    Not just for vocals! I just started toying with melodyne in Fl studio & I can already see the potential it has for sample based hip hop beats! I made a violin loop sound like a violinist playing over the beat in about 25 minutes! I could see it working well for guitar & flute loops too! Just transfer the loop into it 4 or more times & change some of the notes around each time & it’s no longer just a loop! It splits up every note by itself! Even notes that are playing at the same time 😉

    the button to assign a major or minor key you're looking for is the two hashtags at the bottom left corner.
    the time handle button works much like ableton's warp mode break points to move areas around if you will. when time handle is selected a horizontal line will appear on the audio file, to create a break point or bracket double click on the line above the area of the audio you'd like to stretch or tighten then move the point to the left or right..
    shortcuts to free time grid and pitch grid..
    time grid off = click on the beam notes symbol on your upper right corner. it's usually highlighted with a white glow. if you don't know what is a beam notes symbol it's the only symbol in the upper right, just look. you'll find it.
    pitch grid off = click on the treble clef symbol to turn the grid snap off. the symbol is below the help menu and it looks like a reversed S or a flamingo.

    Thanks for posting 'Assistant'!
    Though the Celemony videos may be helpful, they seem to be geared toward the big, much more expensive, 'full' suite. So, when you watch them, there's way too much information, and if you're new to Melodyne (like myself), you don't know which information is just for Assistant and/or Essential, etc. So, it's great that your video is for the one ('Assistant'), which I imagine most people will use, other than maybe wealthy, famous producers who might opt for the full kit.

    Awesome job of demonstrating Melodyne! Thank you for taking the time- Time is the most valuable gift we have, and when that is taken into consideration, this Melodyne is very valuable indeed. Thanks again! I am a Logic user, but have found the onboard flex pitchflex leaves me with many sonic artifacts. Melodyne seems to be a no-brained! The only hurdle is knowing how to operate it. This video has taken care of that part. Thanks! BTW- I can tell you are an awesome musician, producer, and engineer just by the way you were able to hear the minute notes within the notes Melodyne didn't detect.

    Funny you use the macro exactly as I do. A small hint. If you are using the timing tool and wanna disable the snap only now an then, press Alt-Drag. With alt you can disable the snapping. Same goes for the pitch tool.
    Nice video.

    Sometimes when I move a note, it starts to sound strange. The formant tool might be able to correct this. If you move the note up, you could probably move the formant down a little bit to make it sound natural again. I'll have to experiment.

    Nice vid! I've been using the Cubase version for two or three years now but will probably go back to Melodyne. The transfer is more clunky but the mouse workflow is far more straightforward.The Formant tool is actually really handy for increasing a vocal range. It makes a sung note sound relatively natural even though it could never be reached by that vocalist. I've made so many friends this way! :-D

    • @rawstarmusic
      @rawstarmusic 5 років тому

      Yeah formants is a good way to get laid. The the obvious use is when you give a low note to a female voice, then she can't be female anymore so changing the formants is a gender bender and can make her voice to a proper voice for the low pitch.

    Great video! What I would like to know is, how do I make the (furthest left) the 8 drum tracks that I have are very small, how do I widen the horizontally look of the tracks. Please excuse if I haven't explained myself correctly. If I've missed something related to horizontal track height, I apologize. Also, for someone like me who has a vision disability, Melodyne's "default, grey, high contrast 1 and 2 aren't dark themed enough for me but I'm doing my best. I hope they give us darker theme options in the future.

    Hi, what is your workflow after you have finished tuning? I'm using Melodyne Essential and once the vocal is in Melodyne I can no longer make any other edits which is really annoying, I was wondering if i'm doing something wrong or if that's just the way it is?

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  6 років тому

      Unfortunately that’s the way it is, unless you freeze a track or render it out as a new channel. I leave tuning until after the edits have been cleaned up and the takes have been chosen.

    • @elharrop
      @elharrop 6 років тому

      Ah bummer, at least it's not just me being thick! I'm surprised there isn't more flexibility in it, i tried to remove some breaths after I finished tuning and none of my changes were taking effect. I will try the freeze option but then if I decide I want to change a note after I've mixed everything I'll have to render it to a new track again? Is that right??

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  6 років тому

      Yeah that’s right. Melodyne is kind of old tech in some ways- if you use it with Sonar it’s got this ARA thing where you can keep editing. Having said that, you can delete breaths in melodyne by selecting the “silent” part and deleting it

    • @elharrop
      @elharrop 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, I guess you have to really commit to what you are doing in Melodyne to avoid any future hassle, I just wanted to turn them down but you don't have the amplitude tool in Essential so i'll just do it on the frozen track. Thanks for replying I've been reading the forums all day trying to get an answer, so that's what the ARA thing is people are talking about! Sounds great but I don't think I could bring myself to learn a new DAW it's took me a year to get this far!

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  6 років тому

      Yeah I learned in cubase and pro tools, and had the same issues. I moved over to Reaper which is far faster for me, but melodyne (as powerful as it is) is old tech in many ways. It does force you to pick your takes and edit cleanly though, which can be good practice in the long run! It taught me to edit properly- and I also now treat that whole editing/take choosing/tuning section as a whole part before the mix. It makes for a much clearer head when it comes to mixing

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  7 років тому +11

      +Luke Norman it’s a job, and I do my job proudly. There are situations where I’d rather not use it, and situations where it’s necessary. Like I said in the video, we were writing the vocal lines on the day and had limited time with the vocalist- I can’t have my head up my ass and stick to “principles” when that would damage the end result, so I may as well show everyone how to use tools properly

    • @deathhockey19

      Hop Pole Studios
      I think for song writing, experimenting and even practicing.. It's great, perfect product.
      But the moment you start producing it as a finish product, it becomes fake and sounds it too.
      Again this is just my opinion from a guy who records throwaway backing tracks in my bedroom and that it haha. I can understand how in a studio business sometimes your in a corner.... But I still prefer the Glenn Fricker approach haha.

    • @sonicbender
      @sonicbender 5 років тому +2

      @@deathhockey19 maybe this project was commissioned by a songwriter in order to pitch the song to artists. In which case the corrected vocals are more than adequate. Not everything is produced as 'the end result'. Besides, this is a 'how to' video (and as such it's GREAT!), so it judge it as something else just shows a lack of nuanced understanding of the business.

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  5 років тому +1

      Bingo, this person gets it. It’s not always possible to get ‘the best’ in a limited amount of time or situation. I would always record a vocalist as much as possible to get the best take, where circumstances allow. Often it’s just not possible but people want to hear something in tune. Thanks for the kind words :)
