    Love... love... these recipes. I make it as a sandwich cake. I melted peanut butter chips with heavy cream for choco filling. I made a cranberry-orange jam with the yellow cake. Both were better the next day. I serve with whipped cream.
    For the choco, I replaced 1/4 cup milk with double shot of expresso. Yummy!
    Do you have a poptart replacement? We live cinnamon no frosting poptart for breakfast... not to sweet. The grocery store one has a lot of weird ingredients.

    Have you ever tried putting the buttermilk powder into the flour mix and then just add ding the amount of water to reconstitute the powder to the add in ingredients in the recipe?

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  18 днів тому

      If you can get it to fit, I believe using buttermilk powder, you would use 1/4 cup 30g, then to reconstitute it, add 1 cup of water in place of the buttermilk.

    Kara..Hi I am starting an Amish friendship starter for my son ( he loves these quick breads )..and usually just likes white bread from store..there is a recipe using this starter for a sandwich bread but it says to use a bread flour or all purpose flour..I have made the honey oat bread ( your recipe) and added regular sourdough to it and comes out great..but for a whiter bread and or to get him eating a healthier bread..what flour mixture would you use to get this consistancy - maybe..Only day 3 of my starter so have time..Patricia

    How long will freshly milled flour keep when vacuum sealed? and then frozen? Just got the ForJars vacuum sealer kit.

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  16 днів тому

      To keep the most nutrients in tact, I recommend keeping in the fridge for up to 7 days, and the freezer for up to 4 months. Either way, the bran will still be in there which provides nice healthy bran!

    Don’t know if anyone has asked, but on the buttermilk, can you, instead of using liquid buttermilk, use powdered buttermilk and add it to the jar also, (the kind like you get from Azure)? If you can, how much dried would you add, and how much liquid (water?) would you use when you’re ready to make the mix.
    I would also love to see more dry mixes like cornbread, biscuits, pancakes etc using your fresh milled flour. ❤

    Would vacuum sealing the jar or adding an Oxygen Absorber help in keeping it fresh longer? This was GREAT!!! Thanks

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  19 днів тому

      I would still recommend to keep it in the fridge or freezer, If you do vacuum seal, it would likely last and not go rancid, but the nutrients of the flour will likely be much less. However, the bran will still be there adding fiber regardless! :)

  • @galemartin3277
    @galemartin3277 18 днів тому

    So if you used the quick canning lid that's popular these days, would that keep the mix long term ? Without freezing?

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  18 днів тому

      I would still freeze or refrigerate to lock in the nutrients. But, If it is vacuum sealed I don't think it would have a problem going rancid or anything for awhile.

    Why would the dry mix need to be stored in the fridge or freezer?

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  16 днів тому

      Because freshly milled flour starts to oxidize, and loose it's nutrients shortly after milling, so keeping it in the fridge for up to 7 days or freezer for up to 4 months will help keep those nutrients in. :)
