- Sierra Hull performs the Grateful Dead's "Black Muddy River" at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2023. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions. Audio by Bill K.
I never knew that the dead had so many songs that translated so well into country and bluegrass. So cool and soothing.
Listen to the albums Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Might give you an idea why.
As the previous commenter pointed out, they definitely have albums that are for folk/country/western. Also, Jerry was a bluegrass musician. Check out Old and In The Way, it's Jerry, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, and John Kahn. In my opinion they are one of the best bands ever.
Also, Reckoning. That was the album along with American Beauty that got me into the Dead. Jerry and some of the early members had several various lineups playing jug band music doing various old timey songs with Jerry on banjo. You can find some of their early music on UA-cam.
Really?..
Absolutely 🌹
Sierra is fantastic.... touches the heart ❤❤❤
It’s so nice to see a surge in mandolin players of amazing talent. Sierra Hull & Chris Thile have long bright futures ahead of them. Beautiful song! I heard The Dead play it once
Check out Sam Grisman.
Experiencing Sierra's music live is very uplifting. We try to catch her performances often as possible. She truly seems to have a dear heart.
I really appreciate this page bringing us some of the most tasteful contemporary artists in well produced videos with terrific audio.
We appreciate it!
I thought you said terrible audio, and I was going to say you need new spea
Jerry would be proud.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Bluegrass no matter the era is in great hands with Sierra. What a master.
Wow, why did I start sobbing before she finished the first line?… fly on Jerry. Beautifully done ❤
sierra is mesmerizing. She's a gift to all
Stunning rendition to a fine Hunter Garcia sings. Thanks dear!
Great cover, Sierra has the voice on an angel.
Yes,please ❤
Every song I have heard her do with any configuration of musicians is always special.
The kids coming up now are keeping the vibe alive! NFA
I was here for this performance!! I’m looking forward to seeing Sierra again next summer!!
Sierra can bring the beauty out of any style or genre of music and she makes it her own🎵 it's going straight 2fav... right there with my favorite song she does which I believe is an original Best Buy🤘🏻. Amazing talent 4SURE.
"When it seems like the night will last forever,
And there's nothing left to do but count the years,
When the strings of my heart begin to sever,
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears,
I will walk alone, by the black muddy river,
And dream me a dream of my own,
I will walk alone, by the black muddy river,
And sing me a song of my own, sing me a song of my own." Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter
Sheesh this is good
Beautiful 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😊😊👌👍
yes!
Wow! Opening with the 2nd verse is such a power move. Well done. It's such a strong lyric. I love this song. You handled it well Sierra.
I need to see this girl perform at my daughter's wedding or hear her at my funeral!!
She can make ANY song her own.
When she covers a song, she owns it. When she writes a song, it hits. Bluegrass keeps going up while rock keeps sinking.
👍👍👍❤
It's a dream by Jerry!
Great performance by Sierra and her group of hand picked musicians
🌹
She is so hot. I fell in love the first time I heard her sing this .
0:26: She realizes she's sung the wrong verse. 1:26: Full send on the first verse. I've seen a couple other recordings of her doing this one and found it stunning, but really missed the harmonies on the chorus. Glad she's added them back. This song was really made for this format.
I was wondering if they did any dead songs.
Marquee set at Greyfox, don’t you think
This night will last forever.
Sierra do you have any of your own music?
Check out her most rcent CDs of originals "25 Trips" and "Weighted Mind." Her earlier CDs have a mix of covers and originals. She's currently working on another album.
