Tidbyt is doing some aggressive marketing, and “can I build this myself?” is a pretty natural reaction to their ads. I have a feeling this video’s gonna draw some attention to your channel.
would i need to upgrade any of the parts if i were to write more complex apps and hook many of them up to the display? for ex tracking many sports teams, stocks, weather, etc? mostly wondering about storage. great video though, thank you!
The 2MB on the pico is a lot which leads me to believe that this can probably be ported to c to save the space and use the pico. Then again, the esp32 is also really really cheap for how powerful it is
I did wire that up and it worked well, I think I switched back just to make the project a little cheaper and a little more beginner friendly. Definitely an option though!
Is there an easier solution to moving the matrix portal off of the display? I bought the adafruit kit ADABOX 016 and it has a ribbon cable but both ends are female. Can I just use a male to male 2x10 IDC adapter?
Where can I just get that back connector? I can't find it anywhere. I have a bunch of those displays. I just want that back piece that quick connects the esp32
If I'm thinking of the right cable, I think it's called a 2x8 IDC 16 pin which can be found here: amzn.to/427LKdq I haven't tested those so I can't be sure, but that should get you close. However, if you're talking about the power cable, that you can get directly from Adafruit for a couple bucks. Hope that helps!
Very informative. Do you have a link for the 20-pin extension cable? I cannot find this thing anywhere. Only 2x20 40-pin seem to be readily available. Thanks again. And thanks in advance!
Thanks! So you totally can, but you’ll have to write the code for that yourself. Won’t be difficult at all, but won’t be as automatic as the real TidByt display. Hope that helps!
This is really cool! Thanks for taking the time to share this build. I really want something like this to report weather. I’m not very talented at coding. Is anyone is sharing/selling their codes for custom apps? Can I have chatgpt write the code?
Why dont you just buy a pad, fire up after effects, build yourself a little movie and play it repeatedly, after all that youll have a touchscreen computer with gigabytes of space and full cpu. Try to play a movie with that pico
Thanks for watching everyone! Hope you enjoyed this project! Don't forget to checkout the build plans here: www.modhobbyist.com/plans/p/diy-tidbyt-display and get $5 off your first order at PCBWay with this link: pcbway.com/g/F41R62
Half the $200 price is like two times too much. An obsolete tablet for $50 looks way better, or is having a grainy cheap looking 90's display the 'in thing' now like a gameboy instead of your phone?
@@ozflyoutfitters7624 thanks for your support! I'd definitely say jump on the Discord server, that way if I'm busy someone else may be able to help out!
Hello - I'm a novice at wiring.. Can you provide more photos or detail around the wiring harness you created? I appreciate the video.
Wow, this video is criminally underrated. Thanks for the resource!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

I hope so, that’d be awesome! 😂

Nice, subscribed! Any idea if this also works with the ESP32-Trinity?
So cool! I love the dovetail joinery too, freaking awesome.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!

I'd buy anything that can do the 'morphing clock' that was released a few years ago!
Given the memory limit of the Raspberry Pi Pico W, what about using a Raspberry Pi Zero W?
I did wire that up and it worked well, I think I switched back just to make the project a little cheaper and a little more beginner friendly. Definitely an option though!

Fun project! Might have to put the extra pico I have to work!
Thanks glad you liked it!
Hey would you be able to help me accomplish this using a Rasberry pi zero w and the adafruit rgb matrix bonnet?
Hay what if i wanna put a html script in instead of a youtube channel stuff? Was hoping to put a dcript in that shows the climate clock
Is the 1.5 version of hard wiring explained in the plans?
great video, suprised you only have 10k subs (should have more). keep it up! :)
Thanks! That means a lot!
can this be done for the rapberry pi zero 2w? maybe with just an e-ink display?

could cut one end off and connect directly
I thought you said there was a link to the code.?.?
Looks cool, but just to clarify you can’t have this version display baseball games scores and football game scores live correct?
Thanks! So you totally can, but you’ll have to write the code for that yourself. Won’t be difficult at all, but won’t be as automatic as the real TidByt display. Hope that helps!
With enough conviction, time, or money, anything is possible.
AWESOME!
Hey, I built it, but can't use it. I need to show BTC price ticker. Any ideas? I don't know any programing. Thank you for helping.

🤫🤫🤫 that’s one of my next video ideas 😂
That’s great! Looking forward to it.
Epic, I subscribed.
Thanks for the support!
Why does nobody build 320x200 displays and runs a console on it? Sega Genesis?
Yes and it's like 50% cheaper too XD

No thanks, not giving out my personal info to you to get them
Certainly cool, but too limited in functionality for that much of a hassle. For not that much more you can just buy one. It will be better too.

Yeah I guess that's how I look at it. It's a fun little low-tech way to see quick status updates on things. 🤷🏻♂️
giving a sub! Trying this out (but running into some issues/going to need some help). Will ask on your discord!
Thank you and welcome!
Just ordered your links in hopes to get a water app going!
What’s the best way to contact you for questions?!
