Since there's some comments I'll address a few things
In case you're wondering why I didn't talk about jontron saying bad things on a stream its because I would have nothing original to contribute (99% of people who clicked on this knew what happened) and also charity fraud is just 10 times funnier than racism. Jirard bragged so much about how he contributed to charity that it wrote itself. I Could have made a joke about jontron loving white people. But I didn't. Oh well!
Again with projared, you know he had grooming allegations, I can't really add anything original except making a throwaway joke that I didn't make. There have been video essays about that specific topic, if you care about that part of him, it's out there.
Like I said in the beginning, this isn't really about a history of normalboots, I just wanted to talk about what I wanted to with normalboots, and I didn't feel like talking about racism or grooming, and yes, charity fraud is hilarious.
You have a moral compass, I don't have to tell you that racism or sexting your fans is bad. I trust in your own decision making abilities!

Yeah it's easier to look at jontron and be like yeah he's an idiot bigot but makes funny videos, while TheCompletionist it's like- oh thats just not as funny to laugh at him for that.

@@Polychi1998I can help with this. When a creative person get better at what they do they’ll sometimes hate what they made previously. He just views his stuff not really good anymore. Many still like his older stuff, but for him he don’t view it since he grown so much then.

If you ever decide to do a followup, it should absolutely be about Hidden Block (Balrog, Brutalmoose, Caddicarus, Jimmy Whetzel, Space Hamster and Yungtown).
I remember watching them as much as, or even more than Normal Boots, and the fact I don't think any of them have gotten into any major controversy is surprising.
Caddy has gotten some flack for some questionable jokes from time to time but he usually tries to explain the context. (Prime example being a cut/replaced joke from his Disney PS1 games video) If it just doesn't land, he replaces it with a different joke.
Otherwise he's just creating massive hour to 2 hour videos with zany out of context humour.
Space Hamster went on the immediate defense for Jirard and talked sh about Karl Jobst.

Fun fact: I started being a caddicarus fan because of normal boots. I had never heard of him and didn’t know he existed until he appeared in Madness season 3 (the best “newer” normal boots show) so yeah, weird way to find the Cash Banooka guy

Normalboot’s MC hardcore series is underrated as hell.
I remember binging 2 seasons of that in a few days. The one where they're on the snowy mountain was tense.

NormalBoots was a big part of my 13-16 period- PBG, DYKG, Jon, and Greg on the Completionist. The ones I watched and the amount I watched them were very much like your own (including the "guess I gotta watch Jon's old videos instead" thing). Thank you for updating us on this subject that most of us now only care about enough to watch this video 👍👍

Honestly PBG was the only NormalBoots member besides early JonTron I watched every upload of. The G-Files series is what originally got me hooked and I've been a fan ever since!! I either watched some of the channels mentioned for a small bit before moving on, never did or they had drama attached that repulsed me from trying them again. The whole Did you know gaming mother's day 6 hour video drama was what stopped me from watching them besides growing out of the content they did at the time.
Out of the newer/ revived NormalBoots I only watched Chadtronic and that was only semi regularly as his videos were a hit n miss for me especially when he started the commercial review series, which I find enjoyable now but I didn't when they first came out. It was truly an era and I still think about the original Normalboots logo everytime I click on an old PBG video to rewatch.
I was the same. PBG and Jon could make any topic interesting to watch, whereas I didn't really want to watch a completionist episode of a game I didn't really have much interest in. It wasn't till I was quite a bit older that I would start watching ProJared, and I think that's because I became mature enough to want to listen about all the old obscure games he would make videos on.
DidYouKnowGaming was entertaining way back in the day, but going back to those old videos now you can tell how poorly researched a lot of them were. Their modern content is much better. Continue was just, like, there i guess. They never interested me as kid, and still really don't today. From what I can tell it seems like it's just unedited let's plays.
Out of the newest batch of creators, the only ones I ever watched were ProtonJon and Chadtronic. ProtonJon is hardly even a youtuber anymore, and Chad seems to have moved mostly away from gaming centric content, sort of similar to JonTron. Also Chad strikes me as a somewhat morally bankrupt person, just from what I've seen on twitter.
21:02 I glad I'm not the only one who noticed the voice overs, it always felt off when the person narrating it didn't sound like themselves. I guess the guy who the videos made the person narrating do 100 takes to make it sound like a professional voice over he how highly edited the way it sounds.
I do miss Satch.
I still follow him on Twitter, where he is completely rebranded since his NormalBoots days, but dude always seemed like the most chill guy this side of a video essayist. He seems to be doing fairly well outside of the internet.

I have been a fan of Continue since like 2011. They are still a favorite to go back to -- it feels like they are alwaya around. Lots of in jokes. Their podcasts (especially the one Josh did called Fantasy Fiction with Dom where they told stories) got me through so many days at the factory I worked at.

Excellent retrospective. I watched a ton of PBG and JonTron in college, never got into Continue because it was just a let's play, ProJared was a charisma vacuum, I watched a bit of The Completionist but he wasn't very funny either. Then, I got into HiddenBlock, which was like a low rent NormalBoots and Space Hamster was like a low rent PBG, watched a bit of BrutalMoose until he started doing weird food reviews, I think there was another ugy there called YungTown that did really off-the-wall humor?
I've never forgotten Greg, I loved him so much.
