"Take" the lane isn't even the correct way to describe it. You're USING the lane, just like anyone else. Just using the lane. You're not "taking" anything. Makes it sound like the lane disappears. Remember, the folks behind you have brakes and steering wheels. If they don't have the skill to figure out how to get around a simple bicycle, there's a good chance they wouldn't have made it home anyway.
0:45 let me get this straight this driver decided to take a picture of a cyclist coming down a hill and used their phone to take said a picture behind the wheel of a automobile
@user-rt2jo3cu8n the cyclist may have positioned themself to not allow the car to pass for very safe reasons. The road is already marked with a double yellow line, indicating this is not a good place to be passing. Even if the cyclist was on the far right, a passing vehicle would still need to go left of center. The obscured view of the curved roadway ahead does not give the driver sufficient knowledge that it will be safe to travel left of center. That cyclist may be saving lives.
So I get the take a lane concept, but how about when the bike lane is perfectly wide for cyclists, yet they ride three in tandem and spill out into the driver’s lane. That is not only “cyclist entitlement “, but super dangerous. Help!
If you listened one of the laws allows them to use the full lane if they're going the speed limit. If so they are allowed to use the full lane and no one is allowed to pass them since they are doing the speed limit. Let's see you ride the white line riding 45mph and let cars pass. Bet you can't do it. Some of these bikes with the right rider go 25-45mph easily. And cost more than your car. Set your alarm clock earlier.....this is the real problem
No one is required to go the speed limit. On _interstate highways_ a driver can be cited for obstructing traffic if they don't keep right when traveling slower than 10MPH below the limit, but unlicensed vehicles such as bicycles &
Glad people are finding out about this, but bicyclists need to start observing other traffic laws. They want all the benefits of being a pedestrian and a vehicle but none of the drawbacks of either
I agree that ALL people engaged in transport should observe the LAW. Folks who ride bikes should. Folks who walk should. And, gasp…. Even folks who drive cars and trucks should. But, we all know that every single automobile driver is perfect - every one of them. They never run stop lights, they always come to a FULL stop at stop signs, they never speed, they never, ever, kill pedestrians in cross walks or sidewalks, they always signal their turns or lane changes, they NEVER drive distracted or on substances. Nope. Drivers are perfect…. Every single one of them. But, since we know that isn’t true, it Seems that automobile drivers want all of the benefits of driving but none of the drawbacks.
How many car drivers stop at stop signs? Maybe 1 in 6? Yeah nobody follows the traffic laws to a tee. They were designed for multi-ton vehicles anyways, not bicycles or people running.
"slowing down traffic" ... _And?_ What's the alternative route? Maybe if everyone weren't trying to fit their own multiton vehicles down the same roadway, there'd be a lot less traffic... Try getting to Evergreen from Denver for the day, without taking an automobile up those roads. Slow traffic is just one of the prices paid, for failing to accommodate other transit.
Hey, cars are already making folks fat, lazy, and greedy, even as they fill the air with pollution. STILL NOT ENOUGH!!! MOTORISTS NEED TO OCCUPY EVERY INCH OF EVERY ROADWAY!! GET OUT OF OUR WAY!!!!
Cars do take the lane. Taking the lane just means _being centered in the lane,_ as opposed to hugging the shoulder so as to encourage overtaking without an empty lane to pass in. Never encourage others to pass when there isn't a lane to do so. Hence cycling advice to "take the lane": Entirely in the lane or entirely out of it; choose one.
The single rider was protecting himself taking the whole lane. Can you imagine how many drivers would have buzzed the guy at high speed if he was to the right by the curb. He would have been run off the road. 😢

The answer to #2 is simple. Follow the rider(s) at a safe distance until it's safe to pass, then pass with at least 3 feet of separation between the side of your vehicle and the side of the rider. And did you know... Colorado law permits you to pass a slower-moving bicyclist over a solid yellow centerline as long as you can see far enough ahead to do it safely. See Colorado Revised Statute 42-4-1005.
