I learned under Jimmy out in San Diego. He’s a true master and took me as a 14 year old kid doing card tricks and shared a pitch with me, teaching me how to be better, and a real busker. Watching him work hours on end was a true gift, watching Poetry in Action. Getting them to stop stay and *pay* is important to be a busker. It’s learning how to convince people to pay you for your art - Doug is right that *some* people won’t pay and philosophically you shouldn’t be upset when they don’t - but it’s stop stay and pay for a reason. It’s an art in and of itself to ask for money and shouldn’t be overlooked. Cellini said Sound Color and Motion gather people’s attention. All 3 are important in their own way. Jimmy’s right that mimes or could be a silent act with a thumb tip if you just use your facial expressions to gather a crowd. It’s not just being a nuisance to draw a crowd, it’s being interesting. Interesting through sound color or motion, showing them a reason to watch you. Giving people a reason to watch you. No need to be reductionary to people who want to start out busking.
Jimmy is pure gold. Love it so much. So much character and you can't help but smile while he's talking. I love Danny goldsmiths fingertip pass. I learned it and it's my favorite thing to do. Can't muscle pass at all lol
Hey, Jimmy. You are so good. So, funny. You remind me why I became a magician. You took me to old school best of the best. Your busking skills really delight the crowd. You guys have good teaching on the technique of busking.
Hey Doug, Do you have any idea which cup(s) Jimmy is using for his one cup routine, seen in his more recent videos? Like what model and size? I appreciate any insight.. And I want to give Thanks to you both, for respecting the craft, and keeping magic alive. Stay classy gentlemen! 💪👊
Jimmy may already be doing something along this line but in the interest of bringing it up David Williamson has a schtick in his cups and balls routine in slight of dave with the balls and a squeaker. Great moment and great gag.
Could you suggest a trick where the rollover count would work well substituting for the Elmsley? I know the rollover achieves the same thing, but I’m looking for a trick where it makes sense to use the rollover to the table instead of the Elmsley in the hands. Thank you so much!! (It’s because I’m not too good at the Elmsley yet 😂)
Man, I cannot get enough of Jimmy. Thanks for having him on, Doug!
My. Two. Masters. Of. Buskin. Magic. Love. Both of you.
