    Marketing is always changing- probably one of the fastest-changing disciplines in the world.
    But over the last 10 years, something vastly different and much more transformative has occurred.
    A true shift in a thousand-year-old industry has happened right under our noses, right under our watch. In the last 10 years, newspapers died. All print media is dying. Television, as we grew up with is dying too.
    For a while, this shift into digital marketing was a dream for advertisers: more data collected from users, more ways to target them, to guess what they want and push it for them.
    But privacy is more and more crucial to consumers using digital devices. We are blocking those tracking pixels, the ads on those media pages are noise that we are evolving to ignore- or that we can just pay to get rid of.
    About Slidebean
    Slidebean is a platform for founders to scale their startups. Our platform offers everything you need to build your startup, your pitch deck, set up your company, and start gaining traction.
    Our team of experts can also help you write and design your pitch deck and build the financial model for your startup.

    Advertisers shot themselves in the foot. Before the invention of ad blockers, I was completely fine with billboard ads, header ads, footer adds, sidebar ads. We browsed the web for years without using an ad blocker. But then they got greedy with pop ups, pop unders, fake buttons, autoplay videos. Today many people think ads are synonymous with scams and malware, and that browsing the web without ad blockers is dangerous.

    • @eltiolavara9
      @eltiolavara9 3 місяці тому +29

      YEAH! and the internet has become so littered with ads that you almost need an adblocker to look stuff up in peace, which renders all those ads useless
      and for some reason they decide to fix the problem by flooding the people who don't have adblockers yet with even more ads, which makes them install adblockers too
      there's constant ads in every possible space, yet nobody's looking at them

Pro-tip, if you don't cook a lot, or getting into it, there's lots of cookbooks for beginners that include a 'techniques' section with beautifully laid out pictures that show you how to slice an onion or cut up a chicken. You don't have to youtube for that.

      Today many people don't think when an app wants to access your Bluetooth your contacts or has a TOS that whatever you type in their platform, chat or not can be used to market you and people don't know how much data is gathered about them and with the rise of LLM / AI it's matter of time until all of this data will be put to use properly and you won't be able to escape ... the tracking, the ads, the algorithm.

    • @WanderlustWonderscape
      @WanderlustWonderscape 3 місяці тому +13

      You want to blame the web sites, not the advertisers. It is the "greedy" web sites that allow those ads and decide how many there are. The problem today is that people create web sites that answer frequently asked questions, but instead of answering the question, they contain tons of word salad that forces you to dig through the ads to find the answer. The web site gets paid for each of those ads, and you get bamboozled. This is why UA-cam and Reddit are fast becoming more popular search tools than Google.

    TikTok finally made me feel old because I simply hate using it. There’s this manic intensity to it that I find immediately off putting, coupled with how passive my interactions with it feel. Many people feel mature or superior because they don't use TikTok. I think that's silly, I don't use it for the same reasons I wouldn't try hero*n or c*ke but that doesn't make me better or more mature than anybody, kids use it, parents use it, grandparents use it, also people get good feeds if they train their algorithms well enough but obviously if you only like and watch memes and people in underwear it's going to keep giving you that, maybe you are actually not mature enough to use it.

    • @RalloR

    The more marketing a brand does, the less inclined I am to actually buy it, because I dislike ads.
    I want to discover brands myself, develop interests on my own instead of getting it forced upon me by ads or copycatting other people (influencers).
    My prediction is that more and more people will get "ads fatigue" like me and marketeers should focus on how to make brands "findable" - not "visible".
    If people are interested, they'll come to you - if they're able to find your product, brand or store.

    • @QoraxAudio
      @QoraxAudio 3 місяці тому +1

      @@TheYars07 I don't exactly know for daily brands, but for things that involve hobbies, it's very easy, just make sure to make all sorts of informative videos.
      For example: if I'm into records and turntables, make some interesting videos about the basics, the inner workings, etc.
      You can use your own products as examples, like the turntable you're selling.
      Create some interesting content that's focused on providing useful info, it takes some time, but providing that service WILL be rewarded in the long run (just takes some time for people to stumble upon your content).
      Do some interesting battles/shootouts between products... some fun experiments like the mythbusters used to do... make a "how it's made" video... etc...
      For other product categories, like the crap I just randomly grab in the supermarket without giving it a second thought... idk tbh...

    well, I genuinely hate tiktok, it's literally ruining brains, let alone marketing. But let's be honest, the culprit here is how much advertisers intoxicated the user experience of doing every single thing on the web: browsing a page, listening to a song, watching a video, you name it - it's not just 'noise' that we are 'evolving to ignore', it's awful! How can a brand expect me to buy anything from them when I get bombarded everywhere with their intolerable ads? I'm a graphic designer, this ai wave I believe will change my industry, scary but I'm doing my best to educate myself now. Use ai to my advantage, but also pivot to new ventures. It's crazy Ai will make thousands of jobs redundant. Being from South Africa, a 3rd world country, I feel for those that will inevitably lose their jobs, and those that refuse to adopt Ai.

    would love a video on the economics of the "Slidebean Yt channel" as a part of the slidebean company!
    how do you guys run it as a part of slidebean - does it have it's separate P/L ? or is it part of marketing ?
    What % of revenue attributed to this channel is sponsors vs product sales?

      Kinda made it already:
      ua-cam.com/video/JI7Vm9RbaG0/v-deo.html
      More recently, we have been branching out a separate P&L- and considering it a business line of its own.

    Ads during the TVC/Print/Radio ("traditional media") era was all about top-of-mind. The intent was to wedge their product so tightly in your mind, at the highest priority levels, so that the next time you're on that aisle looking to buy something in that product's category, their brand is at the top of your decision-making.
    Or maybe to even make you buy something you didn't know you wanted, but, hey your brain went back to that ad you saw on TV and the barrier for entry for that product isn't high, so why not?
    Like my ad mentor in uni said, if an ad makes someone immediately go out and buy something, that's amazing. But that wasn't the intent of the ad. Top-of-mind at the point of decision-making on what to buy, or even IF to buy, was the objective.
    Which is partly why a small hobby of mine is to note what's at the Point-of-Purchase racks while waiting in line to pay. Because PoP is a fun exercise in getting someone to buy something more. I also hate how, with all my ad and PR training, PoP stuff still gets me. I think I DO want that small bar of Snickers.

    So how do I know that this video, which is about how marketing is now different, isn't influenced by the sponsor's marketing goals? This video is trying to tell us how TikTok ruined marketing... but what if that's actually just what the sponsor wants the viewer to think so that they naturally come to the conclusion that the sponsor is the "solution" to this "problem", when in fact it's all just one great big ad?

  • @dttttt

    Where influencers are winning, it's because they're doing marketing as we want to receive it. But often marketers are accountable to bosses, corporations much more than accountable to their target market. And there lies the problem.

    Ironic that the YT algorithm picked this video to show me, as I haven't watched TV since the late 80s or listened to radio since the early 90s. I'm an empty nester now, but we protected our kids from ads like an evangelical sheltered their kids from porn. The only time I see traditional "commercials" is before movies at the cinema, which isn't insignificant, as I see about 75-80 movies a year at the theater. But when I do see one at the theater or randomly somewhere else, they seem so alien to me, and I question who in the hell in our society are they for. The only time ads hit my consciousness is when there's targeted ads on the side of web pages, that are usually so easy to ignore, but when they are related to something I'm looking for, especially when our interest was only verbal between the wife & I, so it becomes jarring. It might be just someone like B&H, bike shops or REI, but still troubling. TikTok & IG reels (I mute YT shorts every 30 days) are harder to avoid but it usually only takes 1-3 seconds to realize it's an ad and go to the next video. I just don't see why the general populace is willing to accept so many ads when looking for content. Of course I have YT premium and begrudgingly just started paying Amazon $2.99 (& joined a class action suit against them).

    This bubble is gonna burst too. Human nature is always about cycles and pivots.
    In the very near future, companies will ONLY thrive under two favorable factors: congressional approval and algorithm streamlining.
    The race to the bottom shall quicken and quality education like this shall fade.
