I have the 2023 Super Tenere ES, they only make the ES now. I agree the sports mode is unusable due to the abrupt deceleration when changing gears. Since I just purchased the bike new, I have to recover financially a few months before I can ECU flash my bike. Nice video.
Thanks Richie, I just bought my ST and I will look into the ECU flashing for sure. I’m in Dublin and will try and find somewhere that can do it for me. The last guy put a sports can on it which I think it also affects the fuelling and I’m about to put an original one back on. Happy riding
I have heard that the ECU flash makes a difference. Glad that you are enjoying your bike even more now. It is important that our wives are as comfortable as possible so that we can enjoy motorcycling together. Have fun and ride safe.
Hi. I am preparing for an ECU flash and still trying to figure out if I should replace the headers also. Some tuners say that the gains after decat are not that big and just replacing the muffler+ECU flash is good for most people, because decating makes the bike really loud and tiresome on long trips. Any opinions on this? Thanks
I did this flash and found the bike to be so much better. I need to replace the muffler. But you know what helped me as well? K&N air filter. I installed one recently and it does makes a difference. If you decat the pipes I bet the bike will be super loud. I have an Arrow exhaust sitting in the garage to be installed. Waiting for the clamps to be delivered. Once I install it I will make a video on that. I would definitely install an aftermarket exhaust but I don’t think I’ll spend all that extra money for the headers. Neither do I like too much noise on long journeys.
Hi richie, I stumbled across your video doing some research on the yamaha super tenere I am originally from coachford currently living in Dublin, and I was watching your video and thinking I know that road at the very start and as soon as you got to canons cross I instantly knew where I was! I am trying to decide between getting a yamaha super tenere, honda crosstourer, or bmw r1200gs thnaks for the video the yamaha super tenere seems like a great bike but it needs some adaptations or adjustments to just get it right
Hi Colm, I did a huge research before buying these bikes. If I may share my honest opinion and experience…. The crosstourer has awesome engine and it’s very reliable but it’s too heavy. The BMW is a great machine. If you are planning for one chose one after 2014 model year with the steering damper installed. The previous once were a bit troublesome. Right now BMW s are all overpriced. And you must consider huge maintenance cost which comes free with the big price tag. The super tenere is by no means a perfect a bike. You might have to get some modifications done to get it right according you your needs. Like… aftermarket screen, dyno tune to name 2. If you a looking for one buy one after 2014 which had lot of upgrades. If you have any questions for me you can PM me on my instagram “rideswithrichie” and I can help you. Good luck. Richie
Hi. They are all like that when they are stock. You have to get the ECU flashed sort out the fuelling. I did the ECU flash on the bike and changed the air filter to K&N and I found the bike to be much smoother… the sports mode very usable since
I might check a few things if I was you. How many miles does your bike have? Have you changed the air filter? I would advice to go for an after market like K&N. You will notice the difference in performance. Has the bike been ridden in the wet? Has the bike been washed using a pressure washer? The reason why I’m asking is… on the super tenere 1200s there is an issue which is well known. That is water seeping into the injectors. Happened on mine as well. Lift the tank and take out every 4 injectors and check. If there is any rust or corrosion that means water is seeping in. Change the spark plugs and You can apply some high temperature silicone and reinstall the injectors. If they are in bad shape… just replace them. You will thank yourself. Let me know how you get on.
Yes. It does transform the bike. If you have the OEM air filter I would advise you to change it to K&N. It makes a substantial difference in the power delivery
Hi, Definitely there was no improvement in Fuel Consumption. It’s been the same as it was before. I must mention that this bike very thirsty around town and city riding. If you are doing highway riding it definitely does around 350kmw per tank of fuel
Super Tenere 1200 any day. The motor of the Crosstourer is punchy… the bike is very top Heavy because of V4. Plus Super Tenere is bulletproof and easy maintenance
@@rideswithrichie I travel a lot, and I do not hide it from you. I travel across countries, which means that I travel long distances. Is the Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 suitable for long roads?
@MohamedQureshi yes it is. It depends now if you are travelling a lot of highway miles and back roads I would advice you go for the Super Tenere. It can do miles after miles happily. It’s a great all rounder. But remember that the bike is heavy. If you are doing a lot of off reading I would like to go for a Tenere 700.
@@rideswithrichie thank you very muchI am grateful to you, God willing. I am going with Super Tenere because I rarely enter off-road terrain. I did research and saw that it is almost suitable for off-road terrain.
Hi, I have not been to any long distance trips. However on my commute to work and back which is 10km each way (5km in stop and go traffic and 5km in 60kmph zone) I’m getting around 300km between fill ups. I hope this helps. It was similar before the flash was done
Glad I found your channel, followed your Instagram as well. I love my SuperTenere and have covered 30,000 miles on it in 2 years. Ride safe brother~
Thank you. Apologies for the delay in replying. Thank you for the subscription. Im following you on Instagram as well. Safe riding

Gary in Mototuning in Dublin is sound… he was the one who did the tuning for me…
Thanks Richie, comfort etc is very important in Road mode but as you say it’s nice to know the power is there in Sport mode if you need it.
Yes true. Thanks Tony.
I find sport mode and traction control 2 or off is the ticket for the best performance and smooths that engine braking out.
Ohhh… I never tried that… thanks for the input. I’ll try that and see how it goes. Thanks once again

Thank you for the lovely comment.
Nice video. Looking to see about doing something similar once I pick up the bike.
Thank you. I will soon make a video of all the accessories which I have added to the bike…
What a nice the bike
The videos “bam bam” and the bike
Thanks for the tip
Thank you
Sounds like a good improvement! Going to shop around.🇺🇸
Thanks Tracey. You will fall in love with your bike more after you get this done.

@scottshafer9813 ohhh… then… ECU flash is the only way out

After the ECU flash can you still do engine braking on the downshifts ?
Yes, you can. I can do it all the time. It depends upon how your engine is tuned
@@rideswithrichie ok. Thanks. I think I will give that a try 😊
How much did the flash cost roughly speaking. Thanks
Hi Derrick. The flash was €450 if I can remember. Or something around that. If you call Mototuning Dublin, Garry will guide you

Probably in the 30mpg range.
how many km do you make on full to full after your reflash ?
