  • A stuck self-timer in a Compur #00 Shutter. The Compur #00 and #0 shutter will often jam because the self-timer is stuck. This video shows how to disassemble the shutter to access and lubricate the stuck self-timer.

    I fixed one up myself. It was a Zeiss Ikon Compur-Syncro. This is one of the hardest to repair camera complex I've ever seen. It took me nearly three weeks to repair and 15+ hours to fully understand, what everything does. It's important to take breaks when repairing those things, keeping your head cool saves you a lot of time.

    Thank you so much for making this video. I am working on ILEX Universal and the shutter sticks closed some times. With your video that help me get a better understanding how these old lenses work.
    Well this old lens now is 100% working order now. It has not worked since the 1960s.

    Hi and thank you again for sharing your great works, a few weeks ago I asked for adjusting copal shutter no1 , and you replied it ( thanks again) , I went further and I could tune low speed( 1-1/15s) of my shutter (I made a device for measuring shutter). but from 1/30 to 1/400s my shutter does a same around 1/90s speed. if it's possible for you guide me to fix this problem also. thanks again

      @FixOldCameras  8 років тому

      +Sohrab Tavakkoli Very good to hear of your progress. Check to make sure the speed cam follower is staying engaged with the speed cam through out its range. Also... Could you share with us a description of your "device for measuring shutter"?

    • @sohrab.tavakoli
      @sohrab.tavakoli 8 років тому +1

      +Fix Old Cameras thank you again, yes sure, I make something arduino based( microcontroller) that uses a IR transmitter and receiver, it will measure the time it beam passes through the shutter, I'm not sure if it's the correct method, if you're interested give your email address and I will share every details with you and if you're not familiar with microcontrollers I will help you making one. I'm not sure if I know the speed cam and other things you said, I will google them for some images :)

    • @sohrab.tavakoli
      @sohrab.tavakoli 8 років тому +1

      +Sohrab Tavakkoli if the speed cam is the circular plate with various cuts that some pins engage with it and it's the part we should rotate for changing shutter speed ,it engages with all the pins. I bought my shutter second hand and a part had been broken and welded. is it possible to share with you some pictures of the part, and that will be very easier for you to know the problem, I'm sorry for asking lots of questions, in my country there is no professional places for fixing these kind of shutters and I found that fixing it by myself is more reliable.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  8 років тому +2

      Well... first off thank you for sharing your shutter speed tester design. If you go to the web site affiliated with this channel you will find a camera repair link, once there will you find a contact page for forwarding further information on your tester. If the design is simple and economic so other subscribers could emulate it, I might be able to feature it with appropriate credit to you.
      As for you shutter issue. Could it be that your shutter tester is not reading the faster speeds correctly? You should be able to follow the progression of speeds with the eye alone. Hold the shutter up to a light source and run the progression at wide open aperture and also completely stopped down. You will have to study the action to see the changes in lever positions as the speeds are changed. Look for disconnected springs and levers not engaging. If you have access to a working Copal shutter of any size that would be very helpful to train your eye to the function of the mechanism. Fix Old Cameras will feature a Copal 1 shutter in future videos.

      +Fix Old Cameras Thank you, I will make an instruction on making the device and I'll share it with you in the way you described. the device I made is very more powerful than 1/400s , think about pulses in scale of couple micro seconds! thank you again for the tips and guides.

    Great video and enjoyed watching your channel very much! I am currently learning how to do servicing on old film camera. Is there a possibility you can do a self timer jammed fix or servicing on a Voigtlander Vitomatic II 50mm F2.8 Color-Skopar, Prontor SLK-V ? I recently got one of these old beauty but the self timer seems to be stuck and not released the shutter properly. It appears as though the self timer gear is moving (I can hear the timer clicking) but it stops and run intermittently. As I am new to this, I am just not sure how to dismantle the lens unit properly to reveal the mechanism and service the camera. Any advise would be much appreciated or a video servicing the Voigtlander Vitomatic II would be very helpful indeed. Thanks.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому

      The Vitomatic II is such an elegant little camera to use other than the film sprockets winding the shutter. However, unlike its predecessor, the Vito II, to access the shutter of the Vitomatic II is not easy or even elegant and might even be considered tricky. A video of this camera would be fun, but might be a long time in coming. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. If you are wanting to get started on the repair sooner than later, than the acquisition of the Vitomatic repair manual might help you with the disassembly of your camera. There are some websites that make copies available of vintage camera repair manuals.

    • @danielmok2438
      @danielmok2438 7 років тому

      Thanks for your advise and comment. I will search for the repair manual for the Vitomatic ll to start with.
      Do you normally use any specific tool to test the accuracy of the shutter speed and how do you go about doing so ? Lastly what type of lubricant would you recommend for putting around the escapement area? I am planning to use 90% isopropyl alcohol to flush clean the shutter as suggested at some point - well after the successful attempt to dismantle the camera first of course :)

    I love your vids, very detailed :-) I am currently having trouble with the Seiko 653e shutter for Mamiya RB67 lenses. i have searched high and low to find out how to fix the T speed setting. When fired it should stay open until the speed ring is moved towards 1 sec. My T speed fires like the 1/30 speed it opens and closes - do you have any tips? i'm fairly good with micro mechanics but this one is getting the better of me :-) Thanks in advance :-)

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  8 років тому

      Check the spring connection of the T setting lock lever. It is the one that is kicked out when the cam of the speed ring makes contact when turning out of the T set position.

    • @FixOldCameras

      The slow speed escapement is likely the culprit.

    hi Mike , well first of all a lot of thank you for your videos and explanations , , i would like to make you a question, about rolleiflex 2,8c that have a Shynchro-compur shutter , the problems is one of the iris blades is out of the position and so stick all the diafragm moviment , and the questions is , need i remove all the shutter elements from the front to acces to the blades or can i remove the like a conjunt (block) thank i hope you understand mu bad english, , best regards

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому

      If the diaphragm blade is reacting independently of the other blades, than it probably has a broken cam following post and has slipped from the cam of the diaphragm ring. To access the diaphragm assembly the shutter base plate does need to be removed. The shutter base plate is held in place with screws that come up through the back of the shutter housing so the shutter unit will need to be removed from the camera body in order to access the shutter plate screws. Once the shutter plate is removed you will see that the shutter blades are attached to the shutter plate assembly and the diaphragm blade assembly is attached to the shutter housing.

      My Prontor S shutter was sticking and I was thinking about trying to fix it. Then I found that the cocking lever was rubbing, just a little, apparently bent from 60 years of being pulled back while cocking. I tried to bend it so slightly that I'm not sure I did, and it seems to have worked. Either that or it just worked loose from my screwing around. I'm just glad I didn't try to take it apart. I love the mechanical elegance of these old cameras, but I'm not good at putting things back together once they're apart.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  7 років тому +1

      Mechanical elegance is a great phrase. To learn to reassemble such things... take only a few things off, study their purpose, then put them back in place... take a few more off and study their purpose too, then put them back in place... it is of course redundant, but by doing the disassembly and reassembly in this manner you will familiarize yourself with the workings of the shutter. It is good to hear of your successful "tweak".

    I have an old 135 Symmar S in Compur 0. The lever that opens the blades ( for viewing ) is stuck and the blades do not open. What can be the problem please? The shutter cocks and fires and the aperture blades seem to work fine. Thanks for your help in advance. Regards.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  4 роки тому +1

      The shutter will likely need to be open up so that an investigation into the cause of the blockage can be determined. It is tempting but not advisable to apply a little extra force to"pop" it free. You could end up doing irreparable damage, so it would be best to remove the cover plate, reinstall the speed cam and see if you can follow the functionality of the lever.

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 4 роки тому

      @@FixOldCameras Thank you for your kind reply. I had opened the shutter and investigated the lever. For some reason the park position of the notch is so that the peg does not slide inside of the slot and hits the side of the notch, perhaps the pivot is worn out. I have left it as it is seeking to find a working shutter to house the lens .
