      Hi, Robert: I'm glad I could answer some questions for you! I was using a very nice lav mic; either a Sanken, Rode or DPA. I think it was the DPA. As far as other gear, I could recommend cameras for you, or is there something else specifically you are looking for. I'm going to work on some more short tutorials over the next month and setting up a PIP will be one.

    Thank you very much for this in-depth video! Do the cameras/HDMI inputs have to be at the same frame rate? With Blackmagic Design Atem TV Studio HD, it requires that all the cameras to have the same framerate for it to function. (59.94fps, 29.94)

    Great video! I'm looking to start streaming my church services live to UA-cam and I have a few questions.
    1. Can I run the feed from the switcher to our DVD recorder?
    2. How do I input name keys and other footage into the switcher?
    3. I will be using the audio we have from our audio board. Will I be able to record the video from the switcher and the audio from our board together?
    4. Do I need any additional equipment to livestream to UA-cam? I.e. Capture Cards, software?
    5. How do I get visuals from a computer to the switcher?
    6. Lastly, is there anything else I need to know/get to successfully livestream?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you for the great video! Did you choose the atomos for having a monitor and recorder or is it necessary to record correctly? Are streaming & record devices like the Datavideo NVS-25 or the blackmagic design h264 pro recorder enough to record a video for editing? I may have to do also streaming so I wonder if this could be a solution instead of having the atomos and the teradek vidiU. It will be really helful to have a response!

    What a great video! Fantastic job covering all the details!
    2 questions.
    1. Can I use the Luma key to put my company’s logo I. The corner of the broadcasted video? Like a watermark.
    2. In your example towards the end of putting your singer overlayed in the website background, does that work only because she is standing I front if a white backdrop, similar to a green screen? If I get this product, it will be for live concerts. So the background in my case will be a stage with lots of colors and clutter. Will it somehow be able to cut things/people out the same way as it did your singer? Or again, only because she had a white backdrop behind her? Thank you so much! I look forward to your response.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  6 років тому

      Thanks! I don't recommend using HDMI cables longer than 10 meters. If you need your cameras farther away, you should convert to SDI, then back to HDMI, or look into the Roland V-1SDI. www.dvestore.com/roland-v-1sdi-hd-video-switcher/

    Great video! Does anyone know if this thing works with the canon 5diii? Canon claims it has clean hdmi out so I would hope so, but want to be sure.
    Also, you would go Roland V1-HD, to a recorder (atmos) , to a capture card, to a computer for live stream? Or do you not need the Atmos to live stream. Sorry a bit naive here. Thanks

    Hello, thanks for all the information.

    Great video, thanks! Does the unit scale the incoming signal or did you match all 4 of the inputs to one common one? Thanks in advance.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 років тому

      Thanks, Michael. The V-1HD does not scale, so you want to set the format switch to match the incoming signal. You can input either 1080p or 1080i, whether the format switch is set to 1080p or 1080i. All internal processing is progressive. It accepts 59.94 or 50 for frame rates. It may sound like a pain, but actually the only source I had to adjust was the Panasonic GH4. The netbook, Macbook Pro and iPod signals were all happily accepted by the V-1HD without issue. Happy New Year!

    Very helpful, thanx. think I gonna buy the thing.
    What I missed is a little more on how the effects work. If I understand right it is possible to input audio and manipulate the image with the beat or frequency settings. But how does that work?
    And since you seem up to date on extra boxes - any suggestion on an analog (composite) to HD720p converter I could put before the mixer? Thanx a lot

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 років тому

      +David Haneke Upconverting composite SD to HD is not often done, but there are some inexpensive options out there, like this one: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1KT0FU0184&cm_re=composite_to_hdmi_converter-_-9SIA1KT0FU0184-_-Product. I'm not sure what the quality will look like; particularly against other native HD sources. As far as auto-switching, let me look further into the BPM settings on the V-1HD.

    Movie making, we're trying to bring our three or four Nikon cameras that are recording a person/s with a green screen that would be keyed out. Uploading or live streaming directly from your laptop would be easier than transferring the video to your phone. You could use this Magewell capture dongle to get the video from the V-1HD to your laptop. www.dvestore.com/magewell-xi100dusb-hdmi-usb-3-0-capture-dongle-used-446/ Then you need some recording/streaming software. OBS is one option. obsproject.com/

    Thanks for the great video. Because of it I pretty much followed everything you said. But i have one question I have the v-1hd and a atomos ninja 2. I want to record like you did to the ninja 2 and I tested a blu-ray player to it but it will show up on the roland, but not the ninja. the ninja just shuts down like there is no feed.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  8 років тому

      The Ninja 2 will not accept 1920x1080 60p (59.94), you have to give it 1920x1080 30p (29.97). Or the problem could be HDCP. If the Blu-Ray is a commercially produced disc, it will be HDCP encrypted. The V-1HD can pass through HDCP content, but all devices in the chain must be HDCP compatible, which the Ninja 2 isn't.

    Great video! Wondering if you might be able to help me. I want to use this device in order to live stream. I am using OSB and Kaltura (live streaming much like youtube I guess). What HDMI to USB or Thunderbolt device do you recommend? It would be nice to be able to capture to Final Cut Pro as well. Thanks so much for posting this video!

    Hi, great video. I'm planing to buy theV-1HD, and it helped me a lot. A question.
    At what distance the HDMI cable starts to degrade the signal?

    Thank you for this video, very useful. Does the Roland V-1HD Video Switcher take full HDMI in and give it out that is 1080p and 720p. We purchased the Roland V-4EX only to discover that most of the HDMI inputs were 480.

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 років тому

      Yes, the V-1HD has three modes, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. It will not do standard definition at all :)

    I have an issue with the V-1HD mixer. I have two sony FDR 100 video cameras and two PTZ remote cameras plugged into the mixer. All are se to 1080p output and the Mixer to 1080p input. One of the Sony cameras works well the other a slightly older model and the two new PTZ cameras squish the output and the preview image in the vertical and sometimes has a copy of part of the image below or even above the moving image. What am I doing wrong as I would expect the roland to copy with all these cameras?

    Great video,thanks for this. At 18:20 you show very quickly how to run a white luma key. We were thinking of trying out green screen broadcasting. Would green be better? Does the Roland have an option for green luma key for the effects?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  7 років тому

      Hi, Mark! When you key out green, it's called a chroma key and when you key out the dark or light parts of an image, it's called a luma key. Yes, you can do chroma keying and luma keying with the V-1HD. Luma keying is generally used to overlay graphics over video. Chroma keying is generally used to replace the background in an image or video.

    • @markcafiero1306
      @markcafiero1306 7 років тому

      Do you know if there are any step-by-step instructions that exist on how to use this to overlay graphics? If not, would you be willing to type up a really quick 1-2-3 for this kind of action?

      Selecting a Compositing Effect
      1. Press the MEMORY button to display the MEMORY menu.
      2. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to select EFFECTS A or EFFECTS B.
      3. Use the A/B fader to select the compositing effect to assign to the EFFECTS A or B [ON] button.
      Compositing Using Luminance Key
      1. Follow the procedure in "Selecting a Compositing Effect" to select "WHT-L.KEY" or "BLK-L.KEY."
      2. Press the EFFECTS A (or B) [ON] button to turn on the effect (lighted).
      3. Press the [A-1] through [A-4] and [B-1] through [B-4] buttons to separately select the background and the picture you want to display in the foreground. The video on the bus at the position where you turned on the effect in step 2 is displayed in the foreground.
      4. Turn the [EFFECTS A] and [EFFECTS B] knobs to adjust the amount of effect applied. The [EFFECTS A] knob adjusts the amount of keying for the foreground video. The [EFFECTS B] knob adjusts the degree of edge blur for the foreground video.
      5. To turn off an effect, press the EFFECTS A (or B) [ON] button a second time.

    Thank you for your informative video. One question, I notice the format switch. Is this only the output format? Do all hdmi inputs have to be the same format? We have a 1080I camera, and we hope we can have this flexibility with a new camera 2 (720p) as a fixed wide shot, and then the hdmi o/p of a laptop for keying.

    • @TerryPayman
      @TerryPayman 6 років тому

      From my reading of the spec, the format switch setting applies to inputs and output. All inputs must match resolution, so you can't mix 720 & 1080. You would need a 1080(p or i) camera 2, and a 1080(p or i) output from the laptop.

    Nice video. I liked the menu walkthrough.
    Would have liked to see what the PIP looks like, size capabilities, etc.
    We never got to see the audio input/output on the side that you're using.
    The app- it'd be interesting to see a walkthrough of the app and how it makes adjusting audio levels easier than using the video mixer. I didn't see the meters goin when you showed the mixer app, so does it show live audio levels, etc?

    This is fantastic! Super helpful. Question: I am having trouble getting a signal from my Roland HD1 to my Atomos Blade (seems like I'm not alone!). I need to mix two signals. One from my Panasonic AC30 and the other is from a laptop. I need to do a live mix with my Roland and record into the Blade (which currently says NO SIGNAL). I see there may be an issue with format/scaling. Can you help? Do I need to upgrade to a newer Atoms?

    • @dvestore
      @dvestore  6 років тому

      Hi, Andy: The Blade only supports up to 1080p30, which is probably why it's not 'seeing' the signal from your V-1HD. The AC30 and the laptop are likely putting out 1080p60. You could upgrade to a Ninja Flame, www.dvestore.com/atomos-ninja-flame-4k-hdmi-hdr-recording-monitor/ or you could use a Decimator MD-HX to downconvert the Roland output. www.dvestore.com/decimator-md-hx-miniature-hdmi-sdi-cross-converter-with-scaling-frame-rate-conversion/ What is the final destination for your video?

    • @andynation8559
      @andynation8559 6 років тому

      DVeStore, Inc. Thank you! The final product will be the capture only (not live stream) onto an Atomos device. From there I may do some light editing (iMovie) and am hoping that the Flame will allow me some flexibility of the final file type so that I can edit. Sounds like it’s an either/or thing re Flame and Decimator, true?

    we have installed a Roland V-1HD in our Church
    We have 3 No. PTZ cameras and laptop inputs and out to 5 No. Monitors in the Church
    However we have quite a bit of latency between live movement and viewed movement on our monitors
    Any suggestions as to what we can do to minimize the latency?

    Hello Sir. We purchased this device( Roalnd V1HD plus Video Switcher) 1 year ago and using it as a stand alone switcher. In order for it to be functional we needed a video capture card. My question is, if we switch the current device Roland V1HD to a Roland V1HD with encoder, will i still need a capture card. Blessings to you

    I just flew with our V-1HD Switcher tightly packed in a road box. When I set it up to do PIP with 2 inputs, No matter what input I go to in full screen the left half of the screen is pixelated and off orientation a bit and the right half of the screen is perfectly fine. It happens with both inputs and not in separate recordings of those sources. Do you think our V-1HD was damaged by baggage handlers or TSA inspectors. I'd love to get your POV on this. Other than this issue, the V-1HD has been great for our output. Thanks

    Hey Jason. Thanks for the great video. Very informative!
    I'm trying to figure out a way to feed my Pro Tools mix through a pair of mono outputs from the back of my Digi 003 Rack+ and then loop it back into some free digital streaming software on my MacBook Pro (OBS) without having to use the noisy Line In preamp that's built into my MacBook.
    I'm wondering if the V-1HD has the ability to send the source audio inputs through the USB connection my MacBook or if that USB connector on the back of the V-1HD is specifically for communication between the hardware and the software?
    I hope I was clear and I look forward to your reply!

      Thanks, Barry! Unfortunately, the USB connector is only for software control. You may want to use a USB audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett www.dvestore.com/audio/recording-devices/focusrite-scarlett-2i2-usb-portable-audio-interface/
