@@marcellmohacsi260 it may have been a little gust, but that’s it. What people are pissed about is the fact you put a tittle that eludes to the delusion that you were out there sailing in 50kts of pressure when clearly you weren’t. No big deal, flat sea state, nice day.
that moment when ur on the wire and theirs too much windward heel and you’re struggling to get yourself into the boat and ur skipper isn’t balancing the boat
This is a very good video, and I don’t mean to argue, but that isn’t 50knts. 50knts is around 60mph. That’s nearing hurricane levels. After snapping a mast in 35mph winds, and with the conditions and waves then, I find it hard to believe it is nearly doubled that. That’s around 20knts, At a push 30knots at times. There was probably a conversion error somewhere. You wouldn’t be able to keep it flat with your main pinned in. Still a good video.
Good video for sure. It's a UA-cam thing to speed video 'as though' the object were going different speeds. Maybe that's what they were doing with the title. Of maybe just looking for views;-)
I want to preface my argument by saying that you are correct and I'm mostly being pedantic. There are places that build a seabreeze above 50knts which is a gale force, hurricane force winds start at about 64. Just recently here in South-Western Australia we got a low pressure system which brought winds of above 50 knots. These boys probably just read the wind warning for their local area and put that number in the title. There was also a day at the 420 australian championships where it got to 45-50 knots and some of the heavier crews managed fine.
The 420 with decent crew weight and skill is a great boat in crazy high winds. It's easy to get on the plane and that makes the big winds not a problem because pressure on the sails is reduced. The 420 planes up to silly speeds. On a 3 sail reach you can go crazy fast. I never actually satnaved it but it must be 16knots or so. After the 420 in 20Kts+ winds we decided we needed to find the same sort of challenge in lesser winds. We bought a Laser 4000. It was a struggle at first because it is pretty horrible upwind if you try and sail like a 420. You have to let it breath and not try to feather it. Back off a little and flatten it and it will plane upwind in 14kts of wind. Off the wind it's crazy. Raise the gennaker and the boat becomes a zen machine. You end up planing at 20kts and you can take you hand of the tiller and the boat just ploughs on confidently. Great feeling but if your heading for a shore it can be a bit disconcerting. Turns out Gybing at high speed is actually quite easy. Turn slowly, keep the boat flat and Duck. Your crew will sheet in on the other side and you're away again. The L4K is a ludicrously underrated skiff. If you want to go really fast for not a lot of cash there is no better boat available. Luv and Peace.

Cool video and good sailing. The puff that capsized you was wicked. I bet you know better, what it's like to have this kind of strong wind on a small lake, like Balaton.. Because of the size of it, there can't be any high waves, it's just physically impossible. This kind of wind chops off the waves top's easily, that's why there are no whitecaps but heavy water spays. I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
