Getting two, wife also needs one. To be used on developments, in the Richtersveld, Kgalagadi and other tough places in South Africa 🇿🇦.

Little update. I got my new TG7 for making mostly motocross videos. The audio is better than just okay. It is almost too good because it picks up the clicking sounds of the buttons and zoom, but it also clearly picks up the sound of my dirt bike from a distance. Way better than a gopro or cell phone in every way.

Every once in a while I’m inspired with a camera or a lens, that just becomes my “go to” system, sometimes for years! And about 5 years ago, on the second day of what would become a 20 day North Atlantic “November”crossing, in a 60’ sailboat that was being delivered to the Canary Islands, I ended up with a massive equipment failure, my camera was dead and I was 2 days offshore & miles from home.I had a poor choice for a backup camera, my old canon 5d.. much too big & cumbersome to have in hand when you’re fighting mad weather.. I had no choice but to put my gear away and safe from the same or a worst fate than its predecessor. So with that opportunity passed, I’m now in the camera store on the Canary Islands, speaking with a sales rep who listens to my pathetic story of busted gear.. when he hands me what is essentially a pocket camera called “Tough” and I’m thinking two things: 1, I wonder if it would have been tough enough in my pocket while my body was being banged into the hull of the Kevlar boat? And 2, maybe my Spanglish just isn’t working today, and the salesman just got it wrong.. . Try it, he says, try the menu, take some photos, Within minutes I was blown away! An Olympus I thought.. a pocket camera? But oh what a beautiful colour pallet and an f 2.0 lens good to a 50’ depth of water! (Ok…a quick public service announcement: most camera gear and water don’t mix & most camera gear & Kevlar sailboat hulls don’t mix.) Ok, by this time, I’ve looked at the menu, pushed & pulled some dials and buttons, & I already know I’m going to have the salesman wrap it up for me, when I get to the counter -he says to me, here my friend now try the wide angle & the telephoto lens built for the camera. lol I thought… there are lens options with a pocket camera? That was about 5 years ago, and not only have I been able to do some nice work with it because it’s a really nice piece of kit, it’s also heaps of fun that’s tough as nails & it’s not afraid of water..

I just happen to have a quick read of your post, and have the most amazing memories of travelling up the Gold Coast to Cairns nearly 50 years ago now.. Great memories of places like Turtle sands.. and -Cairns although at that time it was s pretty quiet spot.. I free dove every day of that summer..the coral and sea life was epic! I envy you, mate.. Enjoy!

I think most people don't realize just how big Australia is. Some day I'll get there for vacation and I want to have at least 2 weeks.

You'll need at least 2 weeks (and unfortunately you'll only see a small part of it) It's definitely worth the visit though, this road trip has blown my mind many times over. Hope you are enjoying these travel themed videos :)

@@vanlifeshots yes I am. Thanks. It works out better for user reviews to have someone actually out using the gear while on trips, living with it daily. 👍🏻😊

I have a TG-5, it's not a bad camera but besides the macro features (and macro ring light), which are great. I don't find it very interesting.

Exactly what I was looking for. Someone actually using it in the video. Audio is good enough me. Just looking for something better than gopro for low light, zoom, and easy to use without breaking the bank.
