- The Christmas Dockyard event is out, leading to the utterly terrible HMS Marlborough which is a tier 9 battleship with guns that aren't even as good as those on the tier 5 USS New York. Halfway to this tier 9 turd, however, you can get the extremely nice tier 6 HMS Repulse.

HMS Repulse and PoW was indeed sunk off Malaya, however their escorts were not. They rescued a majority of the crew from the two capital ships.
Most of Repulse's crew was rescued by HMS Electra, the same destroyer that rescued the three survivors of HMS Hood.

Actually, Jingles, their escorts were not sunk. Destroyers HMS Express, Electra, Tenedos, and HMAS Vampire, the four escorts, were not actually even attacked. It is why most of the crew of Repulse and the Prince of Wales survived, they were rescued by the destroyers. The Japanese on this occasion did not machine-gun the survivors in the water and deliberately withheld from attacking the destroyers while they were picking up survivors (an operation that left the ships practically stationary and an easy target).

@@venomous2die4 Nah, each shift in the salt mine is only 4 hours i think so 16 hours a day and it has a high volume of workers so the shifts are short as a result with fast worker rotation.
True, HMS Electra was sunk in the Battle of the Java Sea, not with HMS Repulse.
HMAS Vampire is currently a Museum ship at the Maritime Museum in Sydney

If you want history, read the Wikipedia articles. Jingles usually just summarizes them. At least since he mostly stopped literally reading them out word for word.
I remember playing a mission in Battlestations Midway where I was the Fuso. I had fought nothing but cruisers and destroyers and then the Repulse came around the corner. Nearly shat myself.
I come from Malaysia (formerly Malaya) and I always took a keen liking to ships that have a certain history to my country, thanks for today's video jingles

Her last captain William Tennant was quite an impressive sailor as well, took part in the high level, organised evacuations at Dunkirk, chased zee germans around and set up the Mulberry Harbours at Normandy. He might have lost the Repulse but at the day and age, its not exactly an unremarkable event with the substandard AA and heavy Airpower being thrown around
He may have lost Repulse. But wasn't easy to put Repulse. If I remember correctly. She dodged upwards of 5-20 torpedoes before finally being hit. Which if you ask me. That's bloody impressive.
When the Americans saw what happened to Force Z, I bet that the smarter navy officers might've breathed a sigh of relief. At least their battle fleet was sunk in harbour. If it had been attacked at sea like Force Z was, the results could've been many times more horrific.
@@Cailus3542 yeah considering only arizona was a permanent sinking and that was more due to all the sailors still trapped inside making it a significant war grave all the rest were back in action by the end of the war and for the Americans they could afford the money, time and resources to fix them (and tbh they probs could've just built a load of new ones if they had been sunk at sea). Pearl harbour was really a tactical victory for the allies, it's main consequence was America joining the war and ensuring they would want payback.
@@leodesalis5915 Fixing them wasn't as easy as you make it sound. Particularly because docking space large enough for the BBs was limited and also had to be used for other large vessels operating in the area like the CV task groups. Also getting them actually off the ground could be difficult.
But yeah, at least it was possible and the Americans managed it remarkably well.
Building new BBs would have taken far longer but at the time the Navy realized that the age of the BB was coming to a close and building many new ones wasn't worth it.
They also had the option of transferring some from the Atlantic as they weren't exactly needed over there.
@@leodesalis5915 Actually, a couple weren't repaired. Some were scrapped because even though they *could* have been repaired, it wasn't worth the effort due to the ships being so old that even with upgrades they were too far behind the curve anyway.

I was watching Sea Raptors stream last night and he played Repulse. And we were commenting on how it takes damage like a cruiser. And the general consensus was “this is how it should be and this is actually a good thing”
Jingles completely misses the fact repulse has a 9 inch main belt and a 6 inch upper belt. The 6 inch isnt the main belt XD but i suppose just jingles being jingles.

I believe HMS Repulse was designed with the intention of being fast enough to outrun anything that out gunned it and strong enough to obliterate anything fast enough to catch it.
Funny enough her sister Renown was the Better ship as she had been far more modernized via refits. She was also known throughout the fleet for her outstanding gunnery.
Speed too, during shuttle runs taking Churchill to conferences she topped out at 35 knots. If she got the same treatment as repulse that would give her a top speed of over 42 knots. More if WG'ing got cheecky and gave her french style speed boost. Catch me if you can.
It would be nice if they would eventually release her as a tier 7 or even a tier 8 like they did with Dunkirk and Strasbourg....
@@ashleighelizabeth5916 I'm still waiting on a USS Houston which is long overdue btw. I'd have much rather had her than fictional paper ships like Austin and Dallas... Blegh. Those cities didn't even get names till far far later, though a canceled Des Moines class cruiser was to be named Dallas and Austin was an Amphibious Dock ship.

@@ashleighelizabeth5916 the Northampton CA-30 as she is by far the most famous, plus she's been highly demanded ever since Perth was released. I'd see her as a Pensacola with one less gun in exchange for a better turret and armor layout and excellent AA for it's tier, probably tier VI. The historical ship was known for its AA gunnery performance in combat.

those boys on the Repulse earned my utmost respect, the amount of torpedoes they dodged in a battlecruiser is astonishing, and honestly its rivaled by NO USN warship

Started playing WOWS one month ago (thanks to Jingles' videos) and just got the Repulse :)
So far the Edinburgh and Jaguar are my go to vessels ... can't wait to add a good battle"ship" to the ranks.
Good to see the hype for HMS Repulse is real in the community.
That makes me ask myself how WoWS would have been if only real ships or unfinished ships were introduced.
The game and the community would have probably been a lot more history focused and also less arcade or gamey than it is…

Well, enough nostalgia, glad we have the Repulse in the present, that’s what matters after all.
Unfortunately, it looks like I'll never have the pleasure of trying out the Repulse - with the economy and inflation the way it is these days, I've decided it's more important to have money for food electricity and medical insurance, than to spend it on pixel boats in an online game.
you should be able to unlock it in free to play. I'm certainly going to try to do so and I have no intention of giving wargaming another penny, they have had enough of my money in the past.

HMS Repulse is one of my top 10 favourite warships for RN warships... so this is something I quite like to see

3:23, It should also be noted that even after WW2 Renown was still the fastest Capital Ship in the Royal Navy managing 32.58 knots, she also had a record on par with Warspite but was in way better condition, amazing condition in fact.

Wow - for a ship that had only just come out that day, to have *four* Repulse's in a *single* match means that it must be _very_ popular.....
I hope renown is added as part of the British battle cruiser line. She was much more modernised than repulse and could therfore be put at tier 7 which a couple of changes. Then the refitted hood could be tier 8 with the improved ap shells you get on vanguard.
Or you could have the Renown at T6 like the Repulse and have a bog standard Admiral class (Anson most likely) at T7 (ie without all the Hood's upgrades, hence why it won't be at T8)

And they could have the 6inch belt replaced with the 9inch belt that was fitted to the ships after they commissioned.
Make that a hull upgrade, though why they used the original belt on a ship what is obviously post WW1 is typical of WGing.
Hi Jingles, My fathers squadron 465 flew over the sinking of Prince of Wales and Repulse after their sinking. They flew from Ipoh. They were ready to give air cover, but were not directed to do so. Another SNAFU, as you said. They were fighting Zeros in Brewster Buffalos. They were just given a bearing and distance to fly . They weren't told the ships were ours until they returned. Just a bit of history....
I used to love playing with the Renown class ships back in the See Krieg miniatures rules system. Not too sure how this is gonna work out in WOWS

Back in the days when they introduced Czech meds in WoT, someone had T10 in few hours after update. I Calculated estimated free xp was around 600tk, and ofcourse atleast 6 million credits.

Currently only in dockyard. That said since she’s the middle point, you can get her fairly easily through grinding the first half of the missions for free along with Dreadnought.

I hope Repulse comes back because I started playing after the event ended, although I have heard rumors of an upcoming British battlecruiser line.

For a tier 6 it’s enormous though. The Andrea Doria is 550ft and the repulse is 790.

We may not have the actual HMS Repulse or HMS Prince of Wales around, but at least we have the Actual HMS Belfast albeit in her Cold War period Configuration with her World War Two period Admiralty 3 color Camouflage pattern and even still, we have the Ship girls of Azur Lane to look forward to seeing every now and again. Yes, I just saw Hurricane Studios' latest video of his Azur Lane "…is Worth it" series with HMS Repulse. As her Japanese Voice line goes "Nerette… Pon!"
Santa's mega containers have been underwhelming so far... I got three of those - and it was just special flags, 30 per. These are nice, but some kind of a ship - or a bunch of gold - would've been nicer. I might be able to grind enough tokens before the event ends for one more mega container... Expecting more flags, though )))
I've only opened the basic containers and they have indeed been extremely disappointing. I think I've gotten 9 so far and all but one of them were crap flags and camo, as was the random super container I got today. Only good thing I've gotten from Santa was 200 doubloons. The anniversary containers were far better and to be honest I'd rather have more steel for my tier 10 snowflakes.

At last, HMS Repair will be mine. WeeGee gave me a boodle of boxed doubloons over the months, and I finally found something to spend them on. Four more dock phases will be a cinch even with my haphazard playing schedule.

Having finally gotten this ship. It’s easily my favorite T6 ship in the game, and a close second to the JB in terms of favorite overall ship in game. It doesn’t seem to matter whether or not I do well in the game or not, the ship is fun to play.

British Battlecruisers in WoWs should get a main battery reload booster - but if you get hit and penetrated while it's active you automatically detonate.....
Jingles, I enjoy your videos, however at 1:48 you claimed the escorts to Force Z were also sunk by the Japanese. Unfortunatley this is incorrect. HMAS Vampire, HMS Express and HMS Electra rescued survivors and did make it back to Sinagapore.

Not cruiser dispersion, she uses Graf Spee's dispersion which is still very good for a BB though. Also found on ships like Alaska and Thunderer.
My wife spent enough money to get the Repulse and has no intention of completing the Marlborough. With the "Brisk" skill, a speed flag and the engine power consumable, she got the Repulse up to 39.2 knots. That is INSANE!

Repulse does not in fact have cruiser dispersion, but battlecruiser dispersion like Alaska, Azuma, Yoshino, and the new German Battlecruiser line.

Faced Repulse in a Strassbourg, and noted that the brit has no great armor vs 320 mm guns. And about Marlborough: smoke kills.

Many years ago, I played Avalon Hill's Victory in the Pacific. At the start of the game, HMS Prince of Wales (4-5-6), and HMS Repulse (3-3-6) are in the game. They're get sunk by the Japanese every time, the easiest way to do it is with land based aircraft.
Technically there is actually one heavy cruiser in the Repulse's MM bracket that can overmatch its bow with AP....the Cheshire.

Timing. Kings and Generals is doing a series on the Pacific war and just covered initial japanese advances into the British and dutch far east and the sinking of Prince of Wales and Repulse. Did a pearl harbor video on the 7th and did a few background videos before that. Highly recommend. Great videos from a great channel.

Indeed.... Outside of the low and mid tier German battlecruiser line just released almost everything WG is pushing out these days is a paper ship. The Italian DDs will be another welcome addition of real steel ships...
@@ashleighelizabeth5916 Yeah for the most part the German battlecruisers existed up to tier 6 with real ships and all the Italian DD existed except for the tier 9 Adriatico which is basically the Tashkent design with Italian Guns and torpedos. So not entirely a paper ship but since one like her existed which was the Tashkent that was built it Italy.

i remember a story about repulse/prince of wales: one of the officers was having dinner with family + told them about his posting. His son replied that they'd teach the Japanese to back down + he just replied: "you don't know what you're saying" 'cos he knew Churchill's ego had got the better of him + just given the ships an enforced death-sentence. Even if force z was never attacked by planes, it would not have achieved anything or altered the war. Plus, uk aircraft carriers were largely crap, so they wouldn't have had much effect even if they had air-cover. [el'sda2].

Don't get your hopes up Jingles. 40 T10s. Changed for 10 big gifts and 10 normal gifts +2 for free. result = 7500 coal and crap flags and camo. Funny enough got 1 supercontainer on first daily = 25 of the good flags... So that made me close my wallet!!!
I unlocked her yesterday and hit 39.3kts with brisk, Mike Sierra, and boost. Awesome ship and lots of giggles when I'm keeping up with DDs 🤣
At the time of her loss, Repulse, despite having only six guns, had the reputation of being the best gunnery ship in the Royal Navy; WoW got something right for once. However, the iteration of Repulse shown here had a 9-inch armoured belt, a modification done in the early to mid 1920's. the original 6-inch belt was moved up above the new 9-inch belt covering half of the height of the 38mm hull plating, which, when combined, resulted in hull protection equivalent to 7-inches of armour. So, 9-inch lower belt protecting the turtleback deck slopes, a 6-inch upper belt (plus 38mm protective plating) protecting the flat of the turtleback deck, and 38mm hull side between the main and upper decks.
During her final battle, Repulse, despite her inferior AA, inflicted the only casualties suffered by the Japanese by shooting down two aircraft compared to zero from Prince of Wales' more extensive and modern AA battery. Also, it took a lot more to put down Repulse; one bomb and five torpedoes. The first torpedo to hit Prince of Wales was the hit that sank her.
It is unfortunate Admiral Phillips withdrew before contacting either the Japanese heavy cruisers or the Kongo's operating off Malaya. Repulse and Prince of Wales were lost whatever happened, but, against the surface targets available, I feel Repulse would have given a very good account of herself.
But how was he supposed to find them when he was already spotted by plane and submarine and still had no idea where they were?
Her sister was also well regarded for her outstanding gunnery.
Imagine if both ships had survived long enough to break for Australia and join up with ABDA command. The IJN would be in for a nasty surprise at Java sea then as Phillips would have outranked Doorman by seniority.

@@grandadmiralraeder9608 yeah but they'd have no ships in the fleet that were fully operational that could take on a King George V class battleship or Renown class Battlecruiser one one one. The Yamatos were just working up at this time. So they only thing they could send are the Kongos which in no way are a match for either Prince of Wales or Repulse. I believe Uncle Drach mentioned this topic in one of his Drydocks.

In her final, late-WW2 state Renown was serviceable.
In her final, early-WW2 state, Repulse really had no business fighting a surface engagement against enemies shipping BB-caliber guns.
Lovely ship, I wonder how many people know that it was either this ship or its sister that got the longest-ranged hit on another warship?
They should keep that in mind.... maybe it is why they gave it "Cruiser" accuracy?

For some reason, when I saw the Repulse in the title, I thought of the scene from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull where Mutt fought Irina in a sword duel ... along with poor Mutt getting hit in the balls by plants during the duel.
I'm sad that I started playing the game a couple months too late to get Repulse. I just hope that Renown will appear in a possible British battlecruiser line. Renown is one of my favorite capital ships.
I'm no Admiral or Field Marshal, but when I look back through history, I am stunned by some of the idiotic decisions made by top brass. Sending Repulse and PoW without sufficient cover was an extremely risky move which obviously proved fatal, it should have been expected that Japanese submarines would be roaming the Pacific and Task Force Z should have been held back and always have been within short range of an aircraft carrier, had HMS Indomitable or another carrier assigned to Force Z had been there, both vessels may have survived the attack.
