Great video! It really helped me to prepare for the job. Btw, does anyone know the torque spec for the bolts? I just tightened as hard as I could (my Haynes manual doesn't say anything about the rear hub, only the front).
Thanks for the video. I was able to separate the backing plate and the hub with out removing the e-brake assembly or the backing plate from the vehicle. Just used a couple of screw drivers to separate the plate from the hub right there at the axle. Took about 25 minutes a side.
Just a quick note, next time you do one or if someone else does one you should remove the ABS wheel speed sensor first so you don't damage it. It's only 1 10mm bolt.
Hi! This was a great video, and we followed it to a T when doing our rear hub assembly replacement on our 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However you did not show how you put back on the parking break lever, and we cannot for the life of us, get it back in. it will not hook on. it's just sitting in there unhooked. Can you describe how you but the e brake lever back on. thank you!
That is a really different design. It makes sense. How many miles was on it before you had to replace it? My 2017 Suburban needed a new front wheel bearing and hub assembly at 25K. GM covered it on warranty. But that is way too soon to have to replace a wheel bearing.
Hey did your new hub come with an o-ring? It seems mine didn't and a lot of gear oil has leaked out now. Probably have to replace the e-brake shoes now. Luckily I still had my old hub so I can re-use the o-ring. How did your brake cable separate from the backing plate?
im in the midst of a rear brake job with new parking brake shoes.when i pull slack in the e-brake cable to hook it with the brake lever, the cable retracts.weird since it moves freely.what would cause this?
After watching you tap the backing plate on i wondered if it would be easier to take the O-ring on the back off and reinstall it after I slipped the backing plate on. Easy Peasy and no hammering.
I did the hub assembly on my Jeep but now i realized it’s leaking differential oil from where the backplate meets the hub assembly. Any idea what it could be I know the bolts are on tight
Hey I’m looking to do this on my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have 175k and was wondering if this solved your problem and if they those Detroit axel hub assembly’s are holding up well? Great video!
Yes! A year later and it is still working great. I even tow up to (and sometimes exceed) the towing capacity and the wheel bearing is still holding up strong.
Hello, Can someone share experience - my WK have this problem too. I did changed rear wheel hub, because there was oil leak from seal. Now i drived more than 1.5 k kilometers, and oil leak is back now, from the same place. What could go wrong with new spare part?
Hi. Did you fix it? I have same issue. Changed the hub because o leaking oil than 10k km later is leaking againg. Someone told it could be axle seal not thw hub. Not sure. Thanks
Is there a seal where the shaft goes through the axle? Or the oil could go straight out? I ask because I changed my hub due to leaking oil from axle and 10k km later is leaking again. Someone told could be the axle seal and not the hub..I wonder if there is a seal there..thanks
Thank you for this video, I was worried about the axle coming out but this helped and I got it done and only lost a few drops of gear oil
Excellent humble approach both a very helpful and calming experience.
The o ring your missing is for assembly purposes in the factory. They use it so the rotor doesn't fall off while going down the assembly line.
I’m over here scared for his wife….. 😂
“Time for a bandaid” 😂 thanks for making this video man really helpful

He ask you a guestion? what is the torque on the wheel bearing nuts??

Thank you

I'm looking at buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee with bad rear bearings so this helps me out
Where did you get those airbags in the springs from?

I would also love to know haha
How long did it last? Detroit axle aren’t very reliable I ordered some for a old car I had lasted a couple months

How can you tell if its front or rear?
Question, the parking doesn’t seem connected to hun at all. Doesn’t seem as if it needs to be disassembled to change the hub?
Is this the same for a 2013 grand Cherokee?
look at the condition of the axle spline. it may need to be replaced also. If the hub is chewed up, you will be doing this again in two months.

Hey did you ever figure out the leaking mine also started to leak
Is it easier to replace the hub then just the bearings

FYI use a wire brush on the bolts before removing the nuts it will make a big difference
and penetrating oil

very informative. thanks for sharing.
Hello. I wanted to ask you, do you send goods to Estonia?
What happen to the O ring you dos not lube?? Does it hold the diff oil? Does it leak??
thanks for the instructional
Great video! I may try this myself. Is it necessary to remove the e-brake assembly, or did you just want to clean it up?
not nessesairly

Mine has the same problem.
I think, maybe the o-ring is damaged while installation.
Ir maybe the wheel hub is bad quality, and oil comes from seal.
Hey I realized i didn’t put the o ring on problem fixed now
I know its 3 years late but you installed the brake shoe adjuster upside down also there's no need for a outer seal on the hub bearing

@@theprojecthomestead5623 Thanks! Looks like I'll be ordering parts today!
@@SEKERAK_est.1985 I have 45k miles on mine and still running good.
Excelente
We want to know socket sizes before we start.
adjuster star you have to rotate...see hole on back plate 11:50 next time :)

@@benmendoza5194 no, i haven't. I think, maybe it is bad wheel hub. I will buy some new, and will install new one. Then will see.

How did you know it was a rear and not a front?
I could hear the sound coming from the rear.
What is this the red into coil spring?
Those are "Air Lift" airbags for towing.
The Project Homestead Thx 🙂👍
Did I miss the abs sensor
There is a hole at the top of the backing plate that the sensor slides into. You can see the sensor at 9:10. You don't have to remove it or anything.
Great video! Wear gloves every time!
the o-ring also helps the rotor not fall off when your changing a tire..
No, the brake caliper keep the rotor in place when you change a tire.
Great video awsome
In addition to the first aid kit, take your ring off. Trust me.
Covered in gear oil 😂 not supposed to be need a axle seal
