- Servicing the Synchro-Compur shutter from a Linhof camera.
Consumables used servicing shutter and lens assemblies:
Naphtha (cigarette lighter fluid), or occasionally CRC Heavy Duty Lectraclean. Lenses cleaned with normal domestic glass cleaner.
Parts are lubricated Rocol Dry Molybdenum paste, MicroLubrol Helimax XP helicoid grease, graphite powder, or graphite grease as needed.

very interesting! I think this shutter is called „Synchro Compur 1-MX“ in the manual.
My Plaubel Makina IIIR has a very similar shutter, with the exception that the self timer, viewing mechanism and diaphragm are missing.
I always appreciate watching your work, it helps me prevent stupid mistakes and i find that i always learn something new!:)

About this weird, poking-out spring: I'm not 100% sure, but many of these shutters do have extra springs, that only got cocked in the highest speed setting (1/400 or 1/500) by the main timing wheel. These springs put extra load on the whole mechanism, resulting in a higher shutter speed, I think, this might be exactly, what this spring is supposed to do.
About the X-M lever: I would highly recommend to lock this lever in the X-position, whenever possible... These shutters can be a proper pain in the hoop,.. if you accidently move this lever to the "M" position, then work with flashlight, and finally end up with blank film, though the flash was firing every single time, you released the shutter... Particularly with these kind of shutters, it happens very easily to accidently moving these levers to the wrong sync setting, without noticing... I learned it the hard way... ;)
From memory that spring turned out to pre-load the 'B' lever or some other task of that nature. It certainly was meant to stick upwards and contacted the shutter speed settings cam plate at the required point.

When I first saw the Swispers cotton bud box I thought I'm not the only one to pull apart shutters and then resign them to the Swispers box and now ...its at the doctors being fixed. I have exactly the same 210mm Symmar in front of me with the exact same problem. it basically works but not T and B, the shutter doesnt open in that positions. I also have that odd spring sticking up there..with your great videos I was able to repair three Rapids but I´m a bit concerned to disassamble this one

@@unlearningcommunism4742 I solved the problem (T and B). It was a fault in the wiring of the way overcomplicated trigger! Those Symmars seem almost like a bad development imho.
@@ast3663 I'm currently embarking on a similar adventure, in my case the shutter isn't latching when cocked. One thing I have discovered is that odd spring is meant to be there :-D When you go to 1/400 it gets tensioned by the speed setting ring, so the inner release lever has more tension on it.
but you are talking now about the 400th speed spring right? I noticed for that to work properly the shutter speed cam ring has to be installed, otherwise the 400th speed spring doesnt engage correctly. But I was talking about the main shutter cocking lever. I noticed that under that lever is another flat latch that has to move free, so that was the problem.
@@ast3663 right, yeah there are a ... lot of springs in there :-D Round about 17:14 in Chris' disassembly above he's puzzled by a spring which is just seemingly sticking up, and he's trying to work out where it goes. It is actually _meant_ to stick up, and it gets tensioned by the speed selector to put more force onto the secondary shutter release (that lever that hooks onto the the cocking lever)
Sir, could you help me please? My shutter is the same and it’s jammed, although after remove the front lens and the aluminum plate, can’t figure out how to remove the round metal plate that is above the speeds dial. And can’t see this on this video or at the 4th video on the assembly procedure. Thank you!
My linhof synchro computer, B is not triggered when released. It's like 1/60 of a second. Sometimes pressing the shutter does not respond, and you must wind it up again. After releasing it, the shutter will automatically trigger.

Very often individual shutter problems disappear when the shutter is serviced. Have you stripped and serviced the shutter or are you hoping to find an easy fix?
I haven't opened it yet. I have repaired ZEISS myself before. Don't you know if his structure is the same as Zeiss?@@ChrisSherlock
Zeiss didn't make leaf-blade shutters, they bought them from Deckel or Gauthier. This one used by Linhof is a Deckel shutter.

I need to do this to a kodak ektar shutter
Last time I looked 'Ektar' was the name of a Kodak lens, it isn't the name of a shutter. What sort of camera are we talking about here?
Very similar to a mechanical watch mechanism....
Fortunately, the parts are larger and easier to see...
