CB500X - Solo Norway trip Part 36 - Picturesque German towns

- This is Part 36 of my trip continuing the journey in Germany. I got up early and took a stroll nearer the town, managing to get some drone footage, before heading off, continuing west, through some beautiful German towns and villages. They remind me of the chocolate box lid pictures from my youth. I came through an area of very grey, pale brown trees, they looked completely dried out / dead, I assume dry, hot weather was responsible. I booked into a beautiful guesthouse in Bad Holzhausen, Germany and enjoyed a walk around the very tranquil town before turning in for the night.
The whole journey took me through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and into Norway right the way up to Nordkapp, the furthest point you can travel by motorcycle or car in mainland Europe and then back through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France over a 7 week period late May - mid July 2023
I am back in the UK now, but please do add your comments and I'll get back to you.
Choice of background music? I use the library provided by my editing software Cyberlink PowerDirector which is meant to copyright approved, but it is being challenged by the copyright owner, so my choice of music, which was always a bit limited is even more so now. Ho hum!
Hoping you can "Like" the video, as this does help the channel.
All my best wishes, thanks again for watching

Fantastic filming. Brilliant!
Many thanks George!

Another enjoyable video Nick, thanks for sharing. I wonder if the damage to the dead/dying trees are a result of an insect infestation? A lot of the native trees here in the USA have been decimated by invasive insects and it’s so sad to see what were once giants of the forest as skeletal remains. I agree with comments from others posted here that Germany is a very picturesque part of Europe (there are exceptions of course everywhere). Looking forward to seeing next week’s video. Cheers, Jim
Many thanks Jim, yes, insects could be the cause, whatever it was, such a shame to see. And yes, there are some lovely places in Germany and some very industrialised, just try and avoid those!
Nick
Germany always looks so pretty and well kept. Great video as always!
Many thanks, yep, some really pretty towns ... as well.as some not quite so attractive 😉

About the dead trees..
Spruce is not a native tree in the area and was planted for mining use many years ago..because they grow quite fast.. normally there should be beech and hardwood trees, birch trees and so on
the trees die because of the weather situation / the climate and the trees, which do not naturally belong there, cannot keep up and die and then there is a small aggressive beetle that helps a lot on the way..
at the roots/ Ground of the trees there is nice and green... if you look closely.
Thanks very much for sharing the information!!! I did wonder.
Nick
Drone footage adds a lot to videos and was a welcome addition 👍There cannot be too many videos left from this trip and hopefully you have other stuff to share🤞Another enjoyable episode.
Many thanks, not many now as you say, not sure what's next... yet
Nick
Agree with the drone footage, my mileage is slightly less than yours, got my X back in May 23 and todate done just under 2k miles
Hope it's treating you well. Thanks for the comment and info!

I’ve had a few bike trips either to or passing through Germany, and was surprised what a nice country it is overall.
Thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts. I sometimes think there is a tendency to blast through countries to reach a specific destination and miss out on the sheer joy of experiencing a foreign land.
Nick
Sawadee from Thailand... thanks for sharing your trip.. cheers mate
Many thanks!

Looking forward to the bike review. I did 13,000 miles on my 2019 CBX last year and it was faultless. Such a seriously underrated touring bike.
The money you save on fuel alone, against a litre plus adventure bike, pays for many hotel rooms 😁✌🏻
Great info Warren, yep, a no problem, frugal bike. Enjoy your trip this year!

Another pleasant day's riding Nick, thanx. I think that your tour around the Balkans and this trip have shown the ability of the CB500X, probably the other 500s in the Honda range. I'm rather hoping that the CB500X will be discounted as they've rolled out the NX500 for this year.
Many thanks, and I think in the UK it is being replaced by the NX, which probably uses a majority of the same components with a bit of a face lift. I've not ridden one so can't comment, if it's the same or better than the CB500x I think it will be a great bike too
Nick
@@bikingtravels I've seen a few reviews and it's the same engine but as you say a facelift. Loox less pointy in style too.
Fantastic drone footage at the start -- thanks Nick.
Many thanks, I must admit I found using the drone troublesome, turn it a little and it seemed to disappear resulting in a bit of a panic. But glad to hear you enjoyed it

I have recently discovered your videos. They have been so enjoyable to watch. My only criticism is the audio levels when you are speaking into the helmet microphone. I have to turn the TV volume way up just to understand you. Inevitably, my wife yells at me to turn it down. Now, each time I sit down to watch UA-cam, she asks me if I'm going to watch "that whispering guy" again.
SORRY MICHAEL, or more appropriately, sorry Micbael. Yes, I afraid I struggled with sound throughout the trip. Before I set off I thought I'd got ot just right. Ho hum, oh and yes, I tend to mumble. Hope your wife can tolerate the volume setting! Thanks for the comment, observation and suffering the consequences!

Nick, I think you may have skirted / traversed the Harz Mountain region of Germany. The dying trees are caused by the bark beetle. They've managed to proliferate due to warmer-than-usual winters / climate change, apparently (although I have also read that it's a natural dying back of trees that have simply become too old. Not sure about that!) I was born in Herzberg am Harz and still have family there, but grew up in Wales (Gower). I went back in 2018 and there wasn't any sign of the trees succumbing the way that they are now. It's sad to see.
Ps. it's motorcycle heaven throughout the entire Harz Mountain National Park -- check out various UA-cam videos. Lots of British bikers make a pilgrimage there every year 🙂
* Just noticed from your map at the end that you did in fact ride straight through the Harz, including the town where I was born :-)
Many thanks for the comment and info, yes sad to see. Harz mountains... yet one more place for me to revisit!
Nick
so many dead trees good if you need fire wood. 😱
😉
beautiful Norway, dot blame you, i was going in the Campervan but after ridding my bike I am going to pick up a 500x and go around EU to 88mpg bike it is haha I've subscribed now so if I do happen to bump into you coffee or a beer will be offered
