I like the perspective of seeing work from the angle of "What gifts do I have, and how can I help others" vs. "What job gives me the satisfaction I'm looking for;" not that the satisfaction is inherently bad to look for, but one mindset is definitely more self-focused than the other, so it's definitely worth considering as a measure of one's heart state when seeking and praying for opportunities.
I struggle to figure out what career path to choose. I’ve hated every job I have had and only go to work because I have bills to pay. I don’t know what I’m good at or what would fit my personality. I was a great athlete but now I’m too old to even consider getting paid to play a sport. What other people tell me I’m good at or what I should do, I absolutely hate doing. I just don’t think I’m good at anything, and the things I’m half decent at I still mess up and they wouldn’t even pay enough to cover the cost of living.
Praying things improve for you. I have the same sentiments regarding my job and career options (specifically due to A.D.D). I too feel trapped in my job. Much prayer is needed.
A colleague of mine just got his dream job offer. Before that, he served humbly in an almost deadened position that he over qualified. Seek the kingdom of God first by giving a good testimony in the current job. God will help you fulfill His plan for you.
Is really discouraging how so many say "Luther would say this", or "Luther taught this". Are we of Luther or Appolos? What does the BIBLE say? Let the Holy Spirit lead you, not Keller, or Luther. Jesus, Lord, my King what is your desire for my life?
Yeah, the Bible is the only authoritative source. Luther isn’t God’s word. That would be like quoting Gandhi, or Musk, and saying they say x. They’re human, and their words are fallible.
Really didn't help me much. I worked past 20 years as a baby teacher I love it not too many people handle what I do but several times a yr I get down and upset about what wasn't meant to be a career but turned into one. I felt trapped it's hard to start fresh doing something else. I'm still doing the same job cuz I feel comfortable. I can't say I'm doing God s work especially if I'm not 💯 happy with it. I'm feel lost.
I think one of the points Tim is trying to make is that sometimes we won't like what we do, but it is still God's work. You may not feel called to it, and I would encourage you to pray about pursuing your gifts, but in the meantime take heart, because everything you do can be done to God's glory. Your job as a baby teacher serves the Lord well even when you don't like it.
I work as part of the cleaning staff at our towns hospital and the work isn’t bad but boy do cleaning staff get treated like dirt. I could go on about how other departments demean me and the others but it won’t help. I pride myself in doing a good job but to mostly everyone there, that doesn’t matter. I’m currently looking for different work and it ain’t a give me that’s for sure. All my applications so far have been fruitless but I have faith God will get me where I belong eventually.
I will pray for you right now! I'm so sorry they treat you so badly. As you do it for God and not for man, you'll receive a reward from HIM for your work (Colossians 3:23-24). God bless you for all you do!
What if that job is physically taxing on your body meaning it’s unbearable ex: lifting heavy items consistently to where you keep getting hurt. But it’s the only job God has provided at the moment.

I work and I am depressed. I hate my job. I have 2-3 different bosses telling me what to do. I have a workload that isn’t manageable in an 8 hour day. I tell my manager and he passively blows it off and expects me to what I can. My job title doesn’t match what I do and the raises I get are only .010-.20 every time.

may we work well for you Lord no matter what the work we do is

This morning, I asked God to help me figure out how I should plan my career... Voila! Thank you God for speaking to me through your pastors.
How did your career turn out?

It sounds more like trading/working for it. Tbh
