Pump it Louder, I REALLY hope he doesn’t. The fandom is fairly comfortable for a fanbase at the moment, and every-time one of the big youtubers like Jack play a game their fanbase turns the games fanbase turns into landfill inferno. One of my worst nightmare is a big youtuber playing an older game series and having their young fanbase who wasn’t around at the time the game was widely played destroy the fanbases decent legacy.
*reapers are destroying earth* reaper 1: hey..jimmy is that you!? Reaper 2: oh my god bill! Long time no see! *they continue to destroy earth while deciding where to go for lunch*
3:45 "as if they're talking to each other while they're kinda destroying planets..." I can imagine Reapers are talking something like, "Hey Bob, we really need to do this more often!"
Maybe it's symbolism. The Reapers, harbingers of our destruction and extinction, is just the sound of a garbage lid. Garbage-trash-pollution-extinction????
if those beam were anti-matter one 3 second pulse would wipe out a city the size of New York and the anti-matter would react with anything in the stream like metal filaments so now not anti-matter. more like a plasma beam charged with protons.
despite the reapers are ultrafuckingly developed, they have shitty weapons and rely on spawns. Pffffffff. That's the only thing that makes it nonsense.
As far as i remember, the Thanix cannons used by many of the ships after ME1 (they should've shown them in ME3 but didn't for some weird reason), was using a molten alloy (iron-uranium-tungsten) as it's ammunition, similar to what Sovereigns guns did... Basically it was based on the Reaper cannons, and worked on the same principle... So no anti-matter...
+tristan vinglansky According to the codex, it's a "magnetohydrodynamic(whatever that means)" weapon which fires a stream of molten metal at a fraction of speed of light.
I just love how gigantic robots have these terrifying sounds, such like you see in War of the Worlds, and Mass Effect (and of course others). So awesome!
those sounds are so incredibly terrifying. scared the hell out of me in the game, and i don't scare easy. if i heard them in real life i'd probably piss myself.
@smish34 Wrong. As EDI said, a Reaper takes the essence of a species. Reapers are Organic/artificial constructs. A Reaper can "Die" but the technology remains active while the organic part decays. Besides, why would they change there methods of construction only for the human Reaper? That is why the Protheans were made into Collectors, because the Reapers were unable to create a Prothean Reaper.
The Harvest a large portion of the civilian population but mostly everything else such as centres of government and Military installations they simply waste. Arcturus station for one so I'd call it a 50/50 split on destruction and harvesting.
I admit they had some great sound effects in Mass Effect, especially the third. Definitely made the Reapers sound terrifying...plus the sound of their lasers was cool.
I never made the connection, but in the game 'The World Ends With You' there is a group known as the reapers too. Fairly similar purpose. "Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. Fail, and face erasure. - The Reapers.".
Why do people even talk shit about ME3? The gameplay was awesome, along with cool cut scenes. The ending wasn't even all that bad. Especially now that they extended each ending.
The Reapers are estimated to be over a billion years old. One can see a lot of conflict during that time. Even the Asari notice patterns and they can only live for a 1,000 years or so.
The sound of reapers in ME1, including Sovereign talking, actually especially Sovereign talking--"you exist because we allow it" (yes, that's off the top of my head--pure effin grade A genius. Can't say I remember the terminator reaper sounds from ME2, but looking forward to what you guys did in ME3.
@190shepard in war of the worlds the sound was more sustained though... like it was not intelligent communication but just a signal, in mass effect though its almost they carry more meaning
I always thought that the laser sound was kind of lame. The sound of a powerful laser, IMO, should be similar to a thunder. Lightning heats up and expands the air around it producing pressure waves that sound like thunder. The same, I think, would apply to a strong laser. Also, think how cool would it be to see this alien strange creatures that, at the same time, make such a 'natural' noise.
I can see how the tripods and reapers sound SIMILAR but just go listen to them right now...it's a long bass heavy sound the reapers have a much more pitchy, robotic sound
A LOT of their sounds are inspired by the tripods in War of the worlds. Both are very badass and terrify the shit out of me
jacksepticeye True, they're great sounds. You should make some Mass Effect gameplay Jack

When you realize Humanity's greatest enemy is the sound of a garbage can opening.
2:22 for the reaper sound explanation....you're welcome
Thanks good man
Thank you. Seriously.
The sound of the reaper is actually kindda similar with one of those "tripods" from war of the worlds.
I know. They probably used the same technique like Mass Effect.
Titi_nya No, War of the Worlds was made in 1960's (I think) and 2005 (I know this for sure). I think the sounds are really unique for both of them.
Catherine Summers Ohh, I see now. I guess now days with many people using technology, artificial items are "unnecessary" to be used for sound effects.
my toaster sounds like a reaper... it's the main reason why i don't use it.
Holly Sadler I AM THE VANGUARD OF YOUR TOASTRUCTION.
daPvta
I am the harbinger
Basically it's the Tripod Horn from War of the Worlds.

dont be a dumbass
*reapers are destroying earth* reaper 1: hey..jimmy is that you!? Reaper 2: oh my god bill! Long time no see! *they continue to destroy earth while deciding where to go for lunch*
"In the end it all goes back to the garbage can"
No truer words can be said about the ME3 endings I suppose.
Andromeda
I think the sequel will be much better now that the reviews made them pull their heads outta their asses!
you could just plug a talk box into a synthesizer and bass boost it.
or record a trash can you know whichever works for you
Are they my creators? Problematic. Leave me with my thoughts
3:45 "as if they're talking to each other while they're kinda destroying planets..."
I can imagine Reapers are talking something like, "Hey Bob, we really need to do this more often!"
I miss the series so much, bioware please guys I need this trilogy back.
its back
2:00
There is the reaper sound explanation or whatever. Skip the hoodie part and stuff, I guess.
reapers invented dubstep the only reason they attacked was because there idea was copyrighted
i want the reaper noise as a car horn so i can just drive around town layin on the horn to freak ppl out hahaha
Reaper sound = scariest sound ever
Maybe it's symbolism. The Reapers, harbingers of our destruction and extinction, is just the sound of a garbage lid. Garbage-trash-pollution-extinction????
the sound effects are great good job
u sir, are a genius!
Given the explosive tonnage of a reaper laser I figured it was an stream pure anti-matter mixed with super heated metal filaments
if those beam were anti-matter one 3 second pulse would wipe out a city the size of New York and the anti-matter would react with anything in the stream like metal filaments so now not anti-matter. more like a plasma beam charged with protons.
despite the reapers are ultrafuckingly developed, they have shitty weapons and rely on spawns. Pffffffff. That's the only thing that makes it nonsense.
Darth Nihilus We're talking so smart

"Yeah, I know Jeff. Wish I had more time on my hands but with a Wife and three kids its pretty tough. Oh hey a human colony....
WUUUUUUUUUB!!!"
Holy shit, sounds completely awesome!
Love that Sound! 4:16
Does anyone else start to freak out when you hear the Reaper scream when you scan too many planets and they come after you? It's makes me jump, lol.
I just love how gigantic robots have these terrifying sounds, such like you see in War of the Worlds, and Mass Effect (and of course others). So awesome!
@MythOfEchelon
Good god, THANK you.
The intro to ME3 is still epic to this day due to the sound design
I half expected him to say "oh, we just stole it from War of the World's aliens and changed it a little" lol Thank you Bioware
"Stop messing around and get back to work!"
- Harbinger
& where can I get this Sound Effect!? I NEED IT ON MY PHONE!!!
"Ever wonder were the haunting Reaper sounds comes from?"
No, but I do wonder WHERE.
One word collector's edition THE COLLECTOR'S
you killed it
Thanks
"in the end it all goes back to the garbage can" I lost my s*** when he said that! made me laugh so hard! XD
That is freaking awesome.
\\ when battling the Reapers, i guess it is safe to say that
"takes of glasses" IT'S TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH!
That just made my day ! :D
I wish I sounded like a reaper... :(
2:16 if DYKG sent you.
Thank you sir
I like to make my own fan-made reaper conversations. I love to have fun with the sound programmes :)
Brilliant.
Good Content
If you have the limited collector's edition for the original Mass Effect & you already knew this. They explain the sound on the DVD.
Reaper weapons (and the Turian Thanix Cannons) are a molten metal slurry that are fired with magnetic fields. So it's basically a molten rail cannon.
those sounds are so incredibly terrifying. scared the hell out of me in the game, and i don't scare easy. if i heard them in real life i'd probably piss myself.

Sovereign, Harbinger... and... Bob.... really fits the list of names indeed :P
Did u seen the speakers?? This guy making the sound of whole game on this speakers??
Those are good speakers.
@TheMeta88 well from the looks of it
it does look like they were inspired by the tripods to make the reapers
I thought the reaper-laser-thing sound was inspired from Star Wars: ATC
"In the end it all goes back to the garbage can" that's actually painfully true.
wow..i thought it was a sound of an old door opening and closing
He's still being secretive about the actual sound. What he did was sample a foghorn, pitch/time stretch it and lace it with a vocoder.
I admit they had some great sound effects in Mass Effect, especially the third. Definitely made the Reapers sound terrifying...plus the sound of their lasers was cool.
That would be a badass notification sound on my phone.
"So that is one creature I don't want to mess with."...You don't say!
@BlueonGoldZ I'm with you on that
so it seems the "strange Sounds" world wide seems to be revealed with that sound line on 3:09
-> Strange Sound in Kiev for example
"Like the reapers talking to each other while their destroying planets.....I guess"
Literally 40% of this video was them trying to sell merch.
4:07...the most epic moment that i saw in entire sci fi game in my whole life ♥
If I ever build a giant mech i'm putting that horn on it just to scare the shit out of everybody
Apparently they aren't lasers, but super heated streams of some element, metals or something.
"How do you stop something so powerful?"
You unite the known galaxy and shoot until you cant shoot anymore or it roles over and dies.
I never made the connection, but in the game 'The World Ends With You' there is a group known as the reapers too. Fairly similar purpose. "Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. Fail, and face erasure. - The Reapers.".
4:31-4:35. God i love that sound!
Am I the only one that's amazed that they get such nice sound design out of such a low cost/quality studio?
No no, I'm just staring at the N7 on your shirt... lol.
The sound of the reapers sounds so intense with skullcandy gi headphones :D
Oh my lord I just had a ME3 dream, the Fall of Earth scene I had... very scary
i had a dream the other night where a reaper appeared, honestly the most disturbing dream i've ever had
thats so fucking scary, far more scary than any other natural sound
Why do people even talk shit about ME3? The gameplay was awesome, along with cool cut scenes. The ending wasn't even all that bad. Especially now that they extended each ending.
The Reapers are estimated to be over a billion years old. One can see a lot of conflict during that time. Even the Asari notice patterns and they can only live for a 1,000 years or so.
yeah this is how my stomach sounds when im hungry
I've played a lot of games and the sound of the reapers have to have the most disturbing sound.
then the sword fleet arrives and Reaper 2 doesn't exist anymore.
Sound design interests me.
they could not get a brit to be on the video for EA UK?
@190shepard in war of the worlds the sound was more sustained though... like it was not intelligent communication but just a signal, in mass effect though its almost they carry more meaning
I want that hoodie.
Mike Kent, let's hook up and start an orchestra called the Reapercussions.
If I'm honest, I preferred the musical tone Reaper noise from Mass 1 to the foghorn-digital horn sound in Mass 3.
Tom Macdonald's song "Don't Look Down" brought me here.
I can see how the tripods and reapers sound SIMILAR but just go listen to them right now...it's a long bass heavy sound
the reapers have a much more pitchy, robotic sound
I wish this video was sound treated ;) Her voice could have used some eq dips in the higher reaches.
1:34 with transcribed audio. "Hamburger right now practices in the country beautiful perhaps at least"
The reapers are strange, sometimes they look like giant hands that grasp entire planets. Sometimes they just look like cuttlefish that shoot lasers.
electronic with a little of rave mixed in
digital horn sounds = OMG!
"So, we were really unsure what the Reaper laser sound effect would be, but then Inception came out..."
So basically, they used the horn ideas from the tripods in the latest War of the World film.
Hey bob do you think the husks would be willing to clean off all the squashed people ive stepped on
You'd probably piss or shit yourself in real life just from the tremors of the noise they make. lol
ME3 plus BF3 With the new Battle theme, The reaper.
Imagine that mix.
Yeah.. that name pops up once or twice in the games as well... I just like to keep it with Sovereign, the name used in the other 99% of the cases :)
