- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- After a year and a few months of riding I'm finally ready for a Stage 1 upgrade of my 2021 Harley Davidson Iron 883 and I'm totally doing it in my way. This week I take you along with me as I add a high flow intake, custom two into one exhaust, a Dyno Jet Power Vision 4 tuner with before and after Dyno runs in order to see actually how much power and torque I’m gaining and to answer the question How fast will my Iron 883 be after the stage 1?

Stock: Max Power=49.33 HP and 51.03 ft/lbs of torque.
Modified: Max Power= 50.93 HP and 54.16 ft/lbs of torque.
Total performance gain= +1.6 HP and 3 Ft/Lbs of torque.
Comparing "averaged" numbers may share a wider gain in power, but comparing peak numbers shows the engines true potential.
$400 Dynojet Power Vision Tuner
$60 K&N Filter
$900 Gallop Exhaust
$1360 total performance cost not including labor
No disrespect intended, but this is a rather expensive upgrade for such a low hp return.
If your wanting a louder exhaust and improved looks, I agree your goal has been met.
Sadly, any perceived performance gains are likely due to a perception of power based on the increased noise your hearing.
I cannot help but to wonder if a 1250cc Bolt On Big Bore kit from Hammer Performance wouldnt be a better bang for the buck.
These kits start at $750 and dyno results often show a 30hp gain.
Thanks for putting in the time to break it down. I look at this stage 1 as the pre cursor to the next step that will include the hammer kit, I would need the dynojet and the K&N for that upgrade. Keep in mind I chose the gallop because it installs above my brake pedal almost every other exhaust out there at the time of the install sweeps below the brake pedal. So money invested is an important factor but this project isn’t over so I can’t report on the ROI just yet, but I’m happy with the stage 1 results and looking forward to the engine displacement mod and its results. Thanks again for commenting!
@@KennyQuestShow Keep us updated.
Just enjoy for what the engineers design it to be and Change the Oil.
Now they've improved the slip-on with spring's 👍
Cool!
Nice! Love dyno number videos don't get to see them on sportys that often, I'm always curious what they're making
Thanks! and you’re correct I haven’t seen any either so glad I was able to get those runs in.
That exhaust looks, killer!
Doesn’t it tho’ 😀 very impressed
Awesome looking and sounding exhaust
Thanks!
Stage 1 will be My next upgrade on the 48. Another 🔥🔥🔥 video my friend!
That’s awesome news! Thanks for watching! Ride soon???

Just subscribe to your channel I hope you're still here i'll find out later thanks for the info your bike looks awesome I also have an iron 883 I love it
I’m still here and so is my Iron 883! New episode each week. Thank you for subscribing! Welcome :)
So cool I bought my iron 2018 brand new we've been through a lot so many people give up on the sportster I love it sure it'd be nice to be able to have two or three different bikes but I bought my iron coz I just loved it and I still do appreciate your info@@KennyQuestShow
That's cool asf man thats like 5 mins from my house and I go to the bike night every Thursday.
That’s awesome man! If you see me, be sure to say hey
@@KennyQuestShow will do brother
Awesome Kenny! Hope you get the Dynojet tuning figured out
Thanks! We certainly did, full review coming.
Yeah, K&N filters aren't a compound they are oiled cotton gauze, but yes they are superior if maintained properly. They give the best performance when new/clean and start to drop off performance once they collect dirt.
I’ll keep an eye it. My expectations are that it will need to be cleaned every 3k miles.
Greyghost 1423 is right you do not need a tune on M8 if your just changing exhaust and or air cleaner. The M8s unlike twin cams do not run as lean from factory. The EC on M8s has about a 10% gap that will adjust to exhaust flow in creased breathing from ac. That being said, you would see some improvements , like throttle response and peak torque. I had an FP4 flash tuner, and recently set it back to stock configuration, and I couldn’t see a difference. Save your money on the dyno until you really need it when change cams
All the new tuners coming out that we’ve seen are limited to stock configuration or slip on with high flow intake. I’m told HD bikes that ship with a high flow exhaust are ready for slip ons without a map. I agree unless your doing engine work no need for a tuner, in my case on this bike the stage 1 is a precursor for a stage 4.
I wouldn't mount the exhaust to the frame with the engine moving around in the rubber mounts, and the exhaust mounted to the frame, you'd put a tremendous amount of strain on exhaust studs.
Great advice and we didn’t. No issues of stress or fractures at the collector or intake.
You can mount it to the frame if it's spring loaded. It will all move in unison but will also be supported.
@@craigpennington1251 I asked Pedro about that and he cited Bissani’s he’s seen where it breaks off at the manifold. Happy to report after a year it has not moved
Hey brotha! Killer fu**ing video!
If you dont mind me asking, but how much approx did Stage 1 cost you?
Are you planning on going up to Stage 4 on that bad boy??!!
Thanks man! It cost about $1400 installed plus $90 for both dyno runs
That was a useful video to me as I now know not to go and spend lots of money to get 1 hp more
😂🤣😂
Great motorcycle. I enjoyed the video.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching.
Good video Kenny I do have a question what seat do you have on the there ?
Thanks! The seat is a Saddlemen Renegade
I made a video about it : How To: Harley Seat Install for Sportsters (Saddlemen Renegade)
ua-cam.com/video/zKzPGONdNYM/v-deo.html
Good video! I did similar to an old Chevy when I was young, so I get the desire. But I was just chasing numbers for no reason. Personally, I feel the change was no improvement. You are still riding the same bike on the same streets at the same speeds. I fail to see how increasing the peak HP changes anything. Unless, you’re racing.
Thank you and Fair point. Since I have a big twin EVO to compare it too, where I see the sporty benefiting me with more engine displacement and consequently more HP is on the interstate highway. We’ll find out soon if that theory holds.
No offence but calling it Stage 1 with 1,5 hp gain (at $1400...) is an overstatement of the year. I love the exhaust tho, looks and sounds amazing!
I don’t know what else to call it. It’s still a stage one, right? Yeah slip on’s and no tune would have been cheaper for sure. At least I didn’t purchase a Thundermax tuner to add insult to the financial injury.
No worries ;) im checking every Iron 883 vid on youtube as I wanna get one this year ;) love it
Get the high flow air box.. the stock air cleaner box is very restricted. My 08 883c had it, Rinehart slip on and a dyno tune. 59 or 61 horsepower.
Thanks! Planning on it along with the 1250/75 kit install
Hi Kenny,
and how fast is your Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883 now after the conversion and how fast was it before?
I ride the same 2017 Sportster Iron 883, live in Germany with no speed limit on some areas of the autobahns and have never tried it as it is too uncomfortable for me.
So how fast does your crate run, in MpH or Km/hr?
Dear biker greetings from Munich, Bavaria
Woife the biker
Hi Wolfe! Thanks for watching. It’s runs MpH, in fifth gear without hitting redline I’ve gone 101mph before I lost my nerve and slowed down
Love the hat my dude, where do i get it? 🤠
On Etsy 🤠
Portugal flag , big shout from Portugal.
Yep! Pedro @wanderermoto is from Portugal
only a few hp increase? weird my lil sporty makes like 75 or 80 after a stage 1 I run short shots (no baffles) and a k and n ram intake. its a 07' 1200c with a first gen fuelpak... I hear older tuners dont have to deal with EPA so they Just dump fuel. but it could also be your filter. still tho super cool video. love that note it makes
Your 1200 making 75/80 is typical and much better than my 883. Hoping to see 90-95 after I drop the 1250 S&S kit in it. Stay tuned!
@@KennyQuestShow fair I would have expected like low to mid 60s by Maybe I just underestimated how much bigger a 1200 is from 883 and adding older tuners just dumped fuel into these motors.
@@Genod3500 yeah it’s like 40% more power for a 1200 over the 883
I have a Vance and Hines Fuelpak FP3 and it has everything auto tune and all
Very cool.
Shouldn't it be an open intake to complete the stage 1. Is it ok with the factory cover?
I was told this air cover has a large enough intake to satisfy the air demand and the post stage 1 dyno result corroborated this. I liked the look so I kept it. Since then I decided to save for a Trask Performance air box.
@@KennyQuestShow I think I will also do the same. I've seen riders deleting the cover that comes behind the air box cover. Your thoughts on this? Let me know. Loved your video bro. Very informative. Keep doing the same 🍻
@@17ShanDs if it brings in more air it’s a good thing. Just flash your ECU with your tuner so it calculates the proper mixture otherwise your ECU Won’t notice any difference in calculating the air / fuel mixture
I just run Vance and Hines slip ons I wanted a better sound but I didn't want to pay for the tuning it seems to help with the speed a bit not sure but the sound is phenomenally better I was curious if I could get that air filter the K and N air filter and run with my slip ons without having to do the tune
You are safe to run the K&N more safe without a tune than the slip ons actually, overall you’re fine. My tune with the FP4 did very minimal adjustment. If your ticking and popping down the street or your fuel economy changes that’s when you pause and get a tune but a CARB compliant slip on will run on a stock tune.
thanks brother I need to change my air filter I thought that would be a good option for now I want a super sucker but the cost of that in the tune is ridiculous@@KennyQuestShow
@@michaelmunkers5144That’s exactly why I did what I did. It doesn’t need more airflow until I drop that 1250 kit in there
Dude, who is the mechanic? I live near you and want to get a quote to install a Hammer I have coming.

Hello from Spain!
Where can i buy a sissy bar like yours?
Thank you!
Hello! You can find it here: tinyurl.com/QuestSissyBar
@@KennyQuestShow Thank you sir!
Dont need any of that map shit. Run just fine with a stage 1
In my case with this 883, perhaps not.
Stock Sportster has plenty of Torque and Power. What it lacks is Brakes. The single front brake is total crap. Should have duals with multi piston Brembo's. If you ride very long you are going to need good Brakes more than speed on a Motocycle! And after Brake Mods don't need to Dyno it.....
Great point. They’ve offered dual discs on 883’s in the past. I’d argue though that an 883 doesn’t need dual discs and I feel that I have good stopping power, IMO. I’d suggest ABS as standard to be more useful to a newer rider and the new Nightster has ABS available.
Don't want sensors messing with my brakes. Hope you don't have to use that great Sportster stopping power when that left turner on a cell phone crosses your path like happened to me....@@KennyQuestShow
@@user-st4gq2ox8m I’m sorry that you experienced that.
Semi metallic pads or full metallic pads will definitely increase your stopping distance over organic pads. They don't like to get wet, however.
Right Bro...Have them,,, also Arlen Ness makes a big brake for real late Sportsters not my 97 model. Everybody goes for speed but after 56 years of ridding I can guarantee you it's BRAKES you are going to need way before SPEED!! Old Timer with all my limbs still..... @@feloniousmonk3049

Yes he is. 👍🏼
K&N filters are trash…
That oil goes into your intake and gums things up.
Good to know. Any alternative recommendations?
This is false. At one point, over oiled filters would cause issues with in-line MAF sensors on vehicles. When maintained correctly, they air actually superior in flow and cleaning ability. Hell, harley vents oil into its intakes from the factory.
@@bgomusicco The recirculated air back into the intake is required by the EPA/DMV due to environmental protections (not because of performance) and ultimately causes carbon build up on the pistons.
And I’ve only heard of oiled filters causing issues for MAFS and coating intakes with oil.
nice anime gloves btch 😂
You talking ‘bout my prison break wrecking crew gloves? 😜

that small gain wasnt worth the money
If that was the end game, agreed. The end game is a stage 4, 1275ci. You have to do the stage 1 first.
@@KennyQuestShow then just buy a 1200 and then dont gotta spend more money on it
just buy a 1200 and start from there lol wow
@@bryansullivan9588this is my first bike, that ship sailed, that said the 1200 is a different style. That said why bother with sportsters, trick out a low rider S. Dude there’s no logic or reason to any of this, that shit don’t matter.
After the mechanic took the Lord's name in vain, I exited out. "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takth His name in vain".
Apologies.
The only sin here is calling himself a mechanic and using a Ryobi.
In all seriousness- you should learn your religion a little better. Using the word ‘god’ has nothing to do with any religious law. ‘God’ is a title, not a name. And it says name… not title.
God
Or Cloud Unicorn
@@croaero Indeed. God is a title or a rank, not a name. If bible is what you read then the name you are looking for is Jah, Yahweh or Jehovah depending on which translation/form you prefer but they all mean the same thing anyway. A name you are allowed to (and should) use but not be disrespectful to it, which the verse you were talking about actually means. The word god without context of whom is being talked about means nothing, it could refer to the omnipotent but for all we know it could refer to any being people may consider to be a god, hell even the devil. Or it may not mean anything or anyone and is just an expletive.
Also, no one cares if you left
Gotta admit, I'm really pretty shocked Dyno-Jet would put a new tuner on the market with such limited application. That really makes that unit NOT such a great deal after all. To me, that's just plain incomplete, and honestly shouldn't even be released yet. Maybe if you go over and see @sickwideglide over at Blockhead Garage, he might be able to work up a custom map for that setup. Being a small-shop custom full exhaust, that might end up being your only real option for true best results.
That exhaust looks way cool, though.
Yeah we we’re really disappointed with the Powervision 4’s offerings. I have a more in depth video coming out on the DynoJet PV4 and what we ended up doing in regards to a permanent tune. That’s for the compliment on the look, it came out awesome!
