How would all the electric cars be charged then? Our east coast has had frequent, violent weather in recent years and the power was out for thousands of homes for days on end. Renewables only just will not work in storms. The country will be brought to a standstill with electric cars unable to be charged. Australia is not rich in renewables. We make none of the renewables machinery and are in renewables poverty. Renewables are great big, short lived machines made in China and thousands of hectares of solar cells. Backed up by a trillion dollars worth of batteries or failing pumped projects. Nuclear gets very expensive when you have a regulator committed to the projects failing. Japan can build a large nuclear reactor for $5 billion in 5 years. Roof top solar is intermittent and unreliable but the embodied energy involved in the production and installation of the panels exceed the likely useful energy it produced and once you include safe disposal roof top solar produces negative net energy. The idea renewables is cheap is a lie based on optimistic assumptions and not looking at the need to provide power 24 x 7. Once you have to provide reliable power renewables becomes astronomically expensive. Going gang-busters into renewables? It will all be in land fill by 2040. Every time there is an argument on time and cost they wheel out Hinkley and Vogtle as examples. Anyone who bothered to dig into the detail of why these 2 projects took so long would soon see there were specific and extreme circumstances that caused their issues. They talk about extreme cost without a believable baseline figure for what renewables will actually cost. They talk about nuclear not being ready "on time" when a viable robust renewables solution is even further away. And "on time" means to a time frame dictated by political/environmental activists from other countries. When you are asking the population to stump up a trillion dollars to follow your ideological pipedream every option should be on the table. Credibility will only return to the debate when the moratorium has ended.
I agree that Steggall is a waste of oxygen but surely, we Australians are entitled to a proper discussion re our worsening energy crisis and where information is available, other than a pathetic and biased position. A few minutes ago (at a local hospital's canteen) I got a coffee but noticed the asking price. This was 6.11 and from this, highlights how expensive electricity is getting. So, the Cost of Living leading up to a possible earlier federal election, continues to worsen.
The greens are correct, living near a nuclear powerplant does cause all those harmful effects they claim. I live in Lucas heights and the number of two headed people on the streets here is astounding. Our postman has four arms and the local butchers tail is very long. My family of five have 7 heads 11 legs and 14 arms between them.😂😂😂
Many of Albo's ALP colleagues also live in the vicinity of nuclear power plants and suffer from the harmful affects. These unfortunates are readily identifiable by a lack of a backbone, one eyed and two faced😢
The solution to Australia’s energy needs is to leave the ridiculous Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available. Nuclear power plants should be legal in this country, however, new coal fired power plants should be built if these are cheaper.

That's the left response to everything. Oh just be quiet, because if you ask a question I might have to answer it.
That Steggall woman and her sneering "just be quiet" attitude more suits that of an angry divorced deputy principal. That the good people of the Northern beaches voted for this frump is incomprehensible. Please call an election - we need women like Bridget Mckenzie back in power.
I am in Nuclear Generation powered Texas. Electricity costs USD 0.12c per kwh and TX is not the cheapest state. Some are 9c.
Could you tell a dummy like me what that means. Cheap? Expensive? Fluctuates?
Power in Melbourne (Australia's equivalent of Portland Oregon lol) for me is 25cents per KW AU from the mains supplier. We get about 4-5 cents per KW solar feed in. Gas is banned in new house builds. Crime is on the up and up. Whoops! I'm off topic, cheers😒😒
Thankyou for clarification on how cheap Nuclear generated power is. Much appreciated.
Cant wait till Steggall is voted out.
There is no need to replace coal, fix the old ones and get new ones?
Is this the same Teal Party Zali Steggal, a political party demanding respect & civility from politicians?
The greens are correct, living near a nuclear powerplant does cause all those harmful effects they claim. I live in Lucas heights and the number of two headed people on the streets here is astounding. Our postman has four arms and the local butchers tail is very long. My family of five have 7 heads 11 legs and 14 arms between them.😂😂😂
Many of Albo's ALP colleagues also live in the vicinity of nuclear power plants and suffer from the harmful affects. These unfortunates are readily identifiable by a lack of a backbone, one eyed and two faced😢
Now I know where I can go catch some three eyed fish 🐟 👀 👁️😂😂😂😂😂
Zali what a air head ...Does Simon only sign airheads up ?
Who can stand Zeggles the arrogant rude elitists !
Go Bridget!
The solution to Australia’s energy needs is to leave the ridiculous Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available.
Nuclear power plants should be legal in this country, however, new coal fired power plants should be built if these are cheaper.
Steggall will pull out her crying teenage actresses who were found wearing her shirt at the next school protest.
Zali Steggall showing her usual level of ignorance and disrespect!
Steggall is talking about Hinkley #1. The next 3 will be cheaper and faster because of all the learnings from #1.
Chicken lips 🐔Steggall , it doesn't matter what you think....it is up to the hard working tax payers of Australia to make the call at election time.....
Keep the coal going until the nuclear power stations are operational
what's the problem with that our emissions are 1 % of the global emissions we have zero impact
keep our costs down for gods sake
These nuclear plants are being built on the site of the coal fired plants, was there an issue with people health when coal fired plants were there? What a joke and even more pathetic when you take into consideration if it’s so bad then why did Albo sign up for nuclear subs? He’s happy risking the lives of our sailors lol
Zali Steggal demonstrated her intolerance and rudeness perfectly. Closed mind, no other opinion or view required. Please leave politics asap.
Lucas heights has been a nuclear site since 1958. Dali seems unbalanced and uninformed on nuclear.
