    Thanks for the vid. My rolleicord 2c 1939 9000 build will be fine again. Despite the slight haze and 3 air bubbels in the taking lens. Fun!

    A brilliant video, after watching several of these I was pleasantly surprised to see the reassembly process as well, so thanks !

    I find it fascinating that these shutters were made in a time that there were no computers or CAD design or anything. They work like a fine watch. Its amazing.

      My sentiments EXACTLY...ever since I started watching Chris' videos back to back a month ago. I believe he's retired now, atleast for customer repairs...that's very sad. He needs to get his arse back to work for the sake of us old camera users who are also old 😁

    Chris, I just want to say thank you very much for all of these videos but especially for this set. I just received a Zeiss Ikonta with a Compur-Rapid shutter that was not working about a week ago and this set of videos was very valuable to me! Thank you again sir! Mine is all good now.

    Six minutes in and already I’m at the point of thinking… “I’ll never get this back together again” and all the bits would be scooped up and dropped into a cardboard box or biscuit tin and shoved in a drawer for ten years.

    I had a Retinette with a Compur Rapid shutter similar to this one. The aperture blades would not open all the way at all and I could figure out why until I took a look at the case. It was cracked and bent to the point where the control ring couldn't move all the way around. I took a flat punch and started tapping on it in certain places until it was flat'ish again. I'm surprised to this day that it worked perfectly. Usually a cracked case means death for the shutter.

      This is something I've seen on many cameras. Usually it means that the camera has been dropped on its nose. If the camera was in its leather case at the time, there will be no external marks to reveal the cause of the problem. Often the fault cannot be diagnosed until after the shutter has been stripped and cleaned, and you then discover that things still don't move smoothly!

    Hey Chris - have you ever repaired a stuck shutter on an Agfa Isolette I with the Vario set?

    hello, i am wondering if compur shutters are all ‚similar‘. I just bought a plaubel makina iiir and would like to service it myself whenever it needs servicing. Because it has a compur rapid shutter, i was thinking of finding some old broken cameras with compur rapid shutters and practice with them.. Is that a good idea, or do i actually need a specific type of shutter(or the actual makina shutter)?

    • @ChrisSherlock
      @ChrisSherlock  2 роки тому

      That Makina uses a larger size of shutter than this one. The principles are the same, but the details will differ. It can't hurt to practice on another shutter so you will get a feel for the work required.

      @@ChrisSherlock do you have a suggestion on which cameras use a similar shutter to the makina?

      I have retired now, so I'm only repairing my own cameras, sorry.
