PDX, very informative video. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am starting down the Suzuki Sidekick road this weekend. I am buying a 1997 Sidekick JLX Sport.
Thanks for the feedback! I put a lot of time into figuring out the engine management system and I'm glad people are finding it useful! Good luck with your Suzuki!
Thanks for the feedback! It definitely took some work to find and fix these codes. I'd recommend checking fuel trim and your O2 sensor readings as a starting point, but I haven't had to deal with P0172 myself.
Thank you PDX for your informative video. Do you mind providing more information about the new EGR valve you used. I had a hard time find one like the new one you obtained even though you mentioned it was from the "next-Gen vehicle." I found one on Amazon for $99 that says: "Garage-Pro EGR Valve Compatible with 1999-2004 Chevrolet Tracker, Fits 1999-2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara, 2002-2007 Aerio & 2002-2006 XL-7" but it does not appear to be the same as your new one. Thanks so much!!
Sorry for the delayed response! I had no luck getting a new one either. Mine came from the next-gen Tracker at the Pick'n'Pull and it's been working great.
I know this is off topic but I can’t find a video for it I have a 98 Chevy tracker with a p0740 I did a trans fluid Change and it didn’t come back on for about a week and just recently came back on.. keep rackin my brain trying to figure it out
Great video. I’ve spent months trying to find a vacuum leak. Hoping this works 😂 Is there a specific spot to have the smoke machine placed or connected to? TIA 🙏🏼
I changed my intake manifold with another one but the other manifold was from a different suzuki sidekick different year so it giving me problems like heavy strong gas smoking
Based on my experience, vacuum leaks were the root of most of my problems. If you haven't done a leak check, do it first. I had to fix all the vacuum leaks before I could get the computer to run the engine correctly. The good news is that it has run flawlessly for 2-3 years now!
Thanks for the feedback! My PCV valve came out very easily. I just pulled it straight out. Check the condition of the rubber grommet in the valve cover after you get it out. It may have shrunk/cracked.
It's Good idea to change the PCV valve. You can replace the grommet if needed and be careful when removing the old one. Sometimes they can be a pain and come out in pieces. Check the fit before install and use some silicone grease when putting back together.
I bought it online from the distributor here in Oregon. You can find them at www.ultra-gauge.com I'm a big fan of this OBD tool. You can monitor sensors while you're driving - very handy for diagnosing intermittent issues.
@@thisisnotatest2 many thank Bro. I am using suzuki Vitara in Việt Nam, there so hard to find ODB gauge to connect with ODB gate. Is this gauge connect with ODB gate by cable? Many thank Bro again!
It plugs directly into the OBD port under the dash. Here's a video that shows more details on the Ultraguage ua-cam.com/video/WwIS44v5nks/v-deo.html Very cool to hear from people all over the world who love these trucks!
I was spraying with carb cleaner, its super flammable. Not sure if it would work on the Suzuki, but some OBD 1 systems would flash the codes on the check engine light if you put a jumper on the port.
Where did you order the EVAP purge valve? I have a 1996 Tracker and can't find the part. I looked at next gen and can't find that one either. Sad face..
Sorry for the delayed response! I ordered inexpensive 7mm steel band clamps off Amazon. They are a hair too tight and it's a pain to get them on, but they fixed the vacuum leaks! It looks like Amazon now carries sizes in 1mm increments. I'd try a few to see what fits best.
Did you try shooting some WD-40 into the valve ports? I have done that with great success and have been able to revive many solenoid valves that way.. my name is Reese and I live in LHC Az.. contact me if you want and we can discuss this..
Thanks for the video!! I have a 88/89 tracker I moved from St Johns PDX to Vancouver Wa. I would love to learn more about your Tracker experiences
Great vids, thanks. Bought a 92 tracker last night in RDM based on them. Nice rig.👍
Thanks for the feedback! Enjoy your Tracker!

Same exact issue with my 1997. This video and pt.1 came as a HUGE help. Looks like I need to get to making a smoke machine.
I'm really glad these videos helped! The smoke machine is unbelievably good at finding the vacuum leaks - definitely worth the time to make one.
DIY smoke machine. Brilliant!
Great video. Very helpful
Man props to you brother. U went all out to figure the issue 👏🏼 👏🏼 I got a PO172 code today for system too rich. I gotta see where to start now

Hopefully someone in the community can help you with this one. You'll never get P0740 codes in a manual :-) !
Did you ever figure out a solution? I have the same code

Would like to change the hoses , what is the size out cars use ? (Vacuum hoses) so I could replace them together with the clamps ?
I don't have the hose size, but I used 7mm steel band clamps.
I changed my intake manifold with another one but the other manifold was from a different suzuki sidekick different year so it giving me problems like heavy strong gas smoking
I really need your help with my jeep even if I have to buy a new intake manifold
Nice smoke machine ! I will have to go out and buy a jar of spagetti sauce 🤣
Don't forget the $3 soldering iron!
My 98 chevy tracker is running at around 1100rpm idle, when it normally does a 800-850rpm, definitely less than 1000, could that be a vacuum issue?
