your little helper is adorable, she reminds me of my daughter when she was a young helper. I have killed a whole afternoon watching one video after another of Emily. I really enjoy the topics and fun you both have.
First off I love the show, it's good to see Zen coming together. Emily and Aaron y'all rock. I have a 240 z so I'm excited to see what's next. Sincerely Justin
What a AWESOME episode!!! Love how you work together, your little girl is quite a character!! She love the camera!! The Z car is a perfect project. Brings back many memories of working on them at the foreign shop I worked at. The DatZen plates will be a perfect fit! Thanks for the insight and behind the scenes. One of the best so far!! and yes, Aaron is the man!!
I am rewatching the Datzen series from the beginning here on July 4th weekend 2022. What an amazing time for you guys in your journey and me as a sub forever.
So glad you guys are doing this build. I've got my dad's old '71 240Z waiting for time and money to become available. I'm personally not that into V-8 swaps into Z-cars but totally understand why you're going this route. Looking forward to seeing this come together.
I love this show, it's like roadkill but they do it right!! The other thing is "it's a half inch." "It's a 12" it's also a Japanese car it's most likely metric!!! If only there were more couples who enjoyed working on cars together!! They are such a blessing to each other.
i love the little doggie running backwards and forwards, i image him screaming "IM HELPING, IM HELPING!!!" then Emily takes him off the trolley "Im not helping "
Wow, I just stumbled across this show. It feels like I'm seeing a version of my own personal heaven (right down to the Z car with a V-8 and stick-shift❤️). But it makes me sad while I'm watch'n it... Well, 'cause I'm pretty sure I've already missed all my chances at ever having a "Happy Life". These days I'm just try'n like hell to work my way towards a "Tolerable Life". If I can manage that, I'll consider myself lucky at this point. 🍻✌️
Andrew Carson Bro! You ain’t dead YET!!! Happiness is all in our heads anyway, if we’re alive and kickin’ we can have a HAPPY LIFE!! There’s so damn much to be grateful for, I’d bet if you work to focus on anything you’re thankful for- more stuff will come about to be grateful for!! Don’t settle for thoughts of a tolerable life, be thankful you have the opportunity to live a great life! If there’s anyway we can do to help, let us know. 👊🏼
Flying Sparks Garage Thank you, sincerely. Just really tired and I guess I'm in a bit of a pessimistic mood today, sorry about that. I've been work'n my ass off to get my life back on track after a more than a few big time set backs over the last few years, but I AM making progress in the right direction👍. Just turned 40 a few months ago (which still doesn't feel real to me, lol), so I know that gets in my head. It's like, "How the hell can I be 40 when I can still do a back-flip off a porch?!?" 😂. I'll try to be more positive! 👊 Thanks again, and you guys take care.
Loving the inclusion of the kids! I take every opportunity to include my kids when we are working on my race car in the shop and at the track.I always say, "Teach them to love cars and they will never have money for alcohol or drugs!" LOL Seriously though, they are the next generation of caretakers for the history that we have been entrusted with. We are but stewards to the history that has been created before us. Advice: This tip comes from the dirt oval world where we have to change the suspension dynamics on our cars on the fly in response to changing track conditions throughout the night. For cheap suspension tuning, cut out factory mounts and replace with 2" wide mounts you can make yourself then build components (control arms, tie rods, etc.) out of heim joints and swedge tubes (available at any local dirt track speed shop). Once you get it dialed in, then go ahead and have them custom fabricated. For a road car, it is the equivalent of rapid prototyping. You can make a change, go drive it and then evaluate and change if you want to in a matter of minutes rather than days. I have used this method to tune the suspension on many of my projects with crazy drive train swaps and it works well for me. It also helps if you have a set of load cell scales at your disposal...lol
this show is amazing... i have watched like 5 episodes already as much as i love roadkills big budget adventures. your show is killer informative mixed with fantastic new school tv personalities!!!!! i cant wait to watch the rest of the episodes!!!!! keep going and you will have that roadkill budget in no time....
Emily; Haven't watched the whole video yet but had to remark that your smile is prettin near the best thing about UA-cam... Had to get that off my chest, (again). Or, put another way, your smile makes me smile. How does that even work? RE the car? I did the front floor portions of my 74 GMC Sprint from galvanized sheet back before these "panel reproducers" even had a glimmer of a future market in repops... Still works/ looks great after 19 years. Finally got around to the actual restoration 6 years ago, finishing last fall. Who knew? Be safe.
ultimate level of relationship goals ,awesome work guys ,I love the z cars I have a 300zx right now and it's the best car I've ever had ,love the vids keep up the awesome work
At 7:52 when you both get back under the car to begin working again, the little one starts to walk across frame and waves at the camera. You are subtly (instinctively) watching her as she makes her way then softly smile to yourself at her wave as your eyes look up following the direction of her wave. I love those sweet moments of motherhood. Mostly unseen and unnoticed in real world day to day life. Im glad for her and you that it was captured here. I remember many many years ago when dropping my sisters off at elementary school a young-ish mother caught my eye. Not so much her looks, though attractive, but something about her mannerism. I stopped and watched her daughter tip toe as she kissed her good-bye with a final tug on her little back pack securing it for her. The little girl did the little not quite skipping, but not walking, just enough to make the hair bounce cuz life is still good and simple skip. I watched her mother standing arrow straight with legs together, hands clasped in front of her with the same smile she kissed her daughter with. The smile never wavered the entire time as her daughter disappeared into the sea of children. The mother didnt move until her daughters last lock of hair disappeared beyond the door frame. The sweet smile of pride and love watching over her. As the last sign of her daughter left her sight, she gave the most subtle of a nod to nobody but herself...still smiling. It was not the first day of school. For whatever weird reason, other than Im weird, that image has always always stayed with me. Anyhow, the moment at 7:52 immediately reminded me of that day so many years ago and has been added to that mental library of sweet moments like that. Pardon the long comment. Great video. Great couple. Good project. Found you because you have done jeep stuff. Good talk. Thanks.
Lone Warrior I have to say, that is a very kind, well thought out and heartfelt comment! Thank you so much for that! And we appreciate you watching! We love having out niece right next door because often when we're working in the shop, she's by our sides. 😊 it's very sweet and we will cherish the memories and these episodes! ❤😉
Flying Sparks Garage My apologies, I did mistakenly imply she was your daughter when I mentioned motherhood. A lovely moment none-the-less. You have natural instincts. Thank you for the response and pardon the mistake. Have a lovely day/evening.
You guys are fun to watch! I really enjoy watching you both. I too have a 78 Z and plan to swap the engine for an LS1 or some sort of LS motor. I've also had the car for quite awhile. (10+ years) I pulled the motor and trans. Gas tank. Trashed the exhaust and now she sits, covered in my sisters barn. Lol. Please keep the videos/tutorials coming. I'm looking forward to seeing this build come along. Down here in San Antonio Texas...looking for the next Zen upload!
WOW love your work guys , Im in the process of working on my 77 280 z and I was shocked to see they made this in a diesel!!! kEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ! Love the mini mouse shop outfit!
I am so thankful I found this channel, I really do like it! Something about your energy and your personality just puts off a good vibe! It's also cool you are close with the roadkill guys, another channel I really like! Keep the great videos coming please. . I typically do not subscribe to channels because of the annoying notifications, but I look forward to notifications from this channel!!
You are very welcome! It was rude not say something about your husband, he seems like a really cool guy and yall work great together! It is really nice to be in a relationship and share the same passions and can work at it together! You 2 are lucky to have each other!!
Best video yet I agree! About 1976+ - a friend and mechanic was building this same car. This time with all small block chevy and corvette power train. Hard to forget the performance of a custom build 350 in this Datsun. Same conclusion you came to the Datsun suspension stayed in place. It also had some upgrades for better handling. In all this car came out beautiful and handled as well maybe better than any corvette of the time.
I just sub'd a few days ago, and I'm catching up on all the episodes from the start. I loved the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" when I read it years ago. Anyway, love the show, Aaron and Emily, you're the best!
I'm doing the same swap to my 260z right now except I'm using an LS1/T56 with Hoke Performance trans and engine mounts and Hawks American Racing long tube headers. Can't wait to see what you guys do!
You two give me hope I'll find me a woman who is into the same thing I am working and learning on cars trucks whatever. Yalls videos are awesome informative and very well done Emily you are such a great inspiration for women. Keep it fresh yall
Ok this is ridiculous. Aaron how did you find a Diane Lane look-a-like that loves to work on cars! What a delight you are Emily! Love you guys! Keep up the good work.
Psst, I pulled my SBC out of my 260 z over the fender. Stupid cheap hoist hit the grill and I was too lazy to take grill off. So zip lf wheel off... engine stand here comes a 21 year old SBC. Broke 2 R-200's so use caution and was barely making LS power then, but doing some stuff in.. um, Mexico and the track. Love the Zen, and next time need sammich, Jimmy Johns.
280Zen! Badges coming soon! Kidding! Looks like you have a lot to do in a short amount of time! I keep seeing your GTO and it makes me wish I never got rid of mine! Sad....
Flying Sparks Garage I should've said I watched it again. Because I watched it a couple of months ago. But today I was looking for some Datsun videos to watch and I remembered how good that video was so I watched it again.
As someone who has had metal dust get in my eye TWICE in a week and need to have it removed and eyeball polished, eye protection is key. I ended up getting similar to ski goggles made by dewalt off of Amazon
A suggestion for anyone that is restoring or doing metal work is to to undercoat their car and use por15 on and around the new welded area's then paint over it in the car or under coat inside and outside the car or something that will protect it from getting worse.
Hey EM i like the idea of putting a t56 in my project car that ive been workin on for a ls swap and was wondering if the t56 needs or has cooling lines and if its doesn't does that go for all manuel transmissions or only the t56?
very cool hate to see your doing an LS because everyone has done one but I understand the reasoning for it you have it might as well use it. also cute kid glad to see instead of shooing her out of the garage and out of the shoot you let her hang around and help a little bit good parenting right there as far as I'm concerned.
Jimmy Turner Yeah, the LS thing is like ehhhh!!! But it'll be so good. The kiddo is our niece, she lives next door- comes over quite frequently!! Sometimes wrenches with me, in the trans swap episode recently she's getting good work done! Haha! Thanks for watching!!!
Flying Sparks Garage she may be your niece but you're still being a parent and a role model to her so again good parenting on both your parts. can't wait to see what you do different with the ls I hope you intake it and put a 4 Barrel on instead of fuel injection
6:57 OHC Diesel. Wait... Seriously? DIESEL?! What model is it? (Gears in my head start turning... what kind of power would it make with twin compound turbos and 40 lbs of boost...)
Awesome series you two......and ya little ones and the little puppy doc........you both have so much style and leave the youtube wannabes standing by the cyber way side.........thanks
Where did that car come from? That's a lot of rust for a Texas car. Don't worry about changing the engine to the LS, it moves the center of gravity back and lowers it at the same time. I would like to know what the weight for the two are, the LS my weight less than that six is heavy. I want to keep up with this build because I know where a 280 ZX is sitting.
Flying Sparks Garage another thing that's pretty darn close is 1/2 inch and 12 mm so you were both right, but on the year of that car they used standard so half inch was correct.
I live on the south east coast of texas and its not uncommon for rust because of the salt air near the ocean. Especially if it sat in a field. Not sure where specifically this car came from though.
much better than my first car i had to fix the big rust holes by puttting in sheet metal plates and gallons of rustolem paint, then homemade floor boards, yea
Ya'll are cool. 2 people that belong together. Doing what you love. I taught my girlfriend how to play golf and she is really good and getting better. she likes my 06 mustang gt convertible but she doesn't want to go to the races and frowns when I speak of making my 97 mustang into a dragster. All she wants to do is dance and have NO... romance, I consider myself a romantic guy. Our first date I took her to the drive-in theater in my Convertible and she said it was cheesy. I was like "Say WHAaat" and she really likes cheese! We have been together 5 yrs.I showed her the bike I want to buy. ( Harley- Breakout) so we can go cruising and she is like saying "Ride like the wind" but she will never get on my bike. I'm glad ya'll are living the dream. Thanks for showing me there is another way to live with some sort of harmony. Peace.
PLEASE HELP :O but awesome video guys, my frame emails aren't quite as bad but need to do something about them. did you just cut off the bottom an replaced it etc? did this effect the strength at all while there was nothing there? could really do with some help as very new to the whole car resto life hahah
When you said Zen...thought hmmm. Dot zen, like dot com. Dat zen works well too. Nice name. Every car should have a name. Found your channel a couple days ago. Love gearhead stuff, subscribed.
That little girl is bright as a new penny! I love what she adds to the videos. She's very smart, too.
Currently restoring my Lotus and I got a Datsun 240. The Datsun been in a barn for 28 years. I'm 17 I love your channel! Keep it up guys!
your little helper is adorable, she reminds me of my daughter when she was a young helper. I have killed a whole afternoon watching one video after another of Emily. I really enjoy the topics and fun you both have.

Joe Valentino Was thinking the same thing. My cars dying to be wrenched on, but way too cold in MA-Jim

I just sub'd a few days ago, and I'm catching up on all the episodes from the start. I loved the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" when I read it years ago. Anyway, love the show, Aaron and Emily, you're the best!

Thank you for another excellent video. You have to pause now for a moment of Dat-Zen.

Flying Sparks Garage I should've said I watched it again. Because I watched it a couple of months ago. But today I was looking for some Datsun videos to watch and I remembered how good that video was so I watched it again.
I've always liked Z cars cool build since you are adding an LS have you considered a cage for added safety and help stiffen the chassis ?
Doug Kimball Eventually, we will 😎
As someone who has had metal dust get in my eye TWICE in a week and need to have it removed and eyeball polished, eye protection is key. I ended up getting similar to ski goggles made by dewalt off of Amazon
Nice video fun to watch other couples that act like my wife and I doing projects as a team.
love the videos .maybe I can get my 5th trans am project going soon
Mfactory sells a LSD for $900. Just installed it this weekend. Sometimes they do a group buy on HybridZ for $700.
You can also swap in an infinity center section for relatively cheap. Personally I want to go full Arizona Z Car when I get mine.
What was that cutting tool you were using? That thing looked awesome, good job
I love your niece. She is the star of the show.
Thanks for another great video, I always enjoy watching them. Don't pay any attention to the haters, its ya'lls build, do it the way you want to.

How to Build a Roadkill car the right way .less rust and way more LS power and twin turbos. Mike and Dave will be proud.
Cool car, cool name. This will be a cool project to follow.
Y'all should do a video with Roadkill and the Rotsun after y'all's Dotsun is finished!!
this is the best car show ever. real work. real people, who happen to be super attractive, and kids!
Ok, time to start goading the Roadkill guys into a Rotsun/Dat-Zen showdown on Powertour, especially since they ditched the 4.3L.
Really happy you guys have kept the Nova ! Don't sell the Nova ! :)

Great video....and the car project is primo.....
150k is nothing for an LS as long as it looks good it is. I noticed cam cover said diesel did you build a 3.1 L stroker?
Not sure what that green stuff in a spary can was but if you really want the best RUST inhibitor, check out POR15
Still waiting to see what the diesel goes in
She is adorable in her lil pink safety glasses!
Would it be easier to pull the body off of the frame to do this. Then you could also get to both sides for painting...
very cool hate to see your doing an LS because everyone has done one but I understand the reasoning for it you have it might as well use it. also cute kid glad to see instead of shooing her out of the garage and out of the shoot you let her hang around and help a little bit good parenting right there as far as I'm concerned.
Tunes? Exhaust? Maybe a little more spring in the front end.
GEE! Quick release!
I read that book many years ago
Datzen! Excellent, keep up the good work. Spent sat morning stripping 40 year old rear window tint off. Aircraft paint stripper won the day.
Where did that car come from? That's a lot of rust for a Texas car. Don't worry about changing the engine to the LS, it moves the center of gravity back and lowers it at the same time. I would like to know what the weight for the two are, the LS my weight less than that six is heavy. I want to keep up with this build because I know where a 280 ZX is sitting.
kenhar1000 The weight is pretty damn close to the same!
kenhar1000 Oh, and as far as we know- a Texas car but heck- she had a ton of rust!!!
Not sure where specifically this car came from though.
half inch is 13mm not 12mm
much better than my first car i had to fix the big rust holes by puttting in sheet metal plates and gallons of rustolem paint, then homemade floor boards, yea
If went out of Shelding gas over night you better check all the threads gaskets etc if they're any leaks
I think I love Emily!
got to love them z cars they are awesome......i would like to have one someday
I love you guys ! the sandwich thing is a real issue tho :)
Tyler Wildman He goes hungry a lot. 🤣🤣🤣🙈
When working on the Z 10mm, 12mm 14mm you have 90% of your bolts covered. Took 3 years of Saturday to build my 78Z
you guys should have used weld through primer on the areas you left bare to make sure it won't rust.
How did I miss this channel!!!??!?!?!
Peace.
your a luck man she is awesome
