    30 yrs ago, Tamco was great, it was what the owner of the roofing company I worked for swore by. But he said in 20- 30 yrs they may not be.
    He told me that when a shingle is good, someone will buy them out or they will get a CEO that wants to justify their compensation package and increase profits, so they will start cutting corners.
    Now, it seems to be GAF at the top with what seems to be a good system.
    For how long, depends on them.

    I’d like to see a Review on Tamko’s new premium version of Heritage ProLine. The New series called Titan XT has a 160 MPH wind warranty plus they advertise better asphalt formula, better granules & a reinforced wider nail zone just like OC duration & IKO dynasty. I was always anti Tamko myself but here in Florida that was the only product that was readily available throughout the pandemic while all the others OC, Atlas, Certainteed & GAF we’re practically non existent with long backlogs & even some with temporarily discontinued colors. I ended up trying out the new Tamko Titan XT series and this shingle has earned some of my business. When I sell Tamko it’s only Titan XT. Though it’s still an asphalt shingle and I’m not very happy with all the manufacturers for all of them cutting corners somehow with some cutting more then others. I am impressed with Tamko stepping up there game with Titan XT series. The bundles even feel heavier making me feel that theyre actually starting to put some more asphalt back into there shingle. Let us know D?

    Always putting out great content.
    Family owned and operated since 1979 Tulsa, Green Country.
    We help the homeowner by choosing a Brand/Series that best fits their structure needs.
    All asphalt shingles have their issues. We know different brands of shingles in the same series hold up to weather differently, ( assuming workmanship, insulation is on point ) tamko has never been a heavy hitter with wind, they just don’t handle it well, but we love TAMKO because they have always been there for us when dealing with claims defect department. We just finished a 60sq roof 14yrs old. TAMKO PAID IN FULL 💯 NO ISSUES.
    We did another 60+ sq. TAMKO DEFECT 💯PAID No problems.
    GAF has been easy to work with as well, Malarkey not so easy.
    Doing a repair on a Malarkey, GAF not so easy either, these new shingles with all of them have changed the repair game completely, not like the old days where they popped right up.

    I would agree with a lot of comments on here. I mainly use Certainteed and have never had an issue. I’m a very particular roofer and select only quality products to install. As a small company, I refuse to install GAF, Tamko, and IKO. The area I live in, Midwest Indiana, put a class action lawsuit against IKO and won. IKO, even then, only paid out $500 per roof. GAF are commonly used with companies here that are known for poor quality and it’s common to see shingles delaminating as soon as one year after installation. You’ve said enough about the poor quality of Tamko. I need not elaborate more.

  • @pinnacleroofing9841
    @pinnacleroofing9841 Рік тому +6

    Tamko, IKO, etc are just not worth the hassle (I even think GAF has gone downhill). Why you feel the need to save $7 a sq on a $20k roof is beyond me, it's just not worth the headache. I've been open 15 years and have NEVER had a warranty call. Several years ago I bought a competitors customer list when they went out of business and for the first 2 years I ONLY got warranty calls from them - no wonder they decided to quit.
    OC, Malarkey, Certainteed, a couple others are all top tier and offer great piece of mind, I personally settled on OC but pick something you can stand behind and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, will stand behind you!

      Honestly, we are here in the epicenter of Hurricane Ian. New and old roofs had terrible damage with IKO shingles. 1 year old and even 1 month old roofs had 7 bundles of shingles blown off. Not including the 4 bundles of cap. These were 30 square roofs. Weve repaired Tamko as well and the shingles do amazing. 5 shingles on a 40 square. Same age and same installers as the IKO brand. 3 bundles of cap gone. Owens Corning also fairs more damage than Tamko. I was surprised myself. We did 3 houses with 2 bundles of shingle and 5 bundles of cap. I myself am installing OC on my roof at the moment but I dont understand the hate Tamko gets. Weve been on around 80 roofs to do repairs after Ian and Tamko shingles have faired the best.

      @@ernestomendoza3570 duration is better than iko dynasty in my opinion. Because the nail strip is on the face of the shingle rather than the back side.. unfortunately where I am in Canada they stopped supplying duration. Iko is very competitive and I think the salesman are hard at work.. I appreciate everything about duration even the cap was good. But IKO is a good comparison. Especially when you look at the ridge cap options. Manufacturers like GAF have a really thin ridge cap. I still have lots of oc ridge caps in my yard I will probably not get to use because I haven't seen any oc for 2 years.. not a fan of BP.. I prefer Iko where I am at now a days. We get high winds so I only install dynasty.

    I do agree it's not a good product anymore. I've been roofing 22 years and still install with my guys. I remember when I started roofing it was the predominant shingle used in my area. About 2005-2006 is when everyone stated to notice the weight had been cut dramatically on the shingles and the shingle weren't consistent. Everyone still used them because they were cheap. As for as using them anymore , we don't. I gave up on them as a quality manufacturer when they were refusing to honor warranties especially to a few of my customers who were retired military. We had to fight them for any type of help. It was heart breaking.

    Over the last year, my company has uncovered over 200 homes with Tamko roofs less than 2 years old that have to be replace. New construction loves to use them and they start to have issues out here usually after 3-6 months. Every single time we see it fail that fast its Tamko, and probably 80% of the time Tamko denies any fault when we initially report it. It's to the point the attorney we work with has built a template for his filings with Tamko to force them to honor their warranty or face yet another lawsuit. They've had class action lawsuit after class action lawsuit for it but still deny fault.

    I was at a resale/salvage store where they have a ton of shingle’s for sale at almost half price. Tamko, OC, and I think one other brand. In the store I asked a question about them, and nearby was a customer who answered my question about the shingles. He’s a contractor, of 40 or so yrs, and said Tamko is the best.. he uses is consistently, in fact was there buying some. So I recommended it to my husband, and he went and bought them. Not yet installed.. now I am worried! He and his amateur buddies are doing the job.. half of the old garage, fortunately.

    Tamko has a plant in Joplin and probably 90% of builders and roofers in southwest MO uses it because it is cheap. Great for our location in that area because there are always roofs that need to be replaced that are 5-7 years old and in that situation homeowners are excited to buy better quality. In kansas city and st louis you rarely see Tamko because it has such a poor reputation.

    • @theroofstore
      @theroofstore Рік тому +1

      Hi Patrick, follow a clear path of escalation. 1. make an appointment with the roofing company (management preferably) that installed it and state your observation. 2. ask the roofing company to pull the records of when they ordered your roof materials list from their supplier (most likely their P.O.# will be your address). 3. confirm that the installation was done according to manufacturer standards (in order to file a manufacturer's defect, you have to show that the installation was done EXACTLY "by the book"). example: # of nails per shingle; proper of spacing of cap nails on underlayment; Underlayment offsetting 6 ft on endlaps over hips, etc.. 4. Most likely it's a manufacturer's defect, just hope they don't ding you in the unlikely event the manufacturer has a way out due to a disclaimer. As long as the roofing materials were procured through "proper channels" you'll be ok. Also, if you win the warranty claim on defective materials, you will have a choice on which roofing contractor you choose. Hopefully you choose the same company that installed them, as long as you are happy with their service. If not, Dmitry has a company called Directorii where you can get guidance on a new roofing company to choose from. Have an awesome day!

    Been roofing in NE Oklahoma since ‘87, no I am not a fan of TAMKO for the reasons you stated. It’s my understanding that TAMKO was the first manufacturer in this region to make laminated shingles widely available and I think they’ve been relying on their “pioneer” image for way too long rather than putting a focus on quality control and
    R&D. Matter of fact, their name is an acronym for this region where they first focused their efforts… (Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma). They have recently started changing their focus I believe so let’s hope they improve their product. 👍

      @@DavidSummerly I live in Virginia United States they don't even sell that brand here I have to go to a special materials dealer to get them they don't sell them here in Virginia but whenever I do buy them from that dealer they're literally the best shingle six inch exposure two different sealant bands and when you stack the bundles and increments of three to make a pallet the cube is perfectly cubed that way a lot of weight wouldn't cause defects in the bottom shingles that has to hold most of the weight hopefully you can understand if you don't sorry buddy you got some research and learning to do

      @@mikeylopez9625 thanks for breaking it down for me. Was just genuinely curious. I used to see them being transported in Colorado but people rarely mention or even know about them. I cover Virginia & 12 other states for Euroshield ♻️ Rubber Roofing if I can ever be of assistance.

      @@DavidSummerly you said you was generally curious but your comment said "based on "....nd that's an argumentative statement... There is no other shingle in the world that has a sealant strip under the common Bond I don't mind breaking it down but when you said "based on".. I was like oh yeah time to argue for my favorite shingle
