMAS upgrade. At that point it's truly a high end headset for under a grand. I think that's pretty decent. Sadly local taxes and shipment will spoil things somewhat, especially if you live in the UK it seems :(
I am hoping to upgrade to the crystal light, and I will definitely be getting dmas speakers even though I only use the headset speakers on my reverb g2 for communications, main sounds like engines etc go to my 5.1 surround sound system via a high end creative sound card.
I may wait a while to buy the pimax crystal light because I just got my BigScreen beyond like last month and right now with Dmas speakers crystal light runs around $1000

A Quest Pro 2 or Aero 2 is going to have a bigger price tag.
It's possible that something greater does come along, but you have to ask if it's even possible to drive more pixels than this.
Certainly, it's right at the 120hz signal limit over DP1.4 for 2x4k displays with DSC on.
Varjo are now far exceeded by Pimax in this price class. There also is no Quest 2 for a long time yet.

I have the exact same rig. I too am wondering this. Flightsim guy is always non-forthcoming when it comes to the details. Ive told him before, its like pulling teeth getting anything of detail from him.

Thank you for your informative videos! Question: I enthusiastically use Motion Reprojection with my G2 in MSFS - 45 FPS without vs. with Motion Reprojection makes a huge difference for me. What does Pimax offer here? Is there a working solution? I keep reading about Smart Smoothing, but it either doesn't work or creates unsightly artifacts and is actually turned off by everyone. That almost sounds like a dealbreaker to me. How smooth do you perceive the image in MSFS on the Light compared maybe to the G2 with Motion Reprojection?
I'd switch to it if it had eye tracking.

You mention there is no instrument approach for EKVG. That is incorrect. There is both a LOC 12 and ILS 30 as well as RNP to both runways
Why did you not fly the EKVG ILS30?

Question. Steve will SimXR work with the Crystal Light? And if so, is the pass-through of good enough quality and furthermore is the inside-out tracking affected at all when using the pass-through, as they both use the same cameras.

So what is the difference between the Crystal light and say overriding the resolution of the G2 and stretching it to the same resolution? Doesn't the PC have to push those pixels regardless?

My pleasure :) There are bindings called "Translate” forward, backward, left, right, up, down etc. I have mine mapped onto the hat switch of my yoke.

Also, after reading other Pimax customer reviews, I have decided to hold off from buying this product now and to stick with my HP Reverb G2. I'm way too impatient to wait months and months for the delayed order. Also, they have sold out of DMAS earphones and I cannot deal with the shite default earphones. Finally, the included 4.5m cable will be too short for my home setup. A minimum cable length of 6m would be required for my room layout. I really want to buy this Pimax Crystal Light but my common sense says, avoid for the moment. Thanks thou Steve 😉

I have a Varjo Aero would a Pimax Crystal Light be a downgrade or upgrade for MSFS only. ?
By chance we can fly this beechcraft in simulator including classic instruments. In the real world who would fly it compare to a PC12. Two engines with a huge cost and a small cabin without any toilets, no cargo door ans small qty of lugage as well as lower speed.

They are shipping but there's a big backlog at the moment. According to Pimax's estimates, if you order one now you'll be waiting until sometime in August before it ships out.

i ordered a pimax crystal and the Hons VR lens. they are sold out of the 15mm face foam... do i need that for my headset?
It helps to keep your eyelashes from brushing the lenses. You can substitute by using foam spacers (two-sided velcro). Studioform Creative sells a kit with spacers that'll do the trick or you can just cobble something together yourself.
Can't wait for my crystal to arrive. Has anyone upgraded from a 3080 to a 7900 xtx and been satisfied (7900 xtx is my max budget $1399 aud)
AMD sucks for VR vs Nvidia; its common knowledge.
I heard they did suck but now they are better = drivers improved. (and they only sucked for wireless vr = stutters on quest) - I'm thinking the 24GB vram would be bennificial and better than a rtx 4080 (even though it GDDR6 (and not X) )

It's probably longer than that. Pimax was estimating the last of the pre-orders would ship out around early August. So if you order now I would guess it's probably mid to late August before it ships out at this point.

Will it support mixed reality pass through like the Quest 3?
Pimax is working on a mixed reality faceplate that will work with the Crystal and Crystal Super. They didn't mention in the frontier presentation whether it will work with the Crystal Light though.

No chance, unless you run the panel at Quest 3 resolutions.
@@dtz1000 I play in MSFS on Quest 2 on RTX 4060ti 16GB and I am happy. When I will buy Cristal Light it will be much better, cause CL dont compress data and work rather like monitor. A resolution~ 3600x1800 is good for me.

I had a 4070Ti and MSFS2020 in the regular Crystal was pretty good. You can dial back the detail to get the framerate smoothness you want. So a 4080 or 4080 Super would certainly do well.

If you're referring to lighthouses (base stations) the answer is no you don't. It comes with inside-out tracking.

No man, thats the best chip on the market right now for the price. I have the same rig and have the 7800x3d watercooled to push pbo a bit more. Why? Iracing is still cpu limited for me...

@Snakkers well, all things said, i think i can get a decent image quality for sure on 90hz and maybe on 120hz, but im still cpu limited.. im excited for the 9800x3d wheneevr it comes out even more so than the 5090...
