The route through St. Paul Pass tunnel and all the way over the Adair loop is now a bike trail. You can start at the top of the grade and ride downhill. When you get to the bottom they drive you back up to the top again.
Thanks! I just put my order in for 585 before the video was even over! I saw that one out in Washington. Also the 589. Didn’t see #589 listed or I would’ve got that one too!
Thanks for your preorder Jeremy. We'll likely offer #589 on a future production run. Be sure to sign-up for our email newsletter and follow us on Facebook to learn about future new announcements. Shane
Revisiting this video as delivery of the SDLs is almost a month away, and I realize that I really made an excellent investment. one MILW, the 585, and one WC, the 582. Can’t wait!
Avery story from a couple years before the layout time. The Milwaukee Road loses three or four monster hopper cars of dried corn kernel derails, rolls downhill from the rail prism. The RR hires a couple locals to go inside the cars with grain shovels and empty corn. Rails fixed, big rail crane puts cars back on track. So far ordinary. Locals scab together plywood chute to logging road below. Corn shovel into chute, into bed of pickup, wash rinse repeat. Over and over again. Pens built, piglets bought and fed. Same with chickens, lots of fryers raised that summer. Egg layers. A few turkeys. The first of fall rain moistens top inch or two. Deer. Elk. Bear. Some bear rumored to look intoxicated, although none I saw looked impaired. Scattered when hunting season starts, I assume after a few fatter than normal shot. Avery really is the sticks. Maybe a little less since they paved the road. Edit. Modeler, road in town was paved before ‘77, for a mile or two up and downstream. I meant down to St Marie’s.
Fellow modelers, if you want to see the whole of the Milwaukee Road between Avery and Alberton, fellow youtuber trainzume is building it for the train simulator Trainz, made by Australian company N3V Games. He is modeling the same era and location as Bill Heiden's layout, except he's based in Germany and is using topographic maps and lots of years work to get it done. His Avery-Drexel railroad, which features Milwaukee Road's Pacific Extension between Avery, Idaho and Drexel, Montana, and features Burlington Northern's Ex-Northern Pacific Lookout Pass line to Mullan, Idaho, was included in Trainz: A New Era. Hey scaletrains! Since BLI is bringing out the Brass Hybrid Dreyfuss Hudson in April, I would suggest, since you got the MTH molds for their passenger cars, that the first run of your streamlined passenger cars be the 1938 and 1940 version of the 20th Century Limited maybe next year. I would buy some for sure when you make those!
No. We’ve been working with our factory and have identified what is causing some pilots to droop. Our factory has already made tooling changes and sent us a sample for evaluation. Future production runs will not have this issue. -Drayton
I am fascinated by model trains even though I don't have any. This layout is incredible, great job!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! -Drayton

Thanks for your order. -Drayton
Looks fantastic, I must get one. I just love the yellow beacon. It makes the locomotive POP.

What was the numbers of the two that made it out west?
585 and 589. They got as far out as the Bellingham branch to Sumas!
You meet drateton wow
Drayton, yes.
Does this one have the problem with the pilots?
No. We’ve been working with our factory and have identified what is causing some pilots to droop. Our factory has already made tooling changes and sent us a sample for evaluation. Future production runs will not have this issue. -Drayton
