You both are totally right haha it’s definitely the “right” way to do it - I was just trying to show this one in the e simplest way possible. Might end up changing out the baseboard soon 👍
@@AndrewThronImprovements would be a nice follow up video for sure and realistic for folks like me who wouldn't think to change it out to begin with being newer to DIY home projects
Straight to the point. No filler. Exactly what I was looking for. Going to do something similar in one of my kids' bedrooms this week. Using this video for reference.
4:20 you could have cut a slight bevel on the bottom of the boards so it transitioned to the baseboard. Just a thought 🙂 All in all it turned out fantastic! Makes me want to do this to my laundry room!
I see people screaming to change the baseboard. No need, simply take a piece of cove trim, flip it upside down to create a flat edge for the verticals boards to rest on. It will avoid the verticals looking like they’re hanging off. Great job!
Ignore all the negative Nancy's out there. You did a great job. The baseboard can be changed later. Projects around the house never end after all. 👍 Cheers. ✌️
Nice vid. I did something similar and where the verticals meet the baseboard we just cut a taper with the chopsaw so it flushes with the top of the baseboard. Not necessary at all but it looks pretty cool.
This is a great video. This is what I wanted to know how to do for my living room renovation. Thank you very much for this video. Plus Lowe’s is my favorite store. You hit nail on its head.
Looks great man! Thanks for showing your work here, makes it really accessible to tackle things like this! I might get rid of the baseboard and quarter round down there and try a flat baseboard if I were to do this but, easier said than done. You do some great work and inspires me to do some of my own projects. Edit: Just looked at the comments and I guess we’re all on the same page about the baseboards 😅
Fabulous! A new dimension to ATI: construction, design and decor (& a plastic plant). The idea is timeless and the plant will sell at the ATI garage sale! :). Glad to see you back with new ideas.
Looks great!! The house I bought had the old school paneling in the kitchen which is quite similar but this looks quite a bit better… seeing how easy this looks I may give this a shot
my opinion is you could/should have used a 1"x3" or 1"x4" for the base rail as well. everything would have fit snug without an overhang on the bottom. you commented on that as well.
I agree, I use both too, some would say liquid nails and brad nails is overkill but I go the same route, err on the side of caution, I tend to overbuild things
Looks amazing, idk why people are acting as if the baseboard is an eye sore or something…it doesn’t look bad at all and for someone like me who doesn’t want to replace that baseboard this will work fine! Thank you for the wonderful idea ❤
if it is possible can u make the video for all the interior renovations I watched all the outside renovations but I want to see the inside of the house and btw all the videos are so good....the way you done the garden is outstanding...front of the house beautiful as well. Love your videos.
You're right! The controversial fake plant makes it is so much better. I was hoping to see if you added other details inside the panels, but like you said it was supposed to be simple.
Baseboard looks super weird. Other issue doing it that way is usually you are going to get a different look from the paint on the painted wall. Also in a lot of different areas of homes you could have all sorts of texture differences original to the house. Or if someone updated it you could have a Sun Valley or more modern texture. Even if you are in an older house it could be plaster and have dips and what not that are going to be noticeable. Not to mention again the sheen of the paint showing different on the two different materials.
This is so nice and I always wanted wainscoting in my home but not smart enough to do a project like this. Please come to my home and do it for me lol.
Somewhere a 10 year old girl got shivers, knowing one day 20 years from now she's gonna find all that glue under the wainscoting that damn millennial installed.
Where the boards meet the baseboard left me speechless. I was yelling at the tv for you to change it. People come to UA-cam to learn and this just is a terrible job. If my husband did this to my house he would never hear the end of it.
Typical hack job . Do you notice he did not mate the vertical boards to the colonial molding claiming it was faster and easier. What is the rush ? This install will be there for many years into the future so take your time and be proud of your finish product. But guess these days every one is looking to see how quick a job can be finished with as little effort as possible. With some basic tools like a saw and wood file I got a perfect joint between vertical boards and floor trim . Yes, it takes a little more time but he should have gone the extra mile to show all that watch this video the proper way then give the option for a hack job instead of the other way around.
PEOPLE STOP DOING THIS! the point of doing something yourself is to save on labor cost. You're not saving yourself more money by doing the work incorrectly. If you know what should be getting done then invest the time to do it correctly so it has a higher value in the end. Remove the baseboard, put a 1x along the bottom. You're working inside corner to inside corner. Easiest possible scenario for an accent wall. All this saved anyone was the price of one more board.
NO. Per Hull Historical, wainscot should 28”-30” high for 8’-9’ ceilings and 30”-32” high for 10’-11’ ceilings. 35-½” is to high and historically wrong.
I generally like your work, but why didn't you make equal length sections? Traditional, correct wainscotting doesn't have unequal sections. All sections would be the same.
@@mattjones5175 See this is opinion based. You just replaced in my opinion with traditional and correct. There is no book no literature that says wainscoting must have all equal length. You made that up because u like wainscoting to have equal sections. And that is good for you. I like it different.
@@miso1993 actually there is. It’s hard to find, but you can find it in fine woodworking literature. It’s there and there are sources online. Search also old craftsman or mission homes wainscoting. You’ll never see traditional wainscoting with unequal panels.

Totally agree 👍 I think I will swap out the baseboard at the bottom soon. Thanks for watching!
I did this in my son’s kitchen years ago but put bead board first and added cove mold to the inside edges and top. 🤷♂️ It just cleaned it up a lot
Nice! To make it better you could 45 the bottom edge to mimic the kick board!
For the bottom, if you do a 45-50 degree angle taper, it would look a lot better. You can do it on a miter saw easily.
Looks great. I guess the plant needed a little time out in the corner.

Is there a program or app that is good for the measurements?
What is the formula you used to measure the distance from each board?
looks great. not a fan of the baseboard mismatch. that was a lot of glue.
Can you use the same MDF boards as the baseboard or just find something similar in size or another material?
Simply amazing ❤
I missed the total cost of bill of materials. Where
looks great.
Which 3D software do you use?
What design program did you use??
What's the reference for the paint color for wall and board??? brand? shade?
Quick and easy, but I would have cut the ends to fit over the skirting and filled any gaps. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for making this! It really looks great.

What was the reason for choosing 14 inches from either end and not more....or less?
Why choose MDF over wood?
It’s just a bit cheaper and easier to paint (no wood knots either which can soak up paint)
Remove the baseboard, put a horizontal board as a bottom cap and then install the baseboard over that.
Its lovely.

So if I go out & get the Same stuff your telling me I can do this ? 😂 ima hold you to it

If the builder sprayed orange peel, how would you smooth it out for the spaces between all the boards?
Looks good. Gives the wall some character. That baseboard, yeah, that needs to be changed out. 😣😁
