- Today Nomad Talks about whether WitchTok has gone too far! I don't know, this is my first impression of it. I looked up a WitchTok compilation and got to reacting. WitchTok Spells at your door, or in your heart? What's the best of WitchTok that can be offered? Shoutout to all the screaming witches in the world!

Witchtok is sadly the community that gives witchcraft and spirituality a bad name because like many communities you have the extremists.
I'll try to explain the context behind some of the videos to give you an idea what it means:
0:37 The hexing the fey (also known as Faeries) and the moon thing started back in 2020. Supposedly a group of beginner witches thought it was funny it wish bad upon those two things. As of recently I think it was reveled that it was actually a joke created by someone and many people in the community took it and ran with it.
The 3 fold law originates from the religion Wicca a 1950's earth based religion created by a man named Gerald Gardner. His background is explained more in the Documentary Britain's Wicca Man.
Not every witch practices nor believes in the stuff Wicca teaches and in recent years Wicca has been looked at in a negative light because its against the concept of wishing bad on people as well as use gods/spirits from different cultures that usually like to remain "hidden" in a way (aka Cultural Appropriation).
White sage is used by a lot of native american tribes and the main problem people point out is that its Endangered and a lot of people outside the native community are not harvesting it ethically. There are many different types of sage out there in the world and one of the things most people use it for is spiritual cleansing (Removing bad energy from a person place or thing). This is known as Smoke cleansing.
Moldavite got popular in 2020 because it supposedly causes bad or sudden things to happen in your life.
Lemon hexes are just a trendy way to wish bad on a person without doing anything too complicate.
2:22 Spell bottles have been a thing for a very long time historically speaking but with Witchtok it popularized it.
Essentially every herb, charm, oil, crystal and sometimes prayer is infused with an intention. The idea is that it draws specific energy towards you or the person that you created it for. It is possible to do bad with it similar to the lemon hex.
3:38 Brick dust is something that is mostly practiced in Voodoo and Hoodoo. To my understanding its to help with success and protection against evil. You would usually sprinkle some near the door to your house. I personally don't work with powders so I can't fully comment on how its fully used.
4:43 This is something specific to tiktok the idea is that for all the trauma someone puts you through you reclaim those pieces of yourself that you lost. A spirit team usually refers to different spirits that are assigned to you at birth these can be Spirit guides, Familiars (Animal Spirits), Guardian Angels and Ancestors (which is practiced in many different Native/Indigenous cultures).
5:53 The audio you hear in the video is from a preacher named Greg Locke who is popular in the evangelical side of Christianity.
6:27 I'm not too sure exactly what they're trying to use those for but I believe its used in Necromancy (a form of magick where you interact with the dead)
7:16 Witchcraft requires concentration because depending on the path you're following a good portion of it is Meditation based and many people such as that poster struggle with doing it the usual way.
8:09 This is known as Herbalism where before we had doctors we had people who knew the land and knew what herbs help with what sickness you were going through the same applies for making soup. With Globalism and cultural diffusion a lot of practices started mixing with each other thus herbs, flowers and even animals would go to different parts of the world.
9:56 This is an example of using a spell jar for negative magick (i refuse to say baneful because of how much of a buzzword its become on there). Since tiktok's popularity doing spells on government officials have become a bit more popular.
10:29 Closed practices refer to practices that require initiation in order to use it.
11:08 a medium is a type of psychic that speaks to dead people and to an extent animals.

The sage things works, though. EMR entities tend not to like it. I've been haunted before in multiple funeral homes and apartments, and if you burn sage and salt the doorways and windows, they tend not to stick around.

Coffin nails aren't a thing. Maybe in the 3rd world, but not in the states. You might get some coffin wood screws. I've seen that, but nobody is selling specifically authentic nails for coffins.
And if a coffin is actually used? It's 99.99% used for cremation. Just a heads up.
I do like that some people just have gatekeep white sage to cleanse an area. As someone who is a practicing witch myself I would that bs like you can appreciate indigenous cultures and go find how how to traditionally do practices such as burning sage to cleanse an area. Like for example what if a person who is a practicing witch that also is German are they only allowed to do German forms of paganism like use runes or worship the Allfather Odin or Freya?No, that is like telling someone like me as a witch who is also a autistic person and also Mexican, Irish, and German with an interest is Hitler and the nazis; I could only work with the spirits of celts, Aztecs ( the Aztecs were actually called the mexichica if I spelled it even correct but I would used Aztec for anyone not familiar in history), Mayans, and Adolf Hitler and the spirits of the Nazi leader themselves.
