You can turn on the LED light to assist with focus; press info button.

How do you get on with doing macro videos? I just got the LG-1 thinking that it would allow the LED light to be used, but it only works for photos whereas I only am interested in trying to get some good rock pooling video. Any pointers to how your videos were so good? Many thanks

Curious about more in-depth settings you use. I'm currently shooting Nudibranchs and other small animals from above the surface with a non-waterproof high end camera/lens and I find I have to shoot (like with most macro photography) at high f-stop settings (f/16 usually) to keep the depth-of-field wide enough to keep the whole animal in focus. Does the fact that you're shooting in microscope mode with the diffuser limit your ability to adjust other settings? On my system I shoot at 1/80th sec, full flash strength with auto ISO enabled, so the camera adjusts the ISO to properly adjust the exposure and does pretty well. I often shoot tide-pool animals at night so ambient light is non-existent so I do carry LED flashlights to aid autofocus. Looking to jump to the TG-6 so I can ditch the heavy equipment and not have to deal with surface reflections by going with the underwater camera. Thanks!

You can adjust things like f-stop but it's very tedious on the TG-6, especially when tide pooling with constantly changing conditions. We generally just leave everything but flash on auto and take a variety of pictures from different angles and positions, mainly trying to get eyes or rhinophores in focus and taking a top-down shot to get the full subject in focus if needed, just because getting a high f-stop picture to work is so tedious, it can be done though.

I would love the opportunity to take photos like this with my Olympus. No tide pools in the mid south though. Where abouts were these taken?

Thanks for making this! Is there a reason that the FD-1 would be preferred over the LG-1?

Search "What differentiates the LED Light Guide LG-1 from the Flash Diffuser FD-1?"
Of the 2, only the FD-1 will work underwater.

any suggestions for an affordable ring light that mounts to the underwater housing on the TG6.

Have you found something about that?

The GPS boots up MUCH quicker if you do the recommended every 4 week update of the A-GPS info. The procedure is in the manual. It's not a firmware update. It's a simpler thing. It makes a BIG difference. The Olympus firmware update process on the other hand is a real nuisance, at least on a Mac. Other cameras let you download an update to your SD card and the camera reads it in. Very easy. Olympus makes you install their big photo management software (I already use something else) and then modify your system settings to give them access through security and etc. It sucks. The SD card method is MUCH friendlier. Shame on them for that.

Thank you Jeff! I was under the impression it was a firmware update, but that not being the case is great news! I will look into that. Thank you!

So are you using microscope mode? Or underwater mode with the Macro setting? I notice the latter won't let me select the FD-1, so I'm guessing you don't have it in underwater mode.
