What he said didn't surprise me at all. Jim has always been outspoken and I respected his play and I also respect what he had to say about the Cardinal organization. He hit the nail on the head. Hopefully the organization will turn things around with new management. We shall see....

Thank you for the content! you are spot on with everything I would like to say. Edmond was a childhood hero for me and helped rekindle my cardinal fandom because I heard him on the broadcast and I appreciate it as well! I have also felt the dynamic in the dugout over the last few years and you are the first one to bring it up and I appreciate that thank you!

Well said. My team, the Milwaukee Brewers have come close over the last few years. Winning the division, wild card spots, etc. Only to end up getting ousted usually in the first round of the play-offs. Every year it's the same "excuse". We're a Small Market team. We can't even begin to match the salaries of teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Phillies, or any of the New York or California teams. Every single year, same thing, over and over and over and over and over again! The Brewers are basically a Minor League team that brings talent up, turns them into stars and then they go to the above teams for $30, $40, $50 million dollars plus per year. It's become increasingly more pathetic, yet NOBODY makes ANY KIND of suggestions to fix this mess. Every year, same thing. Dodgers spend d*mn near a billion dollars for free agents. It's become less popular than ever. Unless of course you live in one of the biggest cities that pay for their World Series titles. There has to be some sort of salary cap implementation set up. When teams can spend unlimited money on players while other teams scrape the bottom of the barrel hoping to land a decent player🙄 who has something left. The Brewers front office moves have been a perfect example of this. Over the last 5 years they've lost their Starting Ace Pitcher in Corbin Burnes. Then they lost not one but TWO top Closing Pitchers(Josh Hader & Devon Williams), and their top offensive player in Wily Adames. Not to mention countless other players over the last few years. At what point will fans get fed up about this?

He was too HONEST about the Cardinals poor management and stupid strategy. He did not KISS MO’s or OWNERSHIP’S ASS like Marmol has made a CAREER of. Marmol is a horrible manager but he sucks up to bosses while throwing Cardinal PLAYERS under the bus publicly. Edmonds knew the management is not committed to winning any more but just putting asses in seats. He was TOO honest to fans and the “new” LOSING strategy is NOT the old Cardinal way! Jim talked about BASEBALL in the booth and didn’t always try to be a stand up comedy routine like one particular “analyst” tries EVERY time he’s in the booth! And that other clown brings Chip Carey’s normally good broadcasting down about 5 levels because he wants to have the attention with jokes rather than let Chip do his normal good job!

@@davidcassity6593This is from an article in the San Diego paper last spring:
The reason remains mostly a mystery, as Mozeliak publicly cited only “philosophical differences.” There was, however, something of a guerilla campaign in which Shildt was portrayed as being demanding to the point of domineering with his staff.
Shildt vehemently denies that was the case.
“I know the people over there,” he said. “I know what I did. No one was treated disrespectfully. People had an agenda and then controlled the narrative that is completely false.”

I too really enjoyed Jimmy's analysis of the games. Sure he could be a little dry sometimes, but that insight he has into the game is absolutely priceless. It is also absolutely SHOCKING to me that the org itself is not actively asking alumni to come to ST and to the games, much less not doing so when one of the players specifically asks for someone like McGwire to come help out with hitting! Maybe the entire org needs to get back to doing things The Cardinal Way. Sounds like they've lost their way.

Spending on coaching again seems like a good idea. Bonus if the organization can weave in some story line announcers can reference for easy inane company positive banter. Simple idea of some rally cry for help from the DeWitt family would be laughable.
Not much for top name alumni possibles. McGuire turned down extending as the Cards hitting coach a bit over a decade ago. Coaching retired for a few years now. Albert has many years left on his Angels team services contract at 2m a year.

@@markeastridge9649 couldn't agree more. Simply asking alum to come down to ST and help out the coaches would seem to be a huge, easy thing to do in my simple mind. If some don't want to come, that's fine, but it at least shows the alum that the org still values their input.

The organization IS DeWitts, MO and Oli. There's no joy and cohesiveness bc when they fired Shildt the while tone changed. Oli was Never Mgr material, MO is a garbage GM, he's gotten lucky and lived off the success of Busch and Walt Jockety.
Also the DeWitts are worried about there bottom dollar and building there real estate portfolio. Which is fine, but when you lose focus of why your there, IE: the team, there nothing there!
Bring in Albert and Yadi to turn this team around. Get rid of the cancer, MO and Oli, and the other garbage coaches. And the DeWitts need to allow the team to grow.

Jim Edmonds was speaking the truth - to an extent. Most of the fans feel the same way he does. Since the end of 2021 (the end of Covid….coincidentally when Mike Shildt was unceremoniously cut loose after 4 excellent years as manager.
It seemed like he wanted some decent pitching in his rotation in order to be competitive in the postseason. Neither the owner nor Moz was willing to go after some decent pitchers until DeWitt saw the handwriting on the wall with fan staying away and went after Sonny Gray. Even then, Gray was our only decent starter.
Edmonds said some nice things about the owner and the front office, probably because he might like to have another job with another major league baseball team sometime in the future. But, it was pretty easy to read between the lines. This team is no longer the kind of team led by Herzog, Shoendiest, LaRussa and most recently Shildt. They don’t play as a team any longer.
I’m particularly disappointed with some guys like Mikolas who had an excellent year in 2022 when a new contract was on the line and has since pitched like he didn’t care any longer. Face it, he started 32 games last year with an ERA well over five. It was almost as bad in 2023 …the year immediately after he got that 3 year $54MM extension. He wasn’t hurt he just wasn’t performing. We gave Matz a 3 year $44 million contract and he’s been averaging five or fewer decent starts a year the past two years. He may be hurt, but …he may have picked up the bug from Mikolas. It’s a contagious thing that spreads easily, especially with rookies who are very subject to influence.
Shildt kept it under control. Even with a team like San Diego with so many primadonna’s he doesn’t let that hot dog attitude get in the way of playing good baseball. Olie may be a nice guy, just like Mike Matheny was a nice guy, but neither of them are good managers who can elicit the best from their players. If my view of this is wrong, I’d like to know why. As an 80 year old fan (since 1951) I don’t have the real inside info on the teams health but it’s easy to see when guys can’t learn to hit for average with runners in scoring position instead of swinging for the arch and striking out most of the time like Gorman. He should be staying down in AAA until he learns to choke up a put a ball in play with RISP. It’s a basic teamwork lesson.
They can’t bring back Shildt but they can look for a smart manager like Mattingly to get the team to start playing like a team again.
    Will they? Probably not.

Big surprise you could see from the outside in this organization has been running down hill fast. Ownership does nothing but wants fans to come to the park every year, GM is by far top 5 worst in baseball, coaching staff is a bunch of nobodies that obviously can’t coach or develop, they screw up almost every prospect that comes up, I can go on and on. But it starts with this team needing new ownership. One that’s willing to invest in the team, in the city of St. Louis, and to give players reason to want to come here like they use to

JD, you talk about the dugout emotion. I somewhat agree, although I see more emotion than you suggested there is, and I see clear reason for what's causing it.
One example: there are 3 players in arbitration this off-season because Mozeliak (and Bloom) cannot do the job of negotiating contracts. Another example: Mo treated O'Neill disrespectfully in arbitration after he put up good numbers, and we all saw how that turned out on the field. Yet another example: other players should have been rewarded with bonuses during their contracts, since they were playing at the same level but underpaid versus opponent players at their position around the league (Edman et al). There is currently no incentive to be on the Cardinals.
The problem in StL is all in the front office, and the DeWitts took a step in perpetuating that problem by bringing in Bloom, after the chaos he had caused in Boston and getting fired for it. No wonder the team is lost emotionally. They know what Bloom did. And Mo's decision to bring up Walker before he was actually ready to play at the MLB level didn't help clubhouse morale.
One more example: when players leave and get away from the StL front office (Mozeliak), they generally all get better on the field. Edman wasn't even playing all last season "due to injury" in StL under Mo, but he was certainly healthy when he got away and went to the Dodgers.
Edmonds is right in his criticisms, but he's being political when he fails to name names and says he "respects" all of those upper organization people. Marmol is not the problem, the others above Marmol are the problem. Nobody around the league wants to make any deals with Mo or Bloom. That's where this "aura" is coming from.

I expect a lockout this next time the player union agreement comes to the fore. If there is not some kind of true penalty (something creative, like, for every free agent signed internationally or domestically the acquiring team will forfeit a set number of draft picks and, if the signature has been to outbid the old team (after the old team made some required minimum to keep the player, then the acquiring team gets to pick a player from the acquiring team’s minor league system…regardless of the level. To let the Dodgers (I live in the LA area) spend money as if they print it, when you have teams like Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and even STL that just cannot keep us. Their team ownerships are not trillion dollar hedge funds, they are owned by team owners who make a living owning the respective teams, like the Laker ownership, for example. When the dodgers can spend and spend just to prevent someone else getting the pitcher, then other owners have to get creative. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE, as eventually the money destroys the league.

All the fans see, and it's just our perspective is a lack luster dugout. When this seems to continue for two years now, it's got to be ownerships job to recognize this and breathe some life back into such a team. He was part of a group of winners from the old Cardinal Way. Shildt studied under Kissell and was part of the real Cardinal Way. Mozaliak and DeWitt decided there was a new Cardinal Way, its been going downhill since. They need the Red Jackets like Chris Carpenter again. We grew up with Red, Whitey, LaRussa the rest seem rather small. They apparently don't need Cardinal Nation either. Please estimate the rough revenue of a million less in the stadium. Then, we can double that to show we understand a revenue driven company.

Wow! So genius Jimmy finally breaks the top secret news that there are problems in the Cardinals organization! What a breaking news flash! Not! He sounds like a disgruntled fired employee. It was so boring listening to Edmonds drone on about his playing days. I usually listened the KMOX audio or the opposing teams broadcast whenever Edmonds was working. So glad he is gone.

I loved the hitter/fielder prospective from JE.
Tim MacCarver got on the same people's nerves for mostly the same things. Bitchers gonna bitch.
CC & BT have good comedic chemistry. Lil heavy on pitcher prospective so need a JE TMac type.
Now, the one thing that would forgive all sins would be:
    Chip & Danny Mac!!!!!!!!
Bring BT, AH, RA, AW...in as a 3rd wheel each game (think Monday Night Football).
I miss DMacs historical prospective. CC didn't know all the Red Jackets that are gone rt he way DMac did.
God I hope this is in the works.

Things have finally came to a head that a lot of people recognized was coming for several years. Edmonds played for a real and organized manager. LaRussa was a manager that had expectations for his players and coaches. Once he was gone, Mo filled that job with his first yes man Matheny who had initial success while there was still some LaRussa influence around. Every year that Mathey was here, things got worse. Mo finally replaces him with Shildt and the team started to perform again but then fires him for "philosophical difference". Most fans take that as Shildt was not going to bow down and kiss the ring of Mo like Matheny did. He then replaces Shildt with Oli who, after a successful first year with alot of the Shildt influence still in place, has been horrible ever since. Oli is nothing more than Matheny 2.0. Look at the how the players acted in the last couple of seasons under Matheny and you see the same type of atmosphere the last two years under Oli. The team is just flat and the coaches around the team seem to have no way to teach and help players at the major league level. Mo and DeWitt wanted complete control of the roster and the field. Instead of building a staff with solid baseball men, they bring in guys they can control. My hope is DeWitt can recognize this, hence the hiring of Bloom. As well all know, Mo is too smug to see that anything he is doing is wrong or has been bad. Mo should have left Gersch in the GM roll and kept himself in the background because nobody believes his BS anymore. I appreciate the success that Mo had initially but I am already ready for this season to be over so that Mo can move on and hopefully Bloom will send Oli packing as well. It is very telling of how things are in an organization when guys want to work with other hitting instructors (McGiwre, Holliday, etc) and other pitching coaches (Z. Thompson working with is college coach) instead of the guys the Cardinal organization have (Blake) or had (Turner Ward).

    • @LockedOnCardinalsMLB
      @LockedOnCardinalsMLB  3 години тому +1

I meant that winning usually breaks up the "tension" that he spoke of in the clubhouse... everyone is happier when things are going well and they haven't gone well in back to back seasons. As far as alumni go, if a lot of them feel this way they need to all sit down with the DeWitts and talk it out like adults, just be honest about things and normally it will get straightened out.

    I do believe ...
No Show Mo, decided to let the Cards be so bad in 25, that Arenado will waive his entire no trade clause.
    And accept a trade anywhere.
However it make no difference. Keep him or trade him under No Show Mo, Cards have no means.
The fact Marmol remains is only the tip of the iceberg.
Until Chaim takes over completely they be no where, with no cause.
A couple years of Bloom, we'll at least see a progressing Farm.
But more importantly, he'll bring the Cards farm back to the top 3 in baseball.
Give it 5 yrs he'll achieve that. 2031
But we'll be competing in every aspect of the game in 27.

OLI AND MO Are not respected inside the club house. They point blame and dnt hv any accountability. They are entirely the blame of the shift of the team. You can love them, but there the problem! And rhe DeWitts hv lost focus if what made the organization great!

I have been around a long time . Yep I see things changing . And truth jim Edmonds is not the best baseball announcer . I’m not sure if it’s hard to find players who is good at announcing baseball games .but today it’s a whole lot different theses players mostly are making so much money so when they retire announcing baseball games isn’t there cup of tea . About wanted old ball players in and around the young players I’m not sure if jimmy wasn’t mis understood these veterans are not only useful but are loved by young players. But yes there’s a problem with mark because he was the hitting coach and stepped down after just the fire set year because he was to for from home . So yah I can understand he’s not wanted back

Meh I think there's zero truth to it. There's lots of alumni still around and in the org. He's just so self-centered he's bitter everyone doesn't fawn at his feet anymore.
A lack of winning doesn't help. It is all very complicated. The team has lost big hall of famers. I think they helped in the clubhouse culture that has gone away. A really big thing is ownership vs fans. They ran the team into the ground and now they are dealing with a fan base that won't put up with it anymore. Instead of admitting mistakes were made, the double down on they have done all they can and it's the players and the fans not coming to games. If an organization gets so arrogant as to publicly blame the fans, you know that what is going on behind the scenes is bad. Until Mo is gone and Bloom brings the team back, there will be this kind of stuff spew out. The team has decided to go young and cheap and have taken a stance of take it or leave it. They are tired of looking back at their past success and failures. They don't want any veteran telling them how far they have fallen.

Loved Jimmy as a player and really enjoyed him in the booth, very knowledgeable. But some of this sounds a little bit like sour grapes. Because he wasn’t brought back to the booth? Because he wasn’t considered for a coaching job? Me personally? I would need to hear some of these things from others. It does seem like ownership isn’t as invested in putting a winning team on the field, and that’s not good for anyone.

To be honest, I think he overtalked, and would spend sometimes an entire inning trying to emphasize one minor point. He had trouble editing himself and being more succinct.
Edmonds also seemed not observant and would miss obvious things. A bit of an airhead, not the sharpest tool in the tool shed.
    He needed to move on.

We've literally turned into the Oakland As.
