    I adore watching these videos. What a voice, attention to detail, wonderful naration and knowledge. Almost hypnotic and although I have a modest watch collection...I am yet to purchase a Speedy! I missed an opportunity years ago but my heart wants one so very badly. I truly believe I could end up collecting them one day. Thanks for the video.

    My wife over heard me watching this and she asked me... "who is that you're listening to? The David Attenborough of watch making" 😂
    Thank you for another fantastic video.

    Great video! Interesting to see how the movement comes out. I always had read that that dust cover was actually an anti magnetic shield for the movement.

    Great and interesting video as always.
    Quick question: what do you do with hands where tritium is getting loose and starts crumbling? Here the minute hand a bit, I guess.

    1967 is my birth year and I have been looking for my first Speedmaster. I have other Omegas but the speedy is one I do not have.
    Could you point me towards some watches around the prices in your List? Thanks for the great videos and priceless information, Glad I found you.

      I would start at chrono24, eBay, omegaforums, and auction houses.
      Worth looking at some of the dealers, vintage speedmaster in uK, davidoff brothers in Switzerland, Eric Wind in USA

    Happy 2022! Hope to be purchasing a Speedy soon and your videos have really helped! What is the issue with the crowns? I've always wondered why so many of these watches have replacement crowns. Is it due to normal wear/tear or just a trade rule in the servicing industry to replace the pushers, bezel, and crown?

    • @phmwu7368
      @phmwu7368 2 роки тому

      the lower push button tends to go first 😟

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  2 роки тому +1

      The crown is a service part, with a rubber gasket that is part of the water resistance. So in order for that resistance level to be maintained Omega stipulates the crown being replaced at a full Omega service. We collectors make do with reduced water resistance and keep the original crown if present. Then again, in a later watch like this, if the crown has been replaced once I will update it as needed.

    Really nice, thank you. I tried to remove my dust cover to follow along, but alas, it was not liking my advances! If this pushes one out, how might we follow the one that is being pushed out?

    My favourite Speedmaster reference. Oh i wish Omega had reproduced this exactly as the “new” speedmaster with the 3861 mvt. I think they ruined the dial with those sloppy and rounded hour markers in the new version. The sharp, well defined hour markers as in this speedy are the way to go imho.

    Congrats! I'd be afraid of unscrewing/screwing the back with that hardened gasket. Isn't it possible some will flake off into the movement?

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  2 роки тому

      There is always a risk a decayed gasket might flake into the movement. You have to be careful

    Hi,
    I love your videos and the in-depth knowledge you have in these watches. Just hoping if you could help me with buying my first speedmaster. I am considering to buy either
    watch 1: Speedmaster ref 345.0808 with acrylic front and sapphire display case back, 863 movement. The item is watch only without box or paper Or
    watch 2: Apollo XVII Ltd Edn ‘Last Man’ 3574.51.00 in full set. Watch 2 is limited to 3000 pieces, but this not really a limited edition, the only different vs normal version is the writing on the back. It has 1863 movement.
    Both are similar price and similar condition.
    Would you please help advise which one is a better investment?
    Thanks!

    • @Speedmaster101
      @Speedmaster101  2 роки тому

      I am sorry both those watches are later than the era I am familiar with. As always, buy the one you like best. Investment is a concept driving watches at the moment, but I am sure it is a passing fad.

      @@Speedmaster101 wouldn’t mind that at all. You are a legend and I’ve watched your video with Wei Koh a million times. I have enough in my PayPal account to get a new 3861 but I get a feeling I should go vintage instead.
