    On occasions, the leather hides come out from the tannery with wrinkles and folds in some areas.
    It also happens that leather hides are wrongly packed by some suppliers. It is an error to wrap up a leather hide in two or more folds as if it were a package. Many folding marks would appear after disassembling the package. Perhaps if this leather is used on car seat as time goes by it would vanish. But if you need to recover door panels or dashboards these marks will not disappear. If you would stretch the leather anyways some shades would be left.
    To not waste this material is necessary to recuperate it. As shown in the video a 'steam iron' is useful to erase those awful wrinkles and folds.
    The hot steam works out as a softener and vanishes immediately not letting wet areas.
    I hope you find this information useful!

    AMAZING. I just bought two really nice, rustic looking leather chairs. I took the insert out, ironed it flat. Then fixed the leather in the same way you did. Much appreciated.

      Si ayuda mucho, pero es preferible comprar pieles/cueros que no esten con dobleces. Es un craso error doblar las pieles/cueros y ponerlas a la venta en una tienda. No es muy facil quitar las marcas que quedan. Lo correcto es enrollarlos en tubos de carton o bien colgarlas en un 'potro' de una manera pareja.

    Thank you Caesar. I tried this before but on the right (finished) side. I was afraid to damage the leather. I never thought to try on the suede side. After installing the cover I tried to use a heat gun on the wrinkles and it seemed to help but it wasn't wrinkle free.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +6

      In fact, after installing a cover it is not so easy to erase sturdy wrinkles. Some other kind of creases easily disappear. Heat makes the leather shrink. We have to be very careful or could burn it or make it brittle as cardboard.

    Quick question--My wife has a pair of tall-shaft boots that have similar wrinkles. Will this procedure also work, though the cloth would be laid on the finished side of the leather?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому

      I suppose, the method would be slightly different. I have never tried with boots, sorry.
      I have found a youtube video...hopefully, you could use same method used on a leather jacket.ua-cam.com/video/N9xz26FgK4I/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo
      Perhaps, to do the process on the boots you would need to refill the inside with some cloth or discarded newspapers giving the rounded shape.
      After having it ready you would start doing what Mr. Bruce does on the video. I would recommend a medium heat. Do a test beforehand on a piece of rag ironing it over the craft paper.

    After installing my leather cover I had some soft wrinkles. I followed the exact procedure you taught me where you sew the foam to the leather along the edge and then again 8mm in from the edge. I see other upholstery videos where the person will spray glue the leather to the foam. You never do this. What is your opinion of spray gluing the leather to the foam? I am afraid of future problems or it won't look good. Thanks /John

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, I also have realized some car upholsterers glue the leather/vinyl to the foam. Different well known car factories do not use this method and I follow their rules.
      Occasionally, it could cause wrinkles. I only thoroughly glue down the 'fabric backing' to the foam if I use 'muslin'. These materials both foam and backing come already well 'bonded' ready for sale.
      I agree with master trimmer Brent Parker who gives us some useful tips:www.thehogring.com/2017/04/06/upholstery-tips-from-brent-parker-motor-trimming/

      @@Cechaflo good article. Brent Parker says gluing leather to foam will lock in any wrinkles. The wrinkles will not work themself out of the seat with use or time. Doing it your way with no glue allows wrinkles to flatten out with time.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 роки тому +1

      @@johnwoolfrey5093 I also think that pieces of leather could be glued down over its whole surface provided we use a very soft glue and the leather is firm and even with no wrinkles.
      These seat cover manufacturers glue the leather to the foam and the outcome is good: ua-cam.com/video/ij1hhG3N4Lo/v-deo.html

    Does this work for un tumbling leather?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 роки тому +1

      It is advisable to preserve leathers on cardboard or plastic rolls to avoid creases which later on are obvious almost forever. It is a mistake to fold them over or hang them on hook hangers.
      Wood horses are also useful to place them over.
      The tip I am showing is useful but we cannot trust so much.
