This is such a good idea when you can't get away, but you want to sketch something out of the familiar! It's always hard to balance what we know (or think we know) about the subject with what we immediately, abstractly see. We think using some long, continuous lines really works here, and helps add fluidity to a contour that has a lot of abrupt angle changes. This is great coaching for artists who need to loosen up a little!
Your book just arrived April 23 SO INSPIRING.not to be boring,my hand does not work as it should.I drew all the stuff on the table with joy as well as struggle.❤😊
It is always fun to look back on your first efforts. I always advise friends to keep their early work to show just how much they progress over the years.
Thank you so much! I was looking for simplified way to draw and your instruction came up. Exactly what I needed, so relaxed and clear, almost therapeutic. Thanks a lot! Heel hartelijk dank!
Thanks for sharing all your tips and work. I m learning so many things about sketching and I just love the way you explain the importance of drawing without thinking too much. It s true. It helps to do a little every day and not pay attention to too many details.
What fun! I love the WindowSwap site! I can travel the world, now! Or at least parts of it. I so enjoyed how you indicated the bricks with lines and color marks. So alive! Thanks, as always, for sharing!
This was so much fun to watch. I would have done the whole building, but just seeing the rooftop being a focus is so much more interesting. Always an inspiration. Btw, I just finished reading your book, that I bought recently. So encouraging!
Hi Koosje ! What a simply yet charming to draw ! You always amaze me how you find different subjects to paint with various techniques and styles ! Wish you more and more creative ideas ! Have a great week ! ...warmest regards....Lorraine 💕❤️🎨
Thank you, Koosje. This looks like a lot of fun, and I love the result! ☘️ Bonus tip for my fellow lefties: work from right to left. Less smudging, and you can actually see what you've drawn and where you are going instead of essentially working blind. Bonus bonus tip: turn ringbound sketchbooks upside down so the rings aren't in the way of your drawing arm.
Great video and an excellent recommendation. I've started using window-swap and actually uploaded a video. I like the way you simplify and make art accessible for us that are just starting out. Thank you.
I love this video. Not only is the window swap a great tool on those days when time or weather keeps you inside but the quickness and confidence you go at it seems effortless.
Loved this video! I love window views, so I'm so happy that you shared this. I'm going to find a lovely window (hopefully, an English garden!) that I can draw. Also, I'm almost done reading your book and it's just so fun and wonderful. I've drawn in my sketchbook 4 times this week (which is a lot for me) because you're inspired me so much! Thank you! 🥰❤🤗🌸
Hi Koosje Finally I got round to sketching! Yay. All was going well, I was doing it daily but then…. I did a sketch and I was really happy with it! In fact so happy with it, it scared me and now I have a block about it and can’t seem to get through this block I have. Sounds crazy huh? Think this block is scaring me as I don’t think I can do another drawing as good! I really did surprise myself with my sketching and now can’t pick up my sketch book, any suggestions would be greatly received…. 🙂xxx
Maybe you could set as a goal: "today, I am going to make a really bad drawing". That sounds simple and kind of ridiculous, but it WILL take the pressure off. It takes away the idea that you need to top your last drawing and that you need to compete with yourself. Go and make something ugly, grabbing all the colorful tools you can get your hands on, and PLAY. The result is supposed to be bad, but also, you'll be loosening up again and maybe you'll even have fun.
Great

I love the bold marker approach! I’ve only been using fineliners in my drawings but now i want to use the thickest market i find to experiment 😍
