Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only (bass) formed the Misfits as a punk rock band in the 70's w/ a horror theme and image... However, they were not popular at the time and broke up acrimoniously in 1984... Glenn formed the short-lived band Samhain in the 80's... and then Danzig by 1987 after he met producer Rick Rubin, who convinced him to disband Samhain and form a new band. Metallica were huge fans of Danzig and the Misfits ... and they took Danzig on tour over the years. Metallica covered The Misfits ('Last caress/ Green Hell'... and 'Die, die my darling') After 4 Danzig albums, the relationship w/ Rick Rubin fell apart by 1994 and Danzig left Rubin's American Recordings label... Danzig released numerous albums over the years. Bassist Jerry Only reformed the Misfits in the 90's w/ vocalist Michale Graves, but then took over on lead vocals w/ bass in the 2000's as new generations of fans started picking up Misfits records and merchandise... Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig finally reconciled and started playing select shows as the Misfits reunited, being much more popular than when they were making records...
Glenn Danzig is an absolute legend. Started with the Misfits, formed Samhain and later Danzig. Fun fact: later Samhain songs became Danzig songs. He left the Misfits and they had a resurgence in the late 90's/early 2000's with a different singer....which is probably what you remember. You should check out more for sure. How about that Zombina and the Skeletones suggestion I made? Nobody Loves You When You're Dead. I think you would dig (up her bones) it!
That probably is what I'm thinking about! And I wasn't sure what I was gonna do for the last week of songs (still have yet to record), but I just moved your request to the weekly list! Thank you! 😁
"Mother" is Danzig's most well known song, you may have heard that in passing. The Misfits do go back to the 70's , 1977 is when they started, Glen was with them 77-83, and came back to them in 2016.
Ohh okay, thank you for explaining that. And Mother by Danzig sounds familiar.. just hearing those two words together so I'll definitely have to check that one out at some point and see if I know it.
That is true, but don't forget about his second band formed with Eerie Von on bass and Steve Zing on drums. Samhain lasted till 87 and was a "death rock" band as some call, with a more metal edge and darker themes than the Misfits.
Hi Nikki...heard of Danzig sometimes in my 20 es and I know this song but didnT know that its Danzig from USA...Thought they were a band from Poland :-) great song I think....thx for reacting Britney ;-) A suggestion for a creepy song ...The Cure Lullaby...video...a song my first wife (and I ) heard a lot on vinyl back in the days... A more recent song not really creepy but heavy...Arch Enemy Dream Stealer ...Greetings
If you're looking for a Halloween season type song, check out the song "Abigail" by King Diamond, it's about a possession. Can't get more Halloween than King Diamond. I would recommend the album version, but check some pics of him.
I will have to check out the album version cause I did a live version last year: ua-cam.com/video/6MhVNSmY2sc/v-deo.html But you're right - Halloween is his thing! 😅💀
Misfits have had a few line up changes, starting with Danzig in the late 70s - and IMO created the best Misfits songs (many believe the Misfits were really no more once Danzig left, they were never the same band) - last time I saw them was early 2000s fronted by the bassist Jerry Only, which was a funny gig, pretty cringe but fun! The Misfits you're thinking of would probably be the Michael Graves version, and they did do some decent songs but they're not really the Misfits... Not much in the decent quality vids re Danzig era unfortunately, but worth checking out the odd fan made videos set to the studio versions - in true punk fashion some are very short so maybe do a double bill... :)
@@nikkireviews He had a falling out with Jerry Only - a part of it was their religious views didn't align as Only is a Christian and Danzig ain't! Danzig formed Samhain and got even darker, partly just to piss Only off :D
Mid to late 90s dispite danzig writing every misfits song 77-83 the old bassist won the right to use the name and the misfits came back with a new singer and were pumping out new merch left and right ( still are 😅 ) so thats prob why you thought they started late 90s
Danzig is heavily interested in the occult, so you can assume that even if it isn't about the literal devil, it is at least influenced by his interest in the occult
As mentioned in another comment Mother is most likely their most well known track would be interested to hear your opinion of that one and the actual meaning behind it!
Great song. Thank you for not doing Mother. There are a lot of really good Danzig songs and everybody only ever does Mother because they haven't heard another Danzig tune.
U R Hitting the nail on the head with Danzig here. This whole album it comes off of kicks ass….stay rocking doll

Thank you! Definitely looking forward to checking more of them out.

Awesome, thanks! I'll be sure to add them to the list.

And yeah, just from one listen I wouldn't have guessed they were from the US!
She rides. My fav
Yes its about the Devil. Hes is the "Evil Elvis"
If Elvis and Jim Morrison had a baby, this is Danzig's voice.
Glenn Danzig was formerly in the band Misfits, Metallica covered a song of theirs called Green Hell
For how much I like Metallica, I don't think I heard of that one. 🤔
@@nikkireviews I think it was on the Garage Days Revisited EP they released , might be one you listen to in your own time though, lyrics are out there
Glenn Danzig's voice is what you get when you mix Jim Morrison's voice with a bit of Elvis Presley.
I can see that too. 🤔
En argentina amamos a Glenn Danzig ❤
Glenn Ganzig was the original lead singer of the Misfits! They have been active since the 80s, and are still active today, but not with Danzig.
They have been actually active since the later 70s. 😉
