I love how the goblins just appear suddenly with no build up or introduction, cutting back and forth from the goblins to the bedroom, egging her on to make her wish each time, then when she finally does say the right thing and you expect a cut back to the goblins again but.... nothing, just silence, and we realize what's happened. Masterful filmmaking.
I can kinda understand Sarah’s resentment towards her step-brother, being forced to look after a kid so frequently at such a young age would make you channel all the anger you had towards what you thought was making your life miserable. But at the same time she’s a huge brat at the start lmao 😂
I agree that Sarah is a spoiled brat. Her parents have to deal with that baby 24-7. I don't blame them for going out for date nights every so often. I can understand her frustration too. Especially he's crying and she's at her wits end to figure out to soothe him.
I saw this movie a long time ago in the theater and loved it. Absolutely a classic. Now I'm a father of 2. The movie theater near my house is now showing all of old throwbacks because new movies aren't being released. Today they have started a run of The Labyrinth on the big screen. I can't wait to take my girls to see it. I love that the theaters are doing that. They've shown Jaws, Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Gremlins, Ghostbusters. Just last night we went and saw Jurassic Park.
I watched this at the wrong time. I watched it with my mom when I was 11, and my little brother was only a few months old. This just made me terrified someone was going to take him away.
This scene is like something out of a scary movie. Or a nightmare. Also, at 2:18, when I was a kid, every time I went to bed, it gave me the thought that that goblin would come at me uncovering the blanket over me and saying that at my face. Creeps me out.
When Sarah first says the words wrong, she starts with "I wish". The goblins outright say it doesn't start with "I wish". The goblins then correct the words and state it starts with "I wish..."
They say her words don't start with "I wish", and then they say the correct words. I made that same mistake when I first watched the movie, but the 2nd time I paid closer attention.
I used to think that if she said I wish that the goblins would come take you away they would still take him just not right away but they would insitantly take him away if she said I wish the goblins would come and take you away right now
She was putting out so much anger and negativity that she had created a hole in time and space, Fellow DBZ fans will know very similar to Majin Buu in the Hypberbolic time chamber where by in his rage and battle cry he created a rift between dimensions. Sarah in essence did the same thing, albeit inadvertently.
Somebody made quite a few continuity errors when editing this scene... - at 0:18 Lancelot in the mid shot is a metre away from where he was placed on the bed in the wide shot - where did the cap at 0:30 come from?
Of course Sarah was wrong to level such resentment at Toby... because in all honesty it should've all gone towards both (all three? do we know if her mom is dead or separated from her father?) of her parentals for parentifying her. They could've shelled out a couple bucks an hour for an actual babysitter (or at least offered to pay Sarah for her child-minding services to a kid she didn't give birth to or choose to raise). It's not like other teenagers weren't plentifully available for a very cheap price, and let's be real, a lot of parents back in the day seem totally fine with letting any halfway decent seeming neighborhood adolescent watch their kids as long as it didn't cost them much.
Personally I woulda just let Jareth have the damn thing. Provided the service included making people forget he ever existed so I didn't get in trouble. My dreams for a baby? Sounds like a good deal to me.

"When in doubt-add more glitter." +David Bowie, probably.
Glitter = happiness
I felt so bad for Toby, he just wanted his teddy bear. :(
He wanted HER teddy bear
and probably scared of the thunderstorm too
@@billdeco08 Actually, he was crying cause Sarah was so angry it woke him up.
Am I *Seriously* the only person who even considers *Part* of the problem is Toby needing his diaper changed?!?

Sarah: "Surprised Pikachu face" 😧

I love the Goblins arguing with each other.
I just realize that the hat/beanie she wears while telling the "story" its the hat from toby's pijamas :)
Goblins were hilarious 🤣
I was laughing at the goblins back then as a kid and still today my favourite movie I'm 41
The part where her brother disappeared scared me SO BAD when I was younger
I used to watch this so many times as a kid never got tired of it its still a classic for real

@Zap Rowsdower I don't blame you. I've had nightmares about that a few times.

this turned into horror real quickly
Ya think?
Sarah: "I wish that the goblins would come & take you away right now!
Jareth the Goblin King: "Your wish is my command!"
Be careful what you wish for.
Me: YEA I get to see goblin city and listen to goblin king sing and have a adventure lol
She very well meant what she said, every single word of it. It was just then when sh*t got real that she would soon live to regret it.
This part scared the hell outta me when I was a kid
I can't say I blame you.
This movie scared me in general at a young age.
When the baby stops crying as she leaves the room it kinda gives me chills, anyone else?
Pretty scary, if you ask me.

David Bowie as Jareth The Goblin King
Jennifer Connelly as Sarah Williams

1. Could've been moved and isn't really an error.
2. We don't see her hands and she could've easily reached for it.

why don't they make this a stage production

Because David Bowie's portrayal of King Jareth is an Astronomically High bar to follow.
