I was a senior in high school in Benicia in 92. Me and my friend Myk started putting on these shows and I got community service hours credits for it because the counsellor was awesome. A lot of great bands played there, shows were all ages and $3 to get in, which we paid out to the bands. I got the colored lights you see in there, and the PA if I remember right, from my boss at avalanche snowboards.
Green Day shows were always packed even when they were an east bay punk band. This was one of our craziest shows ever. The floor was moving so much I thought it was going to collapse.
Old days.
I was in elementary school I used to hang there everyday ping pong champ the counclers were so dope Monica and mark and thier boss I forget his name but MTV was good back then thanks for this Ben. Peace
It was a good show for sure. I remember that night well. Hi, Ben.
Hey Ben, its Will. Been a long while but would love to catch up. Think about those days a lot with you and Jess and Mike. Good times!
Epic. Loving hearing early GD stories. Thanks for putting on this show that I am now watching 28 years later :) And thanks to your counsellor!!
That would have been so cool. I used to go there as a kid after going to the city pool next door. I didn't know Green Day played there. I remember back in 2005 or 2006 leaving the 7-11 in Benicia and seeing Tre Cool walking in to 7-11 as I was pulling out. He was wearing a black suit and red tie.
Bless the guy who filmed this entire show
Metal Kid and also who uploaded it
Amen
Green Day fans are the best! So many complete shows from this era , crazy
Yeah. And there are some of these types of shows that are fully recorded and one and a half hours. Sometimes longer.
Why?
It’s incredible how tight Tré kept the whole band. His addition to the band was the missing piece they needed to become a worldwide famous band
To me this is the best era of greenday...
Of music
It's interesting to see pre-internet underground bands who are huge in the internet era.
uhh. because the internet is just real life, all centralised in one place. if it exists on the internet, it exists in real life and vice versa. this ain't the early days anymore, everything is connected.
@@KingBlonde Wow, you didn't understand a word of what he Said. And no, internet is not "real life".
Green day actually got big before internet really took off.
@@KingBlonde the most gen z comment i’ve read
93 was such a huge year for Al Gore to invent the internet as a first year Vice President.
I’m 48 years old and listened to Kerplunk today. Still a good record!
Always crazy to see the humble beginnings of legendary bands like this. They were topping the charts with Dookie 2 years later.
Welcome to paradise is still one of their all time greats and they played it so damn well. Except for being recorded with a garbage mic it sounds studio perfect
No wonder why this video is so great, old Green Day hits that were kind of eclipsed by dookie
Damn some people just have it. So much charisma and energy so young. It’s no wonder he/they blew up.
Its really true, you can just tell
* They
* They/Them
Going to Pasalacqua came on i was like Awwwwwww yeeaaaah

I was at this...my wife and I took turns going to see them and standing downstairs outside. They came out and they all took turns holding my son, Ian. Loved Benicia, Bronzed Seal...1st street.. camel barn.... if you were there...
SLG52 wow thats commitment. You took your son to an early greenday concert. How old was he at the time? I had to wait till my kids were at least 16 my wife wouldnt let them go any younger, something to do with their hearing or something, but i couldnt hear what she was saying😅
@@gregmyatt9932 haha my dad is taking me to hella mega this year (or next year cause of covid lol) and I'm 11, but I'm the greenday fan not my dad he just knows the names of a few of the albums and he only knows like 3 songs that aren't singles
Ah yeah, i miss the bronze seal all the time. I'm always telling my wife about how cool it was where people of all ages were friends and you always could find a friend there. I don't think the youth center is a youth center anymore. Starting in the late nineties the city looked at teenagers as outlaws by default. Dem were better days indeed...
the videos on my search were listed in this order "community center 1992" "woodstock 1994" lol. geez
How quickly things can change in the world of popular rock music, hey?
Mike was always so tight and crucial. So much sound from a 3 piece. Saw them live many times and always thought the perfection was a product of decades, turns out they always had it
He's very underrated as a bassist even to this day.
@@eddietheguy12 i mean his playing is pretty simple, wouldn't call his playing underrated as he gets plenty of recognition among fans of the pop punk genre.
@eddietheguy12 here it is, the ubiquitous _"underrated"_ comment which lives beneath every You Tube video - people have fuck all else to say...
@@aquarius5264 His melodies and feel are not average by any means, few bassists in rock can write great melodic lines that fit right in the pocket. Maybe simple at times but he’s a really well rounded player.
i think people in bands should watch this before their next show...
My band has a show coming up soon and I am constantly watching their old early 90's performances just to kinda see where a band a big as them came from. Also to see you dont have to have a perfect show to have a great show
I’m convinced the 90s are the best decade since whenever. Just an indescribable amount of angst and creativity. Where old and new met, and had a perfect baby. Any genre, any way. 2000s tried there best to pick up where they left off, but nothing could capture the purity , magic and rawness of the 90s . And I was born in 94’ ,fight me
I removed a few comments. For the first time on UA-cam, there will be one Green Day video with no negativity! No name calling, no bickering, just enjoy the music! :D
hey FUCK YOU man
just kidding i love the old green day stuff
you are a god dude
Hackie sack in the mall by the jock box between periods , great to see these sweet boys still rocking out!!!
Totally awesome choice man! Keep hate away from Green Day lol

Thanks👍🏻🤘🏻😁
Thanksgiving
They seem to move in fast motion, very talented,
Wait, they made Welcome To Paradise in 92!?
That's probably only a 60 person crowd. But for a punk show, that's fucking huge!!
Back in the day yea
No
And just a couple years later, they're playing in front of thousands. Crazy how life works out.
I'm watching this exactly 22 years later. Wow, everything exciting happened before I was born😫
I have no idea how old you are, but there have been a shit ton of exciting things that have happened, even if you only look at the last 15 years.
I'm 14, but I meant the kind of stuff that happened before the 2000s
Brisa Macias Sure, but even the last 15 years has been a very exciting time for music. And shows like this still happen. Bands playing this kind of show now will be the Green Days of ten years from now. The only thing is whether you're going to be a part of their local music community or not.
Very often it can be difficult to appreciate the value of something when it's right there in your face.... like the kids at this show. They would have had no idea they were seeing a band who would explode internationally, at an event many younger (or people form a different place) would envy them for....
Yeah I know that but before I was born, Dookie came out and everything!
Brisa Macias And before I was born there was the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix and the Sex Pistols. Every generation has its awesome stuff, you have yours too.
Goddamn, looking back you can tell they were going to be something special
Man, watching things like this really gets my heart pumping.
Same
A huge turn-on
I love how they knocked over the microphone, and then Billie just methodically switched over to Mike's side.
Time stamp?
@@matthewkinnard500 20:41
Goosebumps soon as they started 2000. They’ve come so far but always been so good
These fucking guys went from this to playing sold out auditoriums and arenas WITH THE SAME FUCKING ENERGY!!! Fucking legends, rock on
I love old videos of bands like this. Just before they get their big break and blow up. You know they had no clue they would be together 30+ years later, members of the rock and roll hall of fame, inspiring new generations of musicians...simply bad ass.
Going To Pasalacqua is just too great I swear
But the real question is...did that poor kid get his wallet back?
@@HolyCanoleyI believe that’s a member of monsula
Awesome. Takes me back to being a teen in the 90's going crazy at house parties, all ages shows, and youth centers like this.
This is 1 month before i was born. And 31 years later they are still a light in my life.
look how far they have come.
God this is the Green Day I really wanna see
Welcome to paradise is so established here. Incredible.
When they play Sweet Home Alabama it sounds like Somewhere Now, especially around 18:51.
Tristan Gorman I’m pretty sure somewhere now is supposed to be a throwback to disappearing boy
oh man I just JIZZD IN MY PANTS ! best greenday. ever.so sweet.
You can see that their style has carried on throughout their albums
I can smell that room.
If only I was alive back then );
(Btw ive lived in Benicia my entire life, never knew they ever were here!)
Id love to go back in time and show this band what they are in 2024
Good film quality for 92.
love it, this is what a call a real music, look how big energy, emotions they put in all these songs, I love it!!!
... he´s 20 there... he looks 15 xD
+Julien Verveer He still looks 15
jason cheney true that
Julien Verveer he's older than mike too!
@@tigg1972 no he looks his age
@@obliquesauce6741 Nah. He looks 35
He mentioned the trout dance!!!!!
Only the truest of Green Day fans get that
sewer trout!
me? i have not. but i do read cometbus, MMR and UGZ back in the days. i'm just familiar with the east bay scene, which GD was a part of because i lived there. Used to frequent 924 Gilman as a youngin' and still do once in a blue moon. for me it's just a bay area pride thing. most folks are proud of them.
Not you dude sorry, I was addressing the OP.
no prob! fans can get overzealous at times.
Jewish Milkman
I know you! You're from around Fermanagh, old school Green Day fan too, eh?
The Thing I Love About This Video Is That With The Camera Audio It Makes The Drum Sounds Way More Satisfying
The energy in don’t leave me is amazing
They were already dressed for success, great gig!
Any producer or manager who would be in the audience by chance, would certainly be amazed by the fact that they were not playing big gigs and recording an album then.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerplunk_(album)
They actually had two studio albums out by inde label Lookout Records at this time but yes they were not with a huge label yet
No matter what part of the video you skip to it’s like they’re always playing the same song
great isnt it
From youth center to Woodstock in 23 months 🤯
thanks for uploading!! It's funny that Billie Joe originally didn't want to be singer/frontman and yet he's so comfortable doing it. They've rocked since day 1
I love searching for their old stuff.
Awesome stage presence, great performers.
Damn. I was 22 in ‘92. Saw them play at a bar in Pittsburgh a couple years after this. I’m having a really hard time accepting that this was 3 decades ago. Holy hell.
It’s ok, you’re just very very old
During Christie Road, Billie and Mike are completely in unison with their bodies; they step back and sway forward in perfect time with each other.
they're just singing during the same parts...
Quelle fraicheur! Tellement rafraichissant! Merci pour la video
Thanks for this! We all appreciate you
Thanks for posting this!
I love their old footage. Thanks for sharing
thankkkk you for recordinng!!! this band become legendaryyyy
I love that the drums are super fucking loud in this video! It really shows how amazing of a drummer Tré is. Anyways, thanks for the upload!
Beautiful... Simply beautiful.
I fucking love it when the drums are too loud
Thank You for Thiszz 😁👍👍 year. 2023
This is absolutely amazing to watch!!!!!
witnessing greatness
Love watching these old videos of Green Day I love the rawness of it all!!
Why won’t UA-cam let me like this more than once
My fucking god the audio of this band in a small venue in the early days. Glad I got to see it three times at least.
This is my new reason to live
very,very nice..... tanks green day
Thank you for uploading this! I love GD's early stuff! I never thought id be able to see footage of them performing my fav songs!
God I love their earlier stuff and especially love it live rock like that just sounds better with the live sound
Wow, nostalgia for that amazing first album. Also for playing / moshing in venue's like that back in the day. How awesome. Thanks for uploading and brining back epic memories!!!
Wow. Just wow. Amazing. Whoever you are Sir or Ma,'am - thank you for filming this. Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable ❣🇮🇪♨️🎸🎤🥁
29.35 "Pasalacqua's right here in town" confirming that the song is about love in a funeral home
I played a concert in September of 1992 at Norwood School, the same bands music. If you look in the back it's a Norwood tree. They used the same tree for the cover of STP core. A Norwood. I'm well aware that's me in the video. I'm the ghostwriter for most of todays mainstream. I work every fourteen years on music. I grind my gears to find a need. You can find more recent photos of me @ San Holo Golden Vessel Vestal Ave and Grandson Overdose lyrics video on youtube. I haven't made a single cent on my music. 1,039 is the distance between the cities Green Bay and Jacksonville fla. I was watching a show on when I worked on it. Nirvana, and the original name for 1039 was On A Plain, Green Day - On A Plain. The tv show made me think about info, and how it never changes. A personal note to myself.
😔
So good, even then. Tight. Just saw them in Vegas. Legends.
Cheers to the guy who filmed this!
2000 light years away is probably my favorite greenday song
And two years later they played woodstock! Crazy to think about. I have the seen the video of them playing a show during high school lunch in 1990 and that was cool as well.

Believing in yourself and what you're doing with life DeAges you.
this is great
I saw the American Idiot tour and folks it was three plus hours of brilliance, energy and showmanship...
They're awesome.
There's always gotta be some kinda shenanigans when Paper Lanterns gets played live

You just made my life
Época boa.
That was really good 👍👍👍👍👍😜
Awesome
Great camera work. Even zoomed in on the guitar when Billie did the intro for At The Library. :)
Smooth and kerplunk 💚💚
green day is cool and inspired my improv music.
Literally celebrating my first birthday on this day!
Welcome to paradise sounds amazing
This is very similar to when I saw them on the Dookie tour in 94. About 50 people wedged into a tiny shithole club at the University of Alberta. The following year they came back on the insomniac tour and played a packed stadium to 16000 people. This is my favourite Green Day era, and I was really glad I got to experience it before they kinda shied away from the snotty pop punk that made them famous. I know that things change, but I'd sure love to see them on a tour playing the first two albums in their entirety as well as the new stuff.
Their Cleveland House of Blues show after the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was kind of like that. They played a bunch of old stuff with John then new stuff with Tre. I wish I had gone but I have no GD fan friends :(
Mike Hideous yeah I had same experience saw them just as Dookie came out in Pittsburgh. Arenas ever since
Mike Hideous same
I'm so sad that I wasn't born and missed all this... instead I'm born and grown up with autotune and fake artists... :( thank God green day released a new album last year
Mike Hideous The closest that they'll ever get to doing that is when they did their theater shows in late 2016. A few thousand people, so still way bigger than this, but small for them now, anyways. I was lucky enough to see one of them, and it was super rad. I would kill to time travel and see something like this though. However, at the small show I saw, they played Private Ale, which was pretty awesome.
Never huge into these guys but I can say I've always saw them go at it hard.
Pasalaqua was my fav song on that album, so fkng catchy
The "take one" at the end legendary!
Damn... They could have been huge! They have some really catchy songs.
These guys are very good. Even then.
This rules!! 🤘🥃
