A cool trick with these screens, I admit that I don't use it, but you have our Polish productions on two screens, Morphiller from MDW^Encore and Wayfarer from Jacek Piszczek. Elude is also our Polish group, the coder is/was a MorphOS developer. It's a cool movie, like almost all of them, I'm considering becoming a patron too.

At some point in the future I might make the plunge and turn my AmigaONE X5000 into a dual-boot system with two graphics cards (RX 550 for AmigaOS4.x and one of the higher end cards supported by MorphOS).
The dual-core P5020 CPU running at 2.0Ghz is quite a cool one... a small heatsink with a small fan and it sticks to around 60-67 Celcius during summer temperatures and below 60 during winter. :)

I know you love them, but this is where we don’t share a unified love. :) That era of Macs was ridiculous. Apple struggling and trying whatever they could to get those Motorolas to not burn up, while also trying to get speed out of them. The water cooled ones were a mess. The memory often died. (for those who actually used them hardcore) Massive machines that were trying all they could to stay alive
The current gen of Apple products may look boring, but the M series tech is a stunning achievement.

I will slap you right in the finger. But to each their own. Apple was the only conpany to actually implement the powerPC successfully. Ibm and others tried
But failed. Remember OS2? Yeah not many do. These macs paved the way for what you’re sitting on with your little silicone M series box today hates him if you will, but everyone starts somewhere.
I still love this era of Apple

i would. that xylene is super corrosive. like acid on a fruit just eats them up. now you can simply remove the 6 screws, the 2 long jobs with a ground down regular long screwdriver, and pull them out and replace the coolant and hoses with modern day liquid stuff thats way safer. even update the pumps if needed without worry of it damaging the board (and the power supply below it)

Excellent video as always! So, you have demonstrated MorphOS, Amithlon, and Pimiga. I got Pimiga 4 intel running on a machine and it works great. Would love to try MorphOS but find the hardware prohibitively expensive. Have you experimented with any version of AROS like AROS One or Icaros? I'm stuck in that quandary of trying to get a modern Amiga-like OS running on standard PC hardware without that layer of emulation. Just curious :) Thanks Again!

I feel out of my chair when he had the demo on one screen and his you tube on the other. 😎 stuff. Dan Woods mentioned Iris as his favorite email client years ago and who know how many release ago. I still have one DualG5 2GH and a few PowerBookG4s. I'm running MorphOS 3.17 (registered) on a 17" PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz. I had a liquid cooled Quad Core G5 2.5 for a while. It sounded like a jet when the fans kicked in high. It didn't leak, but the coolant solidified and she died from heat stroke. I had a replacement processor module but couldn't get her to boot again. I may have swapped out the PSU too. (I've done that once for my Dual G5) Sold the whole bundle a while back.

Well... in the best of worlds, the people behind AmigaOS 4.x (Hyperion) should have done the same thing the MorphOS people did.... port it to all PPC hardware of that time, such as all the G4/G5 macs etc while also still support the more modern PPC hardware that came with AmigaONE X1000 and AmigaONE X5000. I mean... my AmigaONE X5000 regarding hardware is probably half the price of getting my old super expanded Amiga 1200T with 68060 etc (I mean... buying all the parts, make sure things are in as mint condition as possible). :D

I hope someone can help me with this question, because it is (to me) a serious question.
The question is, "What is the 'best' modern Amiga platform?"
By 'best' I don't necessarily mean the most accurate (though that's a huge chunk), or the most powerful, but best suited for what I want to do...
My primary interest isn't in playing classic games or with classic Amiga software.
My primary interest is developing software for the Amiga.
This includes software compatible with 1.2 - 2.04 OS versions.
But it also includes creating modern applications, such as, say, a web browser, which is capable of bridging the gap between classic Amigas and modern systems. And playing games.
I also would like a dedicated system (even if it's running Amiga Forever under Linux) for which I would build/print a custom case. One that would more closely resemble a Mac Classic or CBM PET than, say, an A500.
I would want to develop _on_ such a system, and _some_ of what I develop could specifically target more modern versions of the OS such as 3.9
But the plethora of solutions leaves me confused. What is the difference between Aros, Icaros, Morphos and Amithlon, for example?
I currently run emulation via Amiga Forever (I keep intending to make room for my Amiga 3000 on my desks Real Soon Now). I partially recreated my environment from my A3K, but I'm not real comfortable using it for some reason. This may just be my perception, but there seems to be a lot I have to do for functionality that causes me to "drop out" of the Amiga environment... like mounting floppy drives. And as I also use my Win7 desktop for other applications, I'm always dropping out to of the Amiga emulation to run Windows applications.
After seeing the cost of some hardware Amiga solutions, such as a G5 with Morphos or Amithlon (the costs aren't exorbitant but they exist), I investigated the cost of simply 'pimping' my A3K... But that could break compatibility, would taint the nostalgia I wish to experience when I use my A3K (3.x versions of the OS seem very different than 2.04), and possibly add wear and tear on my A3K I don't want to put on it.
I don't _mind_ learning/using the newer versions of the OS, but I don't want to be locked into them as would seem to be the case if I "upgraded" / converted my one and only actual Amiga system.
So could anyone make suggestions for which route would best suit my goals? If there's more information needed, just ask. I'd like to settle this once and for all and begin pursuing ONE solution.

    • @ChrisEdwardsRestoration
      @ChrisEdwardsRestoration  2 місяці тому +2

ever heard of Pimiga? its based on 3.9 but hyperions 3.2.2.x is the "current" its all still Amiga OS. runs on a Raspberry pi 4, 400, 5 or even a intel UEFI capable device, even old mac

    • @fmlazar
      @fmlazar 2 місяці тому

The problem is that the Amiga OS especially the 2.0 generation is simply too primitive for modern use. The biggest issue is web browsers Modern web sites require horsepower that would bring the most powerful Amiga that you could build, even PowerPC Amigas, whether by metal or emulation to it's knees.

Serious question: what’s the point? MorphOS is a 32-bit OS, it’s all ready not using half the registers in the 64-bit G5 processor that’s already in there.
Also the RAM limit on MorphOS is 2GB (really 1.7GB).
You’re just spending electricity to not use half the processing power 🤷

MorphOS has many other pitfalls too, just like any "modern" Amiga OS. The same with the BeOS and Windows XP clones. You could argue that iOS and Android should never have been developed, or even Linux. There were preexisting OSs that worked on available hardware at the time. Sometimes there doesn't have to be an earth shattering reason for doing something, other than you want to try something different.

    • @danielktdoranie

You’re all failing to get the point. This is isn’t me saying “why are you into retro computing hur dur” I have many retro systems, I love my PPC Macs and Amigas.
I am saying specifically it makes zero sense to run a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit processor (unless that’s all you have) let alone UPGRADE said 64-bit processor. If you were running say 64-bit operating systems like Debian Linux or BSD on the G5 Mac it would make sense but MorphOS is not 64-bit, it is 32-bit.
It would be great if MorphOS had a 64-bit PPC version that could take advantage of that hardware.
By all means do what you want but it makes about as much sense as waiting in line for an hour to get nothing 😂
