    Making this DYI project now. Plywood was $49 and stain $19. Rented a saw table for $49 for 4 hours. Definitely a full day project sanding and staining take the longest time.

      Better if you use an orbital sander in the whole panel and stain or paint it as a whole, then cut them to size. Place them all to a side, clamp them to make a one piece again, sand and stain; same with the other side. Now, for a less trouble with cutting and carrying from the store: Buy wood boards, they have a better side finish than plywood. Cut, clamp, sand, stain, repeat...👍🏻The sense of satisfaction once you finish is the goal.

    Plywood is a good pick, especially for a bathroom, sand the corners a bit, and if the slats are spaced close enough you wont even see that nasty ply on the edge.

    a sheet of 18mm plywood is currently £45.
    I think I would put 3 slats horizontal first, 1 at top, 1 at middle and 1 at the bottom, paint them grey so the blend in to the wall and the you would have supprt for the vertical slats

      She might be confusing "sanded" with "Sande" plywood, which is an affordable plywood HD sells. It's somewhat presentable, as in not the lowest construction-grade. But it's kinda powdery and iffy to work with.

      it's obvious if you understand types of wood. 1x2 strips are called firring, it's made with the cheapest softwood, warps easily, lots of knots. SHE is using a smarter way , the face of her sheets is stain grade , much prettier and the wood does not warp easily because it's stable because of the layers glued together. her way is by far smarter. the only downside is that it is veneer

    looks great, i never thought to use plywood, people don't understand 1x2 firring strips are softwood and the surface is really ugly. your way you get a veneer AND it's cheaper than using pure hardwood strips. the only thing I would do different is use a smaller gap, and I would see how I could make the wall behind it flat even if I have to mud it or use a wood panel behind it. I'd also try a flat black color. minor gripes, you did great!

      Yeah well the cheapest walnut veneer i found was $16 for 2" x 50 feet... And im gonna need like 20 feet of veneer to do 3 sides of each of the 100 boards that are $5 each... So im looking at over a $1000 for the project im about to do... vs $100 for stained plywood. I just wish that i had a table saw and wasnt living in an apartment :)

    • @eksine
      @eksine Рік тому

      @@GwynBleys I have the Harbor Freight Hercules contractor table saw for $300 when it's on sale. it actually has great reviews. the apartment thing I can't help with. You could get away with it if you resaw your veneer with a bandsaw though, plus it's safer. yeah I saw the veneer prices and started researching how to do it myself. so far by research has led me to rockler woodworking, they have really nice bandsaws for sale. I first looked in Grizzley bandsaws but the reviews are atrocious, they no longer care about the customers plus the reliability fell off a cliff. rockler has nice drum sanders
