  • Ordered a K27 Turbo from Power Driven Diesel for my 90 GMC K3500. Almost a plug and play fit for the 5.9 cummins. Here is an update on my truck and a few mods I have made.

    I have a 90 3+3 12v swap. I used black (rv,boat)spray foam all through the cab, roof, and front fenders. It made a world of difference.

    I used (self-adhesive) Alubutyl in my small Toyota for sound deadening, it essentially makes thin metal sheets heavy enough so that they do not vibrate.
    Furthermore, I lifted the carpet and stuck a layer of "fleece" (non-flamable) between the carpet and the bare metal frame. Has a soft and comfortable feel to it now. I bet that the footwell-area has a lot of room for improvement in your truck as well.

      Thanks for the suggestion. One day I am going to pull the motor and coat the whole engine bay too.

    Love the 12v’s, had them in a few trucks I built. I will be putting one in my 98 Chevy 3500 after my 454 goes out. Who knows when that’ll be haha.

      @BL Dontmatter not failing but simply wearing out. Gas engines just don’t have the longevity of a diesel and when this one gets tired it’ll be time for a Cummins.

  • @tarnow07
    @tarnow07 3 роки тому

    I've heard a lot of the engine noise comes from the tappet cover maybe an aftermarket tappet cover and add some sort of sound deadener to it may help also heard good things about how much the aftermarket harmonic dampener works maybe that combo would help the wives experience not be so bad, mine kinda complains about mine also so I guess its a current trend.

    Cool build. Have you thought about installing a Gear Vendors Overdrive to improve your fuel mileage? Gear Vendors say it'll increase your mileage by 22 to 30%. They make them to fit Chev, ford and Dodge transmissions.

    • @goingofftherails9877
      @goingofftherails9877  3 роки тому

      Yes I have researched Gear Vendors. Its a big commitment to install one. Not just the cost of the unit , but driveline modifications and I've read that an oil cooler is needed for longevity . What have you heard or read about? like to talk to someone who has had one long term. Thanks for watching

    • @kerryrwac
      @kerryrwac 3 роки тому

      @@goingofftherails9877 I've heard them mentioned here and there, but I don't know anyone whose installed one. I think it's an interesting alternative to installing a 5 or 6 speed transmission. The old 4 speeds are a tough transmission.

    • @cadorseeliger3926
      @cadorseeliger3926 Рік тому

      Personal experience is that the gear vendors can cause massive amount of heat up if you're not careful. Pretty sure the nv trans have coolers that can be installed replacing the pto covers. If you pull all the time I'd not suggest it. If you're unloaded just cruising it's great. Can get 3ish mpg better at 70 with rpms in the 1400 1600 range depending on diff gears and tire size of course.

  • @badgerpa9
    @badgerpa9 3 роки тому

    Can you put a 12 volt heat pad on the filter base to help with your freezing? Horse mat on the floor may help with the noise, otherwise you can get sound deadening mat that you can put on the floor, firewall, doors skins, roof liner, etc to just soften it all around.

    • @goingofftherails9877
      @goingofftherails9877  3 роки тому

      Thanks for those ideas Badger Pa. one of those RV tank heat pads might just take care of the problem. Ive got one left over from the Caboose build that I can modify . Thanks

    How good is your turning radius with those tires, I heard these trucks got like a 53 foot turning radius

    Have you given any thought to insulating the cab with sound deadening in strategic areas?

    • @goingofftherails9877
      @goingofftherails9877  3 роки тому

      Hey Dan. Yes I did put dynomat. in all of the cab and some on the fire wall. I think some of the suggestions I've been getting are good ones but I need to pull the motor out completely and give the whole engine compartment some absorbing material.

    Thanks for the review of the BW K27. I have been considering it for my 12 valve. Why the FASS system on a 12 valve? I always considered it unnecessary complexity for a 12 valve. I bought a Dayco 93874 pulley alignment tool. It's awesome when fabricating custom accessory mounting brackets.

      Thanks for that tip on pulley alignment . With the flip of a switch on my AFC live, I can send tons of fuel through my upgraded P pump and the truck just lights up at about 1800 rpm. Don't think a stock fuel pump can deliver enough fuel like the FASS does. Its amazing how fast I can pass somebody on the Highway.
